The Houston Texans released their first unofficial depth chart of the preseason on Tuesday, and rookie wide receiver Jayden Higgins was listed as a starter next to Nico Collins and Christian Kirk. As we always say, take unofficial depth charts with a grain of sand in the preseason. It's a good sign for the 22-year-old second-rounder, but it hardly guarantees him a big role right away in his first NFL season in Houston. The Iowa State product was productive in college and showed plenty of athleticism at the scouting combine in February. The problem is that Collins should continue to be a target hog through the air in an offense with a shaky offensive line. It's possible that Higgins could continue ascending and leapfrog Kirk for WR2 duties, but that will likely take time. Consider Higgins a decent late-round dart throw for receiver depth in fantasy drafts.

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Mike Gesicki (undisclosed) will not play in the preseason opener on Thursday against the Philadelphia Eagles due to an undisclosed injury, according to Ben Baby of ESPN. Gesicki said he'd be questionable but optimistic if it was a game week during the regular season. The Bengals will play their starters for a little bit on Thursday, but Gesicki won't be included while he manages what is likely a minor injury. The 29-year-old appeared to injure his leg during a scrimmage over the weekend on Saturday, but fantasy managers will want to check back for more updates on Gesicki. Hopefully, he's back on the field again sooner than later. A longer than expected absence would open up more playing time for new TE Noah Fant. When healthy, Gesicki is merely a low-end TE2 in fantasy while being overshadowed by bit-time receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield (hand) is back at training camp practice on Tuesday after missing two days last week with a hand contusion that he suffered when he hit a teammate's helmet on a follow-through. Mayfield's injury was never considered serious and he'll be ready to go when the regular season kicks off in early September. The 30-year-old former first overall pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2018 out of Oklahoma has been a Pro Bowler each of the last two seasons in Tampa as the starter, but he'll have a new offensive coordinator yet again in 2025. He threw for a career-high 4,500 passing yards and 41 touchdowns last year while also leading the league with 16 interceptions. The Bucs should continue to be a pass-happy offense, and Mayfield has lots of weapons. For the expected volume alone, Mayfield has low-end QB1 value in fantasy.
From RotoBaller
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise Brown (ankle) remains absent at training camp practice on Tuesday, according to Pete Sweeney of Arrowhead Pride. While the Chiefs continue to say that Hollywood's ankle injury isn't serious, it's now been a week since he last practiced. It means that the 28-year-old will almost certainly be held out of the team's preseason opener this Saturday against the Arizona Cardinals. Brown still has plenty of time to get ready for the start of the 2025 regular-season opener in early September, but this is a reminder of the fact that he only played in two regular-season games in 2024 in his first year with the team due to injury. When all of the Chiefs' pass-catchers are healthy, Brown might be quarterback Patrick Mahomes' fourth target behind Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy and tight end Travis Kelce.
From RotoBaller
The Los Angeles Rams and running back Kyren Williams agreed to a three-year, $33 million extension on Tuesday, including $23 million in guarantees, according to agents Drew and Jason Rosenhaus. Williams gets rewarded with a new deal after topping 1,000 yards rushing in each of the last two seasons with the rams. Last year in 16 regular-season starts, the 24-year-old had a career-high 316 carries for 1,299 rushing yards and a career-best 14 rushing touchdowns, adding a career-high 34 receptions on 40 targets for another 182 yards and two scores. The numbers were great for fantasy purposes, but Williams wasn't as efficient as his Pro Bowl season in 2023, and second-year RB Blake Corum could see more involvement in 2025. It will be hard for Williams to ever be as efficient as he was in 2023 if Corum becomes more involved. He's on the RB1/2 borderline in RotoBaller's rankings.

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown (hamstring) is not participating again in practice on Tuesday. However, Zach Berman of PHLY noted that the team is likely exercising caution with their top wideout given that we are still in the early stages of the preseason. However, fantasy managers should continue to keep a close eye on his status in case this injury begins to linger as we approach the regular season. In 2024, Brown posted his third-straight 1,000-yard campaign as he brought in 1,079 yards on just 67 receptions across 13 games. He found the back of the end zone seven times and posted a strong 16.1 YPR. Despite playing in a run-focused offense spearheaded by superstar Saquon Barkley, Brown remains a solid WR1 in all leagues given his ability to find the back of the end zone.

