Fantasy Spin: Brian Robinson Jr. will receive most of the snaps at running back against the Arizona Cardinals and can be at least a flex option in fantasy leagues.

Washington Commanders running back Austin Ekeler (concussion) was ruled out for this weekend's matchup against the Arizona Cardinals according to JP Finlay of 1067 The Fan. Ekeler suffered a concussion in their Week 3 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. The 29-year-old will now prepare to return to action in Week 5 when the Commanders host the Cleveland Browns. Before the injury on Monday, Ekeler scored his first touchdown of the campaign and tallied 35 yards on the ground. Fantasy managers should expect Brian Robinson Jr. to see an increased role this weekend and should be viewed as a high-end RB2 as he should have a three-down role.

Washington Commanders RB Austin Ekeler (concussion) will not be able to play in the Week 4 game, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Fantasy Spin: Brian Robinson Jr. will see most of the snaps at running back with Eleker unavailable and can be at least a flex option in fantasy leagues.

Sep 24 5:30pm CT

Washington Commanders running back Austin Ekeler (concussion) is in the concussion protocol. Ekeler is also being treated for a laceration on his ear. Ekeler was having a productive night before his injury. He recorded three carries for 35 yards and a touchdown, and two receptions for 22 yards. Ekeler also returned a kick 62 yards to set up the Commanders in excellent field position which ultimately led to a touchdown. The news is a bummer for fantasy managers who were getting surprisingly good production out of Ekeler in all three games this season. He may not be the same player that he was with the Chargers, but he has had flex value. If Ekeler cannot play in Week 4, then Brian Robinson Jr. figures to see a boost in an already solid workload. The only other running back on the Commanders' active roster is Jeremy McNichols so it remains to be seen if they will bring anyone else in.

Washington Commanders RB Austin Ekeler (concussion) is in the concussion protocol, head coach Dan Quinn told reporters Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Fantasy Spin: If Ekeler has to miss time, Brian Robinson Jr. should get a nice bump in usage, making him a fringe RB1 against a vulnerable Arizona Cardinals defense.

From TheHuddle

Sep 23 11:23pm CT

Washington Commanders RB Austin Ekeler (concussion) had three runs for 35 yards and a touchdown in Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals, while adding two catches for 22 yards before checking out with a concussion.

Fantasy Spin: Ekeler's status for Week 4 is uncertain at this time. When healthy, he is likely to get about 8-10 total touches per game as long as Brian Robinson Jr. remains healthy. It's probably a good idea to avoid Ekeler in all fantasy leagues until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game without any setbacks.

From TheHuddle

Sep 23 9:40pm CT

Washington Commanders running back Austin Ekeler (concussion) won't return to Monday's meeting with the Cincinnati Bengals. The veteran had only three touches. However, he ran for 35 yards and scored a touchdown off a 24-yard carry in the second quarter, adding two catches for 22 yards. Ekeler hasn't been the reliable fantasy option he was during his time with the Los Angeles Chargers. But after finding the end zone on Monday night, fantasy managers will monitor his health more closely heading into the Commanders' Week 4 game versus the Arizona Cardinals. With Ekeler out of the equation, Jeremy McNichols should get the scraps left over by Brian Robinson Jr. for the remainder of Week 3.

Updating a previous report, Washington Commanders RB Austin Ekeler (concussion) was downgraded to out during the Week 3 game on Monday, Sept. 23, due to a concussion.

From TheHuddle

Sep 23 9:10pm CT

Washington Commanders running back Austin Ekeler (head) is uncertain to return to Monday's Week 3 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. The veteran back is currently being elevated for a concussion after hitting his head during the third quarter of Monday's game. It wouldn't be shocking to see the Commanders play it safe and hold out Ekeler for the rest of the game. Before exiting, Ekeler rushed three times for 35 yards with a touchdown on the ground. He also hauled in both his targets for 22 yards in the receiving game. His absence should mean more playing time for fellow back Brian Robinson Jr. during the second half of this game.

Washington Commanders RB Austin Ekeler (concussion) is being evaluated for a concussion during the Week 3 game on Monday, Sept. 23, and is questionable to return.

From TheHuddle

Sep 20 8:20pm CT

Washington Commanders running back Austin Ekeler has typically been deployed as a pass-catcher through his first two weeks in Washington. He should be viewed as an RB3/flex option with a higher potential in PPR formats this weekend as he will face the Cincinnati Bengals. Last weekend, Ekeler saw eight attempts on the ground but ran for just 38 yards. However, the former Charger caught all three targets for 47 yards in the passing game. In the opening week, Ekeler ran the ball twice but reeled in all four of his targets for a combined 62 yards. Even though the 29-year-old has only found fantasy value in the passing game this season, he is being targeted on 20.6% of his routes, which is a promising sign. However, Ekeler is best left for deeper PPR formats as a flex option due to the low projected rushing volume.

