Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez continued his power run in Tuesday's 7-5 win over the Yankees. The 33-year-old went 1-for-4 with a grand slam and a strikeout. Suarez hit an eighth-inning Mark Leiter Jr. off-speed pitch just over the left-field wall to put the Diamondbacks up for good. He has picked up right where he left off in 2024 and is now slashing .278/.381/1.111 with five home runs and 11 RBI in his first 21 plate appearances. While his current HR pace is not sustainable, Suarez has offered high-end power for most of his career. The issue at times has been very low batting averages, but he could continue to be a fantasy surprise if he bats close to the .256 he compiled last season or better.

Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher A.J. Puk converted the team's first save opportunity of the season in Tuesday's 7-5 win over the Yankees. Puk came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by three. He got the first two outs on strikeouts, allowed a solo home run, and got the final out on a line-out. The 29-year-old came into the season jockeying for save opportunities with Justin Martinez, who struck out the side in the eighth inning of the game. Both players offer plenty of strikeout upside, although Martinez did spend some time last season as the team's closer and recently signed a five-year, $18 million extension. The Diamondbacks should see plenty of save opportunities this season, so until one player grasps the closer's role, both are worth rostering in at least all roto leagues at this time.
From RotoBaller
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King had an excellent rebound start in Tuesday's 7-0 win over the Guardians. King pitched five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and a walk with 11 strikeouts. He also hit a batter. The 29-year-old's performance was a relief for both the Padres and fantasy managers, as he lasted just 2 2/3 IP in his first start while allowing three runs and walking four. King emerged as a legitimate higher-end fantasy starter last season and has showcased high strikeout upside throughout his career. He has walked five batters in his first two starts, but that has never been an issue in his game. King will face the Athletics in Sacramento in his next start. He is worth starting in fantasy leagues, even though Sutter Health Park has done a poor job of keeping the ball in the park early on.
From RotoBaller
Miami Marlins relief pitcher Anthony Bender saw the team's first save opportunity of the season and converted it in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Mets. Anthony Veneziano started the top of the ninth inning with a two-run lead, and Bender came in to relieve him with one out and runners on first and second. The 30-year-old shut the door with a fly-out and a ground-out. Given that two of the Mets' first three hitters in the ninth were left-handed, that could explain why the lefty Veneziano started the inning. The Marlins did not come into the season with a declared closer, although Bender and Calvin Faucher seemed to be the likeliest candidates. Bender has been a solid reliever throughout his career, but he owns just 11 career saves in four seasons. He may be worth a speculative fantasy look in deep roto leagues at this time.
From RotoBaller
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich had an overall productive game offensively in Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Royals. Yelich went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, two RBI, and a walk. He also stole his second base of the season. The 33-year-old clubbed an eighth-inning John Schreiber cutter deep over the right-center wall for his first long ball of the season. It was an encouraging game for Yelich, who is slashing just .125/.300/.313 in his first 20 plate appearances of the season. Fantasy managers shouldn't be worried about Yelich's performance this early in the season, as health is his key issue. He has been a solid fantasy contributor when on the field throughout his career. Hopefully, this game can help get him going.
From RotoBaller
Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitching prospect Thomas Harrington had a less-than-ideal MLB debut in Tuesday's 7-0 loss to the Rays. Harrington pitched four innings, allowing six runs on seven hits (including a two-run home run) and four walks with two strikeouts. The 23-year-old is the No. 3 prospect in the Pirates' system and is the No. 78 overall prospect, per MLB Pipeline. He was competing for a rotation spot this spring and compiled a strong 2.61 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and 25.1% strikeout rate across three levels in the minors in 2024. It remains to be seen if Harrington earned another turn in the rotation, as the Pirates have Carmen Mlodzinski on their roster and also have No. 14 overall prospect Bubba Chandler waiting at Triple-A Indianapolis. Even if Harrington does make another start, fantasy managers may want to sit him until they see more promising results.
From RotoBaller
Washington Nationals outfieldprospect Robert Hassell III went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base on Tuesday for Triple-A Rochester. That makes him 5-for-14 (.357) over his firstthree games of 2025. The 23-year-old showed well in spring training with the Nats but was unable to break camp with the big leagueclub. Dylan Crews, who did make the Nationals' Opening Day roster, is 0-for-15 to begin the season with 10 strikeouts, ultimately getting a breather on Tuesday to hopefullyregroup. If he doesn't start to hit and Hassell continues to do so, it will be interesting to see if Washington gives him a shot to make his MLB debut. Hassell is a former eighth-overall draft pick who hit for a high averagebefore joiningthe Nationals' organization in 2022, but has flashed speed regardless of where he has been, swiping 15 bags in 2024 betweenDouble and Triple-A in just 85 games. Were he to get the call, the left-handed hitter could be worthy of a benchstash, but managers may want to hold off on deploying him until he shows he's a capable major leaguer.
