2024 RTSports Outlook

Lock started playing four games and started two for the Seahawks last season. He played pretty well, completing 63.2 percent of his passes for 543 yards and three touchdowns with three interceptions. Lock plays the top backup role well and should hold that job once again this season with his new team, the Giants. Lock has a huge arm and can make all the throws. He will make some plays with his legs, using his athletic ability. He will miss some easy throws and can struggle with mechanics at times because of his great arm, trusting his arm strength more so than having proper technique. He is also indecisive in his pocket. Lock has not progressed as expected and might have a hard time being a full-time starter in the NFL once again.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Lock has a little potential if he finds his way into the starting lineup for the Giants. He has some big-game potential and can make some plays with his legs.

RotoBaller's Outlook

New York Giants quarterback Drew Lock enters his sixth NFL season as the backup to Daniel Jones, who is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in Week 8 of last season. While Jones had an awful season before the injury, much of the blame can be tied to poor offensive line play and a tough opening schedule. As such, Lock has asserted he's been brought in to be Jones' backup and not to compete for a starting job. However, if Jones shows anything like the poor 2:6 TD:INT from six games last year then Lock should get a crack. But Lock, who has a career 59.7% completion rate and nearly as many TDs as INTs over the last four years (21:20), has limited appeal. He does boast plus arm strength and deep accuracy, which could shine if Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, and Jalin Hyatt embrace their field-stretching abilities. But as the QB40 in both RotoBaller's rankings and early ADP, Lock can be left on the wire to start the season.

New York Giants quarterback Drew Lock signed with the organization as a free agent this offseason, and given the struggles of Daniel Jones, many have speculated he could push for the starting job. However, Giants reporter Connor Hughes believes he is not a legitimate threat to take the QB1 job. "[Lock] isn't that good. Very obvious of that during offseason program. He's a serviceable starter, but I don't think he's a threat to be the starter unless it really hits the fan," Hughes wrote on X. The former second-round pick by the Denver Broncos out of Missouri has thrown for 5,283 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions in his first 28 game appearances. He has a 9-14 record as a starter. While Jones has had plenty of downs, he's had more flashes of upside than Lock, so he's likely simply the better player. Given New York's lack of weapons, Lock would have limited fantasy upside if he's called into action this year.

Despite a report on Thursday evening that Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider said the New York Giants convinced him that quarterback Drew Lock would compete for a starting role with the G-Men in 2024, the Giants did not tell Lock that he would be competing for the starting gig with Daniel Jones in order to sign him. Lock signed a one-year, $5 million deal with New York on Tuesday to fill the traditional role of a backup behind Jones, according to a source familiar with the negotiations. Schneider said Seattle wanted to re-sign Lock, but he opted not to return to the Seahawks. Jones is coming off a torn ACL and is running out of chances to prove himself as the QB of the future for the Giants, but there is no QB controversy between him and Lock to open the season.

Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider said on a Seattle radio show on Thursday that he wanted to keep quarterback Drew Lock around, but the New York Giants "basically sold him on the opportunity to compete to be the starter." Schneider said that Lock views the situation with the Giants as possibly being similar to Baker Mayfield in Tampa last year. Lock might think he has a better shot of unseating Daniel Jones in New York for the starting gig under center than in Seattle for Geno Smith, but there's no way of knowing exactly what the G-Men are thinking. Most likely, the Giants are giving themselves more insurance at QB for Jones, who is coming off a torn ACL in 2023. Despite the addition of Lock in free agency, the Giants remain a candidate to trade up in the first round to take a signal-caller of the future. Lock could make starts for the Giants in 2024 if Jones struggles or gets hurt again, but at best, he'd be a low-end QB2 in superflex leagues.

Dynasty | The Giants have signed quarterback Drew Lock. Dynasty Analysis: Lock will presumably back up Daniel Jones unless the Giants address the position further in the upcoming NFL Draft. He's been solid in stretches throughout his time in Denver and Seattle but hardly looks capable of taking the keys to the franchise. Still, it's a decent landing spot for Lock as the quarterback position in the Big Apple is hardly set in stone. He's not roster worthy in dynasty leagues at the moment but should certainly be on a watch list.

The New York Giants are signing free-agent quarterback Drew Lock to an undisclosed deal on Tuesday. Lock will head to the Big Apple and will presumably serve as the backup to Daniel Jones (knee), who is coming off a torn ACL, in 2024 now that Tyrod Taylor is with the Jets. The former second-round pick of the Denver Broncos in 2019 out of Missouri showed some upside in his four appearances (two starts) as Geno Smith's backup for the Seattle Seahawks last year, going 48-for-76 for 543 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. Lock has been in a backup role since throwing 16 touchdowns and a league-high 15 picks in 13 starts in 2020 before being traded to Seattle before the 2022 season. At best, Lock would probably be a low-end QB2 in superflex leagues if Jones is hurt again in 2024.
