I've bought 6 orphan teams over the past two years and was able to get two of them into the money in my second year and another into the money (4th place) the year I took it over. It definitely requires being able to trade for multiple young players who are post-hype but have talent and/or prospects who are very close to the bigs — and being extra aggressive and active on the wire. The wire can sometimes net you better long-term prospects than what you'll find in the draft. You do have to be willing to churn a lot of players and take your lumps for a year or two.

Well I bid on 5 teams when they came out—bought one outright wanted to do a rebuild with Roki and roll the dice—have so far been outbid once so that leaves 3-went and checked out the other teams in the leagues rosters—was shocked at the division of strength not just on proven talent but even young prospects —so do yourself a favor before you bid on an orphan check the other teams in the league—I’m actually hoping to be outbid in 2/3

I am looking to take over 1 and/or waiting to draft a fresh team.  My opinion...Some leagues are way too top heavy! Some naive owners make trades that make it impossible for them to ever catch the teams ahead of them.  Speculative young returns or high draft picks for older established studs.  Trading older players for multiple young ones that are highly likely to succeed is plausible, but you have to wait 2-3 years to keep building and hope you hit on enough to then realistically compete.  I have a points team in the third year of a rebuild and it is ready to compete for top four.   But, I was just trying to have a fun challenge to rebuild a team knowing it won't be good for at least a year or two.    

I fully expect some leagues to get shut down when too many people sell because of the top-heavy issue.  I don't know how RTS can get around it...eventually it will need to happen or they lose money keeping a league alive!  That is why I like finding a good league and sticking with it.  I have some great leagues I'm in where it is competitive and many teams have a realistic chance one year to the next.  

...meanwhile it is possible the rebuilding teams cannot ever catch the ones at the top with absurd rosters.  Thus, shutting those down may be inevitable one day.

Anyone going to do a new league this year was looking over the orphan teams and it’s almost a crime owners in some of those leagues with loaded squads