Minnesota Vikings running back Jordan Mason was viewed as a "massive" part of Minnesota's offseason plan, according to head coach Kevin O'Connell. During the spring, the Vikings acquired Mason via a trade. During the 2024 campaign, Mason emerged as a key contributor to the San Francisco rushing attack when Christian McCaffrey was sidelined. On a career-high 153 carries, Mason tallied 789 yards and three scores. During the first seven weeks, Mason flashed RB1 upside as he averaged a strong 14.8 PPR points per game and averaged 95.3 yards per game during this stretch. In addition, reports from Vikings camp suggest the team views him and veteran Aaron Jones as "Co-RB1s." While Jones will likely see the slight majority of carries, Mason possesses much higher upside given his age and speed. He is worth viewing as a standalone flex option and a high-upside handcuff if Jones were to miss time.
From RotoBaller
New York Jets rookie tight end Mason Taylor (ankle) has been diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain, according to Connor Hughes of SNY. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he could be sidelined for at least the opening game of the preseason and potentially longer, given the severity. The Jets selected the former LSU Tiger in the second round (42nd overall) in the 2025 NFL Draft. Taylor tallied a career-high 546 yards on 55 receptions during his final season at LSU in 2024. For the time being, Jeremy Ruckert and Stone Smartt should continue to see most of the starting opportunities. Taylor appears to have a path to earning the starting role, given the lack of production on the depth chart. However, this injury could make it difficult for Taylor to earn key reps during training camp. For now, fantasy managers should view him as a dynasty stash and only a late-round option in deeper, 14+ team redraft leagues.

Green Bay Packers cornerback Nate Hobbs (knee) had knee surgery on Saturday but could still be ready for his Packers debut in Week 1 against the Lions, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky. He will miss the preseason, though, after undergoing the procedure to repair a partial meniscus tear. Hobbs played the first four seasons of his career with the Raiders and signed a big four-year deal worth $48 million with the Packers. He missed six games last season and 16 over the last three seasons combined because of ankle injuries, a hand injury, and illness. Injuries were a big part of why the Packers parted ways with star cornerback Jaire Alexander this offseason, and Hobbs is expected to help replace Alexander. While this may not be an injury that impacts his regular-season availability directly, it could be a bad sign if it's the start of a trend.
From RotoBaller
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (back) still has yet to practice for the Rams this preseason, but the team seems to be managing his workload carefully. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, "This sounds more like a maintenance issue ... and they feel like if there were a game today, Stafford would be able to play ... it doesn't sound overly alarming right now." Stafford's progress in camp will continue to be a key storyline to watch this preseason, but at this point, it doesn't look like it will be an issue that forces him to miss game time once the season starts. The Rams host the Texans in Week 1 on September 7, and if Stafford is surprisingly not ready, Jimmy Garoppolo would likely be the next option. Stetson Bennett IV and Dresser Winn are the other QB options on the Rams depth chart, who will get more work in camp and preseason while Stafford is out.
From RotoBaller
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and other big-name starters will play "several series" in the team's first preseason game this Thursday against the Eagles, according to coach Zac Taylor. They'll also get even more work in the second week of the preseason against the Commanders. Taylor said it's a new way for the team to approach the preseason with the goal of getting off to a fast start. The Bengals lost to the Patriots in Week 1 last season and got off to a 1-4 start. They will try to avoid a similar start to this season and open on the road in Cleveland before their home opener in Week 2 against Jacksonville. The Bengals' starters will have increased risk of injury in this new plan, but hopefully, it will help them start at full speed out of the gate.
From RotoBaller
Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren was listed as the top running back on the team's initial preseason depth chart. Veteran Kenneth Gainwell is listed behind only Warren, while rookie Kaleb Johnson is the third back on the depth chart. Johnson has been struggling with pass coverage, according to reports, which could limit his role early in the season and give Warren and Gainwell a chance to dominate the workload. Warren has always been excellent in pass coverage and could benefit from Aaron Rodgers' tendency to check down to running backs. Johnson could still earn short-yardage and goal-line work as the preseason continues, but for now, Warren looks to be the clear frontrunner for work in the Steelers' backfield.