From RotoBaller
Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson (side) had another encouraging performance with Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday in a 4-3 loss to the Charlotte Knights. Henderson went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk, and two strikeouts. The 23-year-old has been sidelined with an intercostal strain since late February and started the season on the injured list. However, he is expected to return to the O's on Thursday when first eligible and looked good at the plate in his time with Triple-A, batting .313 with two HR in 16 at-bats. Henderson came into the season as a top fantasy pick, and fantasy managers should treat him as such as soon as he makes his way back to the big leagues. Given his rehab performances, they should feel comfortable slotting him right back into their lineups.
From RotoBaller
Boston Red Sox infield prospect Marcelo Mayer popped his first home run of 2025 for Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday. The 22-year-old went 2-for-4 in the contest with three RBI and a run scored, now 4-for-13 (.308) on the young season. The former first-round draft pick was excellent last year at Double-A in 77 games before a lumbar strain ended his season prematurely in late July, and had hit well this spring while in camp with the Red Sox. MLB's 11th-overall prospectwill likely makehis major league debut later this year, but it may take an injury to get him a call-up, as his main positions of shortstop and third base are currently spoken for at the big league level. With the offensive profile he brings, Fantasy managers in redraft leagues will want to keep an ear out for any rumblings of a promotion in order to stash the left-handed hitter ahead of time.
From RotoBaller
Minnesota Twins pitching prospect Zebby Matthews threw five shutout innings in his 2025 Triple-A debut, allowing just one hit and no walks while striking out four batters on the way to earning the win for St. Paul. Matthews has shown impeccable command duringhis minor league tenure, owning a miniscule 2.7 percent walk rate over 205 1/3 IP. The righty shows strong strikeout potential as well, strikingout batters at a 28.7 percent rate, and has recorded a 3.20 ERA (2.97 FIP) with a 0.95 WHIP. Unfortunately, his nine-game major league debut in 2024 didn't go so swimmingly, registering a 6.69 ERA (5.72 FIP), 1.65 WHIP, and an 18.1 percent K-BB% over 37 2/3 IP. Expect the 6-foot-5 hurler to be back in the big leagues again this season, and despite last year's numbers, he'd be a worthy roster addition for most teams in deeper leagues that are in need of pitching help.
From RotoBaller
Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Hurston Waldrep pitched well in his first start of the Triple-A season, going five innings, allowing one earned run on three hits and one walk whilestriking out seven on the way to earning the win for Gwinnett. The 2023 first-round draft pick made quick work of the minors, eventually getting a call-up to the majors in June of 2024. It was a quick audition, though, as the righty allowed 13 earned runs over his two starts on nine hits and a poor 8:3 BB:K. The 6-foot-2 hurler owns a 3.01 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and a 14.4 percent K-BB% in the minors, and if he performs well to begin the year, expect that the Braves will give him another shot at some point this season. He's likely rostered in dynasty leagues already, but with his arsenal and a first-round pedigree, redraft managers should be on notice again in the event he gets another call-up. With injuries already startingto rear their ugly head as Reynaldo Lopez goes on the IL, the Braves may need his services sooner than expected.
From RotoBaller
Cleveland Guardians shortstop prospect Angel Genao sustained a shoulder injury during springtraining that is expected to keephim out of game action until June. The 20-year-old was in camp with the big league club, going 2-for-6 with a walk in his seven plate appearances, and is expected to head to Double-A Akron when he returns from the minor league IL. Last season between Single and High-A, the Guardians' fourth-ranked prospect amassed a .330-10-71-72-25 line in 110 games, so he's ready to see some stiffer competition. Ranked at No. 60 on MLB.com's Top 100 prospects list, the switch-hitter has an ETA of 2026. With a nice blend of contact skills, power, and speed, the Dominican could be a worthy stash candidate in dynasty leagues if he continues to perform well upon his return.
From RotoBaller
New York Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt (shoulder) is scheduled to return from the injured list to make his 2025 season debut on either Tuesday, April 15, or Wednesday, April 16, against the visiting Kansas City Royals at Yankee Stadium, according to manager Aaron Boone. Schmidt opened the regular season on the IL due to rotator-cuff tendonitis, and he was able to throw 46 pitches during a simulated game on Monday. The 29-year-old will throw again on Saturday as he continues to build up in advance of his regular-season debut. When Schmidt rejoins the Yankees' starting rotation, it will most likely be either youngster Will Warren or veteran Carlos Carrasco who will be booted from the rotation to make room for Schmidt. Before missing three months in 2024 with a lat strain, Schmidt was on the verge of a breakout season, making him worth watching if he's on your league's waiver wire.
