Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Anthony Santander (shoulder) is "very likely" to continue his minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo through the weekend, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet reports. Santander, who has been out since late May with an injured left shoulder, played the outfield with Buffalo for the first time on Wednesday. However, there were no balls hit to him in his seven innings of work in the grass. With Buffalo's season ending on Sunday, Santander should finally rejoin the Blue Jays next week. The ex-Baltimore Oriole, 30, has gone through a nightmarish first season with Toronto after joining the team in free agency. Before suffering the injury, Santander slumped to a .179/.273/.304 line with six homers, 18 RBI, and 14 runs scored over 50 games and 209 plate appearances.

Boston Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu (calf) is finally nearing a return from the 10-day injured list. Abreu will work out in Boston on Friday, and if that goes well, he could join the team in Tampa Bay on Saturday or Sunday, manager Alex Cora told reporters. Abreu has been on the shelf since Aug. 18 with a strained right calf. The hope was that Abreu would miss a minimal amount of time, but his recovery hasn't gone as quickly as expected. He'll end up sitting out a little over a month if the Red Sox activate him this weekend. The 26-year-old has slashed a strong .253/.325/.486 with 22 homers, 69 RBI, 52 runs scored, and six stolen bases over 108 games and 395 plate appearances this season.

The Detroit Tigers have activated right-handed reliever Paul Sewald (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list and optioned righty Jose Urquidy to Triple-A Toledo. Sewald is ready to return after missing upward of two months with a shoulder strain. He spent the first few months of the season with the division-rival Cleveland Guardians, who traded him to the Tigers at the July 31 deadline. The 35-year-old is now set for his Detroit debut after recording a 4.70 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP, 18:4 K:BB, four holds, and two saves in 15 1/3 innings with Cleveland. Sewald hasn't pitched in the majors since July 11.

The Kansas City Royals announced that they have placed outfielder Kyle Isbel (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring and recalled outfielder John Rave from Triple-A Omaha. After suffering the injury and leaving early in a 7-5 win over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, Isbel's season will come to an end. The 28-year-old defensive wiz hit .255/.301/.353 with four homers, 33 RBI, 42 runs, and four stolen bases across 135 games and 409 plate appearances this season. Mike Yastrzemski will move from left field to center to take Isbel's place on Thursday against the Mariners, while Adam Frazier will play left.

The New York Mets have placed left-hander Sean Manaea on the paternity list. Manaea will miss anywhere from one to three days. The 33-year-old has mostly worked out of the Mets' rotation this season, but after a seven-start stretch in which he posted a 7.71 ERA, they moved him to the bullpen earlier this week. Manaea was successful following starter Clay Holmes in a win over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday, as he threw five innings of one-run, four-hit ball with four strikeouts against one walk. He's expected to relieve Holmes again on Sunday against the Washington Nationals.

Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers is not in the lineup against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday. Willie MacIver will take over behind the plate and hit ninth in a meeting with right-hander Brayan Bello. Langeliers is getting a breather after starting eight straight games. The 27-year-old slugger has hit a solid .280/.379/.420 in 12 contests in September, though he has only gone deep once. He has belted 30 homers this season and slashed .263/.316/.524 with 68 RBI, 69 runs scored, and seven stolen bases in 494 plate appearances. Langeliers, Seattle's Cal Raleigh, and Colorado's Hunter Goodman are the only primary catchers who have reached the 30-HR mark in 2025.

Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero (back) is out of the lineup against the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday. Tristan Gray will fill in at the hot corner and hit sixth versus right-hander Chris Bassitt. Caminero is considered day-to-day after exiting the Rays' win over the Jays on Wednesday with mid-back tightness. He could return when Tampa Bay opens a series against the Boston Red Sox on Friday. With 44 home runs in 2025, Caminero is just two away from tying Carlos Pena's franchise record of 46. Along with his gaudy HR total, the 22-year-old has slashed .259/.302/.537 with 108 RBI, 89 runs scored, and seven stolen bases in 620 plate appearances.

Houston Astros outfielder Chas McCormick (side) has been unable to play in Triple-A for the last week due to a side issue, according to manager Joe Espada. McCormick has played 66 games in the majors this year and 11 games in the minors. He came off the injured list after an oblique injury in mid-July but was optioned to Triple-A in early September. He has played sparingly since losing his starting role to Jake Meyers in spring training. McCormick hit only .210 with one homer and two stolen bases in his limited action this year and seems to have faded from the team's plans in the last two seasons after a big year in 2023 when he hit .273 with 22 homers and 19 stolen bases. Even if he does recover in time, his role on the team is uncertain the rest of this season, leaving him well off the fantasy radar.

Atlanta Braves outfielder Jake Fraley (oblique) will not return this season after the team moved him to the 60-day injured list on Wednesday. Fraley was designated for assignment by the Reds in mid-August and claimed by the Braves. He went 7-for-23 (.304) in nine games with the Braves before landing on the injured list with a right oblique strain on Sunday. He'll miss the rest of the season, so the Braves chose to open up a spot on their 40-man roster by moving him to the 60-day injured list. He is arbitration-eligible this offseason, so the Braves will decide whether to tender him an offer or allow him to become a free agent. As a left-handed hitter, he could still offer enough upside to draw attention as a veteran platoon option for the Braves or if he hits the open market this offseason.

