Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) is considered a game-time decision for Week 4's contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to a source. He will test out the injury during pregame warmups to determine if he will be able to play.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon had been listed as questionable on the injury report after logging just one limited practice session during the week. RB Dameon Pierce (hamstring) has already been ruled out, so if Mixon is also held out of action today, RB Cam Akers would be in line for a heavy workload versus the Jaguars. In this scenario, Akers would be a decent flex option with upside in most fantasy formats. Keep checking back for updates on Mixon's status.

Sep 29 7:20am CT

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (ankle) "has worked hard to be back and even though it seems to be an uphill climb to play, he hasn't given up trying," according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Mixon will test his injury pregame to see whether he can suit up on Sunday afternoon. The veteran hasn't played since Week 2 when he was on the receiving end of a hip-drop tackle. He was able to finish the game but then was sidelined for Week 3. Through two games, he has 228 scrimmage yards and one touchdown. Houston would benefit from having him available on Sunday against the Jaguars, but they also won't rush him back before he's ready. If Mixon can't play this week, Cam Akers would lead the Texans' backfield for the second consecutive game, ranking as a fantasy RB3.

Sep 27 3:40pm CT

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game with an ankle injury. Mixon suffered the injury in Week 2 against the Chicago Bears and was held out of action last weekend. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to any updates regarding the 28-year-old's status over the weekend. The Texans will already enter this game shorthanded with wideout Tank Dell (chest) and No.2 running back Dameon Pierce (hamstring) already ruled out. If Mixon misses his second-straight game, fantasy managers should expect Cam Akers to lead the backfield again in a favorable matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, who have allowed the 29th most points to running backs this season.

Sep 27 3:23pm CT

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) was limited at practice on Friday, Sept. 27, after not taking part the two days prior and is listed as questionable for Week 4.

Fantasy Spin: The lack of a limited practice this week suggests Mixon is on the wrong side of questionable, but clearly he's making progress. With Dameon Pierce (hamstring) ruled out, Cam Akers would be in line for a huge workload if Mixon sits. Consider him a flex option with upside in that scenario.

From TheHuddle

Sep 27 3:13pm CT

Houston Texans WR Tank Dell (chest), RB Dameon Pierce (hamstring) and S Jimmie Ward (groin) did not practice on Friday, Sept. 27, and have been ruled out for Week 4. Also, DL Folorunso Fatukasi (shoulder) and RB Joe Mixon (ankle) were limited and are questionable, and WR Nico Collins (hamstring), OG Kenyon Green (illness), OL Jarrett Patterson (calf) and TE Dalton Schultz (ankle) practiced in full and were removed from the injury report.

Sep 27 11:50am CT

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (ankle) was seen at Friday's practice, according to DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN. Mixon did not practice during the first two sessions earlier this week, so this could open the door for the 28-year-old to return to action this weekend. Mixon sat out last Sunday's game due to an ankle injury. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to Friday's injury report, as it should provide clarity on Mixon's status heading into the weekend. If he were to miss his second straight game, fantasy managers should expect Cam Akers to lead the backfield once again against the Jacksonville Jaguars, as No.2 running back Dameon Pierce (hamstring) has not yet practiced this week.

Sep 27 11:43am CT

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) was spotted at practice on Friday, Sept. 27.

Fantasy Spin: This one is a bit of a surprise, as Mixon was not expected to practice this week. While we will not know about Friday's practice designation or Sunday's game status for another couple of hours, it leaves the possibility open for Mixon to play in Week 4 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. With that said, Mixon's return to practice figures to be more of a good sign for his Week 5 availability than Week 4. If Mixon does not play as expected this week, Cam Akers appears to be in line to make another start.

From TheHuddle

Sep 26 4:43pm CT

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 26.

Fantasy Spin: It is looking like Mixon will not be ready to play in Week 4, but fantasy players will need to look for his official status in the next day or two. Cam Akers may receive another start if Mixon and Dameon Pierce are unavailable and could be a flex option in some leagues.

From TheHuddle

Sep 25 5:43pm CT

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 25.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon was not able to play last week because of the injury, so fantasy players will need to check later in the week to see if he has a chance to play in Week 4. He is the main back for the Texans when healthy, but fantasy players will need another option ready in case he is ruled out.

From TheHuddle

Sep 25 12:10pm CT

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (ankle) is still regarded as week-to-week due to an ankle injury that kept him out of the Week 3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, according to sources. It's no lock that Mixon is able to return to action in Week 4 versus the division-rival Jacksonville Jaguars. We'll have a better idea of Mixon's status for this Sunday's game later in the week. Dameon Pierce (hamstring) hasn't played the last two weeks, but he's trending in the right direction and is expected to return in Week 4. So if Mixon misses a second straight game, both Pierce and Cam Akers figure to split Houston's backfield against the 0-3 Jaguars. Fantasy managers that used Mixon in their starting lineups the first two weeks of the season need to plan as though he'll miss another game this weekend. This is your cue to check the waiver wire and add Pierce if you're in dire straights at the RB position.