From RotoBaller
New England Patriots wide receiver DeMario Douglas has been the team's "second-best wide receiver" to date in training camp practices, according to Chad Graff of The Athletic. Despite this, Graff writes that Douglas' playing time could be limited because he only works from the slot. In 17 games (seven starts) for New England last season, Douglas recorded 66 catches for 621 yards and three touchdowns. He looks to be the team's primary slot receiver and could be the number two target-earner behind Stefon Diggs. Douglas doesn't have a ton of explosion down the field, and he's scored just three touchdowns in 31 career games, so his profile for fantasy is better suited towards PPR-scoring formats.
From RotoBaller
Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Cade Otton (hamstring) will remain out for the team's practice on Tuesday, according to Greg Auman of Fox Sports. Otton has been sidelined for over a week with what Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles described as a "mild" hamstring strain. There's been no indication as of yet that Otton is at risk of missing regular-season time. If the injury does end up sidelining him, Payne Durham and Ko Kieft would be in line for more snaps at tight end in Tampa Bay. In 14 games for the Buccaneers in 2024, Otton recorded 59 catches for 600 yards and four touchdowns. There's significant target competition for him in Tampa Bay due to the team's talent and depth at wide receiver, so Otton profiles as a TE2 for fantasy.
From RotoBaller
Free-agent quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is visiting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday and is expected to sign with the team, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Bridgewater will presumably be competing with Kyle Trask for the backup job behind Baker Mayfield in Tampa Bay. The 32-year-old Bridgewater spent most of 2024 coaching at Miami Northwestern Senior High School, but was lured out of retirement by the Detroit Lions in December. Miami Northwestern suspended Bridgewater in July due to an investigation into his involvement in alleged impermissible program benefits, and it appears Bridgewater is once again headed back to the NFL. A former first-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings, Bridgewater will be entering his 11th NFL season. He's completed 66.4% of his career pass attempts and thrown for 75 touchdowns in 79 games played.
From RotoBaller
Indianapolis Colts running back Tyler Goodson is listed as the RB2 behind Jonathan Taylor on the team's first unofficial depth chart. Fifth-round rookie DJ Giddens has reportedly been a standout in training camp practices, but he's listed behind Goodson as the RB3 for the time being. Goodson is entering his third year with the Colts. In 16 games in 2024, Goodson recorded 214 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns on 43 total touches. While Taylor is expected to dominate carries and early-down work in Indianapolis, there should be an opportunity for the winner of the RB2 role to earn snaps on passing downs. Taylor also has a history of ankle issues, so either Goodson or Giddens could emerge as an intriguing late-round handcuff option with a strong preseason.
From RotoBaller
Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott probably won't play in any of the team's three preseason games, according to ESPN's Todd Archer, who characterized it as a 'strong likelihood' that Prescott would not appear.
From TheHuddle
The Atlanta Falcons have agreed to terms on a two-year, $30 million contract extension with offensive tackle Kaleb McGary, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. McGary has been a mainstay on the offensive line for Atlanta since being drafted in 2019, starting 92 of 93 career games at right tackle. He has been better as a run-blocker over his career and earned a run-blocking grade of 77.6 last season by PFF, which ranked 16th among tackles. His 63.8 pass-blocking grade was more middle of the pack, but lags compared to his performance in the run game. The 30-year-old will be trusted to protect quarterback Michael Penix Jr.'s blindside this upcoming season with him being a lefty quarterback.
From RotoBaller
San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan James returned to practice on Monday after dealing with a knee injury, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic. The 2025 fifth-round pick returns to practice as Isaac Guerendo is expected to miss a few weeks with a shoulder injury, potentially opening a window for James to secure the number two running back role behind Christian McCaffrey. James was hyper-productive in 2024 at Oregon, accumulating 1,267 rushing yards while adding 209 as a receiver. Running backs under head coach Kyle Shanahan are always highly sought after for fantasy purposes, and along with McCaffrey's health concerns, James could be worth a late-round flier as a handcuff.
From RotoBaller
San Francisco 49ers kicker Jake Moody beat out Greg Joseph in the kicker competition and is set to be the starter. Moody has gone 21-for-24 on kicks throughout training camp, compared to Joseph, who was slightly better at 22-for-24. The 2023 third-round pick has been disappointing so far in his career, making 76.3% of his career field goals. He struggled more in 2024, where he made only 70.6% of his kicks, which ranked fifth lowest among all kickers. He'll open the season with a favorable setup as the 49ers offense projects to be one of the best in football.
