Jesus Luzardo pitched eight scoreless innings and Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered as the host Miami Marlins defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 1-0 on Wednesday night in the rubber match of a three-game set.

The Marlins, who at 17-34 have more losses than any other team in the National League, have won three straight series -- against the Detroit Tigers, New York Mets and Brewers.

Tanner Scott worked around a two-out single in the ninth to earn his sixth save of the season.

Luzardo (2-3) retired 16 batters in a row at one point, a streak that started in the third. His eight innings were a career high, and he allowed three hits -- all singles -- while striking out four. Luzardo didn't issue a walk.

Milwaukee got a stellar start from Freddy Peralta (3-3). He went seven innings, allowing just one run on four hits while walking one and fanning seven.

But Peralta made one big mistake, and it came early, as Chisholm led off the bottom of the first with his home run. He connected on a 3-1 fastball, sending it 374 feet to right.

The Brewers threatened in the second inning thanks to singles by Willy Adames and Gary Sanchez. But with one out, Luzardo struck out Jackson Chourio, then picked off Adames as he was headed for third.

Adames was originally ruled safe, but the call was overturned upon review.

In the fifth, Miami's Tim Anderson was picked off at second, a play that stung even more when Nick Fortes followed with a single that likely would have plated Anderson.

Milwaukee nearly broke through in the eighth after Marlins second baseman Otto Lopez couldn't grip the ball while trying to complete a double play. That allowed Chourio to reach first with two outs, but even after stealing second, he never would cross the plate, as Owen Miller flied out to end the frame.