From RotoBaller
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Shane Baz was dominant on Tuesday, pitching seven shutout innings while striking out 10 in a 7-0 win over the Pirates. Baz racked up strikeouts against the team that drafted him, throwing his curveball 35 percent of the time with a 50% whiff rate on the pitch. He posted a 3.06 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 69 strikeouts in 79 innings in 2024, but 2025 marks the first year that he will have the opportunity to pitch a full season. A huge breakout could be coming for the former top prospect, and he should be universally rostered in fantasy.
From RotoBaller
Chicago White Sox outfielder Mike Tauchman (hamstring) began his rehab assignment in Triple-A Charlotte, reports Scott Merkin of MLB.com. He suffered a strained hamstring during spring training but is eligible to be activated off of the injured list on Friday. He slashed .248/.357/.366 with seven home runs and six stolen bases in 109 games for the Cubs in 2024. While he's not the most exciting player for fantasy, he should see a lot of playing time for the White Sox and should deliver a high OBP. He posted a 13.4% walk rate (98th percentile) last season, so he could be useful in deep AL-only formats.
From RotoBaller
Texas Rangers outfielder Wyatt Langford went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 1-0 win over the Reds. Langford has looked good to begin the season, batting .304 with two homers through the first six games. A huge breakout could be on tap for the youngster, who slashed a respectable .253/.325/.415 with 16 home runs and 19 stolen bases in his rookie year. Drafted less than two years ago, Langford has the upside to become one of the sport's top superstars and could be a first-round pick in 2026 fantasy drafts.
From RotoBaller
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi tossed a gem on Tuesday, shutting out the Reds in a 1-0 victory. He allowed four hits and struck out eight batters in his nine innings of work. He was extremely efficient, needing just 99 pitches to finish the game. This is his second quality start in a row to begin the season, as he struck out nine over six solid innings on Opening Day. The veteran was solid in 2024, posting a 3.80 and 1.11 WHIP in 170 innings. He can be volatile at times, but when everything is working right, he looks like an ace. He is a must-start fantasy option for the time being as he rides out this hot stretch.
From RotoBaller
The Atlanta Braves acquired relief pitcher Michael Petersen from the Angels on Tuesday in exchange for cash considerations. He was optioned to Triple-A. This didn't come as a shock, as he had recently been designated for assignment by the Angels. He struggled in 2024 in 16 appearances, posting a 5.95 ERA and 1.63 WHIP with 14 strikeouts and 11 walks over 19 innings. He was much better in the minors, delivering a 1.64 ERA. Petersen isn't a name to watch for fantasy purposes, but he could see himself in Atlanta's big league bullpen at some point this year.
From RotoBaller
MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports that Atlanta Braves right-hander Reynaldo Lopez (shoulder) will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder to determine if he has any structural damage after imaging only showed inflammation. A timetable for Lopez's return won't be known until after he has surgery, but he's expected to miss at least a couple of months. The Braves lost outfielder Jurickson Profar to an 80-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs on Monday and have now lost one of their best starters from a year ago for a few months. That's all on top of Atlanta starting off the year 0-5. Lopez was a first-time All-Star in 2024 in his first year in Atlanta with a 1.99 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in his return to a starting role for the first time since 2019, but the expanded workload has taken its toll. Bryce Elder will start in Lopez's play on Wednesday against the Dodgers, but it won't be long before Spencer Strider (elbow) makes his return to Atlanta's starting rotation.
From RotoBaller
The Philadelphia Phillies claimed right-hander Brett de Geus off waivers from the Miami Marlins on Tuesday and optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, according to MLB.com's Todd Zolecki. de Geus spent the 2024 season with three different teams -- the Seattle Mariners, Marlins and Toronto Blue Jays -- and will now head to his fourth different team since January. The 27-year-old will merely be organizational relief depth for the Phillies for the time being and isn't on the fantasy radar at all. He was originally a 33rd-round pick by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2017 out of Cabrillo College. de Geus made his major-league debut with the Texas Rangers in 2021 and also pitched with the Arizona Diamondbacks that year. In parts of two big-league seasons with five different teams, he has a 7.48 ERA and 1.71 WHIP in 61 1/3 relief frames.