Sep 15 9:53pm CT

Washington Commanders RB Austin Ekeler rushed eight times for 38 yards in Week 2 against the New York Giants, while adding three catches for 47 yards on his three targets. He also had one kickoff return for 35 yards.

Fantasy Spin: Ekeler has gone from RB1 in fantasy leagues for years with the Chargers, to a RB3 or flex option in leagues of 12 or more teams. As long as Brian Robinson Jr. remains healthy, Ekeler's fantasy ceiling is rather limited.

From TheHuddle

Sep 15 4:20pm CT

Washington Commanders running back Austin Ekeler was quiet as a rusher Sunday afternoon but made his impact through the air. Ekeler caught all three of his targets for 47 yards. On the ground, he saw just eight attempts for 38 yards. The veteran running back was primarily deployed as a pass catcher in the season opener, and Week 2 was quite similar. Last week, he registered 52 receiving yards (which led the team) on four receptions. While Brian Robinson Jr. will continue to see the lion's share of rushing attempts, Ekeler will still hold fantasy value, especially in PPR formats as he is becoming a safety valve for rookie QB Jayden Daniels. Fantasy managers should continue to view Ekeler as an upside flex in PPR leagues, but in standard leagues where receptions are not scored, it is better to find production elsewhere.

Sep 13 7:20am CT

Washington Commanders running back Austin Ekeler led the team in receiving yards (52) in the season opener but had a limited role in the offense. In his Washington debut, Ekeler was exclusively deployed as a pass-catching running back as he saw just two rushing attempts, compared to Brian Robinson Jr.'s 12 attempts. However, through the air, Ekeler made the most of his limited touches as he caught all four of his targets. In addition, he ran 19 total routes and posted an average of 2.74 yards per route run, which was one of the best marks of the weekend. While the 29-year-old will typically serve as the No.2 option in a committee, his production on such limited touches is still worth noting as he still possesses some quality upside. For now, Ekeler remains a solid flex play in deeper PPR leagues but holds much less value in standard formats.

Dynasty | Commanders running back Austin Ekeler had ten rushing yards, four catches, and 52 receiving yards in Washington's season-opening loss to Tampa Bay. Dynasty Analysis: The concerning part here is the fact Ekeler had just six touches on the day and many of them came with the game far out of reach. Brian Robinson had 15 touches and seemed like the clear RB1 on this team today. If that continues, it's going to be very difficult for the former fantasy MVP to return to form or even provide any kind of value this season. At this point, Ekeler is looking the part of a roster clogger but we need to see this pattern to continue before putting that in stone.

Sep 8 8:53pm CT

Washington Commanders RB Austin Ekeler rushed twice for 10 yards and caught four passes for a team-high 52 yards in a 37-20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1.

From TheHuddle

Sep 8 7:30pm CT

Washington Commanders running back Austin Ekeler did not see a heavy workload on the ground but caught a team-high four receptions in the season opener. Ekeler shared the spotlight with Brian Robinson Jr. throughout the preseason but saw only two carries Sunday afternoon in Tampa Bay. However, he made up for that disappointing workload through the air as he caught all four of his targets for 52 yards. Ekeler made a nice 22-yard catch-and-run play in the second quarter, which helped set the Commanders up for their first touchdown. Fantasy managers should lower expectations for Ekeler heading into Week 2 in standard scoring but give him a slight uptick in PPR as he is clearly building a connection with his rookie QB making him a low-end flex play for the time being.

From RotoBaller

Sep 5 5:40pm CT

Washington Commanders running back Austin Ekeler is shaping up to be an RB3 or flex option in the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Ekeler had a difficult 2023 season as he battled a high ankle sprain early on, which clearly limited him throughout the campaign. However, in the offseason, he decided to take his talents to the DMV in the hope of reclaiming fantasy stardom. Fantasy managers should expect the 29-year-old to see the majority of the passing downs in a running back committee with Alabama product Brian Robinson Jr. During the preseason, Ekeler typically replaced Robinson on third downs but did see a few red zone attempts, which is something to monitor going forward as Ekeler has always shown a nose for the end zone throughout his career. For now, fantasy managers should treat Ekeler as an RB3 with the upside to see a heavy dose of targets his way.