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Kyle Finnegan (adductor) will make a rehab appearance on Thursday for the Toledo Mud Hens, as he looks to return to the Tigers' bullpen in time for the last few series of the regular season. After joining the Tigers at the trade deadline, the 34-year-old righty made 12 scoreless appearances with four saves and 19 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings. He could be an impact arm for Detroit out of the bullpen if he can return from the right adductor strain that has sidelined him since August 31. He has only missed a few weeks, so he shouldn't need many rehab appearances and could even return this weekend if all goes well. If Finnegan is available in your league and you need saves or relief innings, he's an excellent addition.
From RotoBaller
Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Tyler Anderson (oblique) may not be able to return this season since he hasn't been able to make much progress since ramping up his throwing program. He originally injured his oblique while returning home from being on paternity leave. He pitched on August 29, but the next day, he was placed on the IL. The veteran lefty went just 2-8 in 26 games with a 4.56 ERA, 5.61 FIP, and 104 strikeouts in 136 1/3 innings. Anderson will be a free agent after the season and has proven he can be an innings-eating option towards the back of the rotation. He has spent the last three years with the Angels after starting his career with the Dodgers and Rockies. He can be safely dropped in all formats since there are other options that make more sense, especially with Anderson's return uncertain.
From RotoBaller
Minnesota Twins outfielder Matt Wallner (back) left Wednesday night's game against the Yankees in the fifth inning after going 0-for-1 with a walk. Wallner is considered day-to-day, but since the Twins have a day off Thursday, he could return to action Friday without missing a start. The 27-year-old lefty is hitting only .202 on the season, but does have a new career-high 22 homers in his 104 games. He has a .262 ISO and .334 wOBA and is a solid source of lefty power in the Minnesota outfield despite his low average. He has been part of a crowded rotation in the outfield, so he could get fewer games over the last couple of series if his back continues to be an issue.

Brewers' CF Blake Perkins had five RBIs going 2-for-4 in a 9-2 win over the Angels on Wednesday, Sep. 17.
Dodgers' SP Blake Snell recorded 12 strikeouts in 7 innings collecting the win in a 5-0 win over the Phillies on Wednesday, Sep. 17.
Cincinnati Reds' LF Spencer Steer had five RBIs going 3-for-4 with a home run in a 6-2 win over St. Louis on Wednesday, Sep. 17.
San Francisco Giants right-hander Justin Verlander plans to pitch in 2026, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. Although Verlander will turn 43 in February, the future Hall of Famer and three-time Cy Young winner remains an effective starter. He turned in seven scoreless innings of three-hit ball with three strikeouts and two walks in a win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday, continuing a spectacular start to September. Verlander has taken the ball three times this month and allowed a mere one earned run on 10 hits and six walks (13 strikeouts) over 20 innings. Despite an unsightly 3-10 record, Verlander has registered a respectable 3.75 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP, 127 strikeouts, and 49 walks in 141 2/3 frames this season. The nine-time All-Star has pitched for four different teams since he began his decorated career in 2005, and as a soon-to-be free agent, he could add to that total over the winter. In the meantime, Verlander is scheduled to make his next start against the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday.

Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson homered for the fifth time in six games to help the team to a 9-4 win over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. Along with his solo shot off right-hander Sauryn Lao, Olson added two singles to finish 3-for-5 with an additional run scored. Olson has gone an eye-popping 23-for-60 (.383) with 12 extra-base hits (seven HRs, three doubles, two triples), 15 RBI, and 15 runs scored in 16 games this month. Over 153 games and 682 plate appearances this season, the 31-year-old has slashed .281/.372/.497 with 28 homers, 92 RBI, and 92 runs. With the roll he's on, Olson has a strong chance to swat 30-plus HRs for the fifth time in his career and an outside chance to reach 100 RBI for the fourth time

Los Angeles Angels first baseman Nolan Schanuel (wrist) began a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday, the team announced. Schanuel has been on the 10-day injured list with a left-wrist contusion since Aug. 24, but barring setbacks, he should return before the Angels' season wraps up. The 23-year-old has hit a modest .266/.355/.383 with 10 homers, 49 RBI, 61 runs scored, and five stolen bases over 535 plate appearances in his second full season in the majors. The Angels have started five different players at first base in Schanuel's absence.

Kansas City Royals right-hander Ryan Bergert (forearm) will head to the 15-day injured list with forearm tightness, manager Matt Quatraro announced. Bergert's season will come to an end after he began feeling discomfort during a bullpen session on Wednesday. He had been in line to start Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays, but righty Michael Lorenzen will get the ball instead. Acquired from the San Diego Padres in July, the 25-year-old Bergert totaled 19 appearances (15 starts) and went 2-2 with a 3.66 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP, and 73:35 K:BB over 76 1/3 innings in his first major league season. Without Bergert, the Royals still have five healthy starters in Lorenzen, Michael Wacha, Cole Ragans, Noah Cameron, and Stephen Kolek.

Chicago Cubs closer Daniel Palencia (shoulder) is expected to begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa on Saturday. The right-hander has been on the 15-day injured list with a shoulder strain since Sept. 8, leaving Andrew Kittredge as the Cubs' primary choice for saves over the past week-plus. Palencia was tattooed for five earned runs on four hits (including two homers) in his most recent appearance on Sept. 7, when he failed to record an out in a loss to the Washington Nationals. However, the 25-year-old has still logged an impressive 3.00 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP, 59:16 K:BB, and 22 saves in 51 innings. There's no word on how many rehab appearances he'll need before the playoff-bound Cubs activate him.
