2024 RTSports Outlook

The Bucs picked Irving in the fourth round of this year's draft. He could emerge as the top pass-catching back for the Bucs, spelling Rachaad White some in passing situations. Irving can excel in that area. He isn't much of a between the tackles runner, though, and isn't built like a three-down back. He is best used on the outside and as a pass catching option. He racked up the receptions in college. Look for Irving to be the top backup and third-down back for the Bucs his rookie season.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Irving has some potential because of his pass-catching abilities but his yardage totals won't be any special and he might have a hard time finding the end zone much. Look for round 30 receptions, 500 total yards and a few scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Bucky Irving went to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft after a disappointing NFL Combine lowered expectations. He posted particularly poor vertical and broad jump metrics, but his body of collegiate work and fit within Tampa's scheme provide hope. Not only did Irving top 1,000 rushing yards in both of his Oregon years after transferring from Minnesota, but he also caught a whopping 56 passes in 2023 alone. The Bucs saw Rachaad White tally 50 or more receptions in back-to-back seasons, though he's yet to average over 3.7 yards per carry in a year. Some of that is on the O-Line, but results matter. Meanwhile, Irving had a 6.8 YPC in 2022 and a 6.3 mark in '23. The NFL will demand more of Irving's power and elusiveness but the environment is there for a versatile back by proving more efficient than White, whose value is built on volume. Irving is RotoBaller's RB61 in half-PPR ranks and the No. 55 RB in early half-PPR ADP, making him a healthy sleeper option in the late rounds.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving recently received praise from the team's offensive coordinator Liam Coen. The organization seems excited about Irving's speed and his ability to make people miss in space. The fourth-round pick should work his way into the mix early given the Bucs lack of depth at the position. Irving could be an interesting change-of-pace option for the Bucs this season. Rachaad White remains the lead back, but having someone like Irving on the roster should help ease White's workload.

Dynasty | The Tampa Bay Bucs drafted Oregon running back Bucky Irving in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. Dynasty Analysis: Irving lasted until the fourth round before being taken by the Tampa Bay Bucs. It's an interesting landing spot as incumbent starter Rachaad White was good for long stretches last year but never consistent enough for anyone to believe he's the sure-fire long-term answer at the position. Irving should slot in behind White and offer some change-of-pace ability at first but could also be an injury or two away from relevance. He looks like a decent mid-roudn pick in rookie drafts as a result.