From RotoBaller

Sep 25 11:53am CT

Houston Texans RB Dameon Pierce (hamstring) is expected to return this week, per sources on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Also, RB Joe Mixon (ankle) is still considered week-to-week, per sources.

Fantasy Spin: If Mixon sits out again, Cam Akers figures to be involved no matter what, but it's possible there will be close to a 50/50 split with if Pierce does indeed return. That would be a situation to avoid if possible, but Akers is probably the better play of the two.

Sep 22 10:33am CT

The Houston Texans have declared RB Dameon Pierce, LB Jamal Hill, C Jarrett Patterson, RB Joe Mixon, WR John Metchie, CB Myles Bryant and DE Rashad Weaver inactive for Week 3.

From TheHuddle

Sep 21 1:40pm CT

According to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero, Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (ankle) won't play in Sunday's game against the Vikings. The 28-year-old had a massive Week 1 performance versus the Colts. Unfortunately, he injured his ankle in Sunday night's clash with the Chicago Bears. The former Bengal was listed as doubtful, so the latest update won't surprise fantasy managers. However, with NFL Media's Ian Rapoport also reporting Mixon is "week-to-week," nobody can say for sure if he'll return when the Texans play the Jags in Week 4. For those fortunate to have claimed Cam Akers off the waiver wire, he's a must-start in any fantasy format. While there's a chance Dare Ogunbowale gets Akers' leftovers out of the backfield, he doesn't offer the same upside for fantasy managers.

From RotoBaller

Sep 21 1:33pm CT

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) was downgraded from doubtful to out for Week 3 on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Fantasy Spin: With Dameon Pierce (hamstring) also ruled out, that leaves Cam Akers as the lead back for Week 3. We'll tentatively call him an RB2, but there's certainly RB1 upside there.

From TheHuddle

Sep 21 10:30am CT

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (ankle) is considered "week-to-week." Dameon Pierce (hamstring) has already been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game versus the Minnesota Vikings. While Mixon is still officially classified as doubtful, the Texans already expect he won't be out there while hoping to get him back for the Week 4 matchup against the Jags, depending on how he responds to treatment. The former Bengal had a monster Week 1 outing against the Colts, so it's a tough blow for fantasy managers. With that said, Cam Akers has already seen a surge in interest from those looking for a streaming option this week. However, he's likely already been scooped off the waiver wire in most leagues. Dare Ogunbowale could see a few additional touches in Week 3. Unfortunately, he doesn't offer the same upside as Akers.

From RotoBaller

Sep 20 3:13pm CT

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) did not participate in practice Friday, Sept. 20, and is listed as doubtful for Week 3.

Fantasy Spin: Fantasy players can check the inactive list for his official status but should not count on him play this week. Cam Akers is in line to be the starting running back for the Texans and can be at least a flex option in fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Sep 20 2:53pm CT

Houston Texans RB Dameon Pierce (hamstring) did not practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 3 versus the Minnesota Vikings. RB Joe Mixon (ankle) also did not practice all week and is listed as doubtful. OL Jarrett Patterson (calf) did not practice on Friday, Sept. 20, and is listed as questionable. C Juice Scruggs (groin) and S M.J. Stewart (knee) were limited in practice on Friday and are also listed as questionable. LB Azeez Al-Shaair (shin), CB Kris Boyd (hip), WR Nico Collins (hip, foot), DT Folorunso Fatukasi (shoulder), CB Kamari Lassiter (elbow) and TE Dalton Schultz (ankle) practiced in full on Friday and no longer appear on the injury report.

From TheHuddle

Sep 19 12:20pm CT

Houston Texans running backs Joe Mixon (ankle) and Dameon Pierce (hamstring) are not practicing on Thursday. With both Mixon and Pierce sidelined so far this week, Cam Akers has operated as the team's starting tailback as preparations continue for a Week 3 showdown against the 2-0 Minnesota Vikings. The Texans consider Mixon day-to-day as of now, and Pierce is dealing with a mild hamstring injury, although it was enough to keep him sidelined for the Week 2 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday night. As things stand now, Houston's backfield situation is in flux heading into this Sunday's contest. If both Mixon and Pierce are unavailable, Akers would become at least a flex play in fantasy lineups, with Dare Ogunbowale and British Brooks backing him up. With Pierce inactive last Sunday, Akers made his Texans debut and had seven carries for 32 yards while catching one pass for three yards.

From RotoBaller

Sep 19 12:13pm CT

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) is not practicing Thursday, Sept. 19.

Fantasy Spin: Managers will want to find a potential pivot option for Mixon given the way he's trending. With Dameon Pierce (hamstring) also out of practice, Cam Akers appears to be the lead back and has fringe RB2 value if that's the case this week.
