2024 RTSports Outlook

The Bears added another weapon for rookie Caleb Williams and the passing game, using a first-round pick on Odunze. He is a big, strong receiver that does well on the contested catch. He is a top playmaker at the position. His route running could sharpen some, though, which could hold him back a little early in his career. Odunze is likely the No. 3 receiver for the Bears, playing behind D.J. Moore and Keenan Allen.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Odunze didn't land in a great spot for his fantasy value. He has a lot to compete with for targets. He is going to have a few big games, though. He is a dynamic talent. Odunze will be a much better fantasy option in a few seasons. For now, consider him a fantasy reserve, getting around 60 receptions for 800 yards and four of five touchdowns.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Washington WR Rome Odunze was selected ninth overall by the Chicago Bears in the 2024 NFL Draft. He joins Caleb Williams, who came aboard first overall to be the signal-caller. Odunze exploded for 1,640 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns on 92 receptions this past season at Washington and now rounds out an incredible WR trio alongside DJ Moore and Keenan Allen. There's also Cole Kmet at tight end and a capable receiver in D'Andre Swift at running back. While Odunze boasts great talent and polish to his game, competing with all of those names as Williams gets up to speed in the NFL could create turbulence. Luckily, new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron should give this Chicago roster more passing intent after a bottom-six Pass Rate Over Expectation (PROE) mark of -4.9% per NFELO. He comes from the Rams, who just led the league in 11 personnel playcalling, and Odunze is scouted as a plus run-blocker. Three-wide sets may rule Chicago's playbook. Odunze's redraft value is shaky thanks to an early ADP within the top-100 picks amidst his target competition, but his dynasty outlook next to Williams is bright as Keenan Allen is a free agent after 2024.

Chicago Bears rookie first-round wide receiver Rome Odunze has found ways to stand out in a crowded receivers room during training camp and the preseason while building a connection with rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. "He's polished," wide receiver Keenan Allen said. "You don't have to teach him how to play receiver." He's still experienced learning moments this summer, like when his feet were out of bounds upon catching a pass in the end zone in last week's preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, but he's also shown he's not an average rookie. Odunze has highlighted the explosive element he brings to Chicago, but he's likely to struggle for consistency in his first year in the NFL as the No. 3 behind Allen and DJ Moore. Even then, fantasy managers will want to target him as a WR4/flex in standard-sized leagues because of his immense upside and polish.

Dynasty | Bears receiver Rome Odunze had one catch for 45 yards and one carry for 16 yards in the Bears preseason win against the Bengals. Dynasty Analysis: Odunze nearly had a highlight reel touchdown catch but his foot touched out of bounds. Odunze has clearly looked NFL ready all off-season and could push Keenan Allen to be the second receiver for the Bears this season. While dynasty managers may need to be a little patient with him, it certainly seems as if this top-3 rookie pick has a long and productive career ahead of him.

Aug 18 9:30am CT

Chicago Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze saw an increase in snaps to 20 during the 27-3 preseason win over the Bengals, catching one of two targets for a 45-yard gain from quarterback Caleb Williams. Odunze also rushed for the first time in his professional career, gaining 16 yards. The Bears' offense showed some exciting flashes but generally struggled throughout most of the first half before their first touchdown drive late in the half. Odunze had more opportunities to work downfield with DJ Moore limited to nine snaps and Keenan Allen playing just eight snaps. His final chance to improve in the preseason comes on Thursday at Kansas City before he makes his regular-season debut on September 8 against the Titans.

Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze recently heaped high praise on rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, describing his performance as "pretty unreal." Odunze highlighted a memorable moment: "He's throwing off one leg, putting it on my outside shoulder. It's like ooh, it's magical what he's doing back there in the backfield. He's special." This excitement about Chicago's revamped offense is well-founded, especially given the impact both players are making. During their latest preseason game, Williams connected with Odunze for a spectacular 45-yard completion late in the first half, putting the Bears in scoring position. Odunze's standout performance also included a 16-yard rush on a reverse. Williams capped off the drive with a thrilling 7-yard scramble into the end zone. Given their impressive preseason showings, both rookies are shaping up to be intriguing late-round fantasy picks this year.

Chicago Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze has impressed head coach Matt Eberflus with his maturity. "I think he knows himself really well," Eberflus said of Odunze. "Very mature for his age. He's a wonderful teammate and he's going to be exciting to watch," Eberflus also shared. After Odunze caught 92 passes for an FBS-leading 1,640 yards and 13 touchdowns in 15 games at Washington in 2023, the Bears chose him at ninth overall in the NFL draft to form one of the league's preeminent supporting casts for No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams. Odunze has plenty of upside as a WR3/4 pick in the second half of drafts this summer, but while working alongside D.J. Moore, Keenan Allen, Cole Kmet in Chicago's offense, he'll need the attack to run at a higher tempo and become more pass-oriented to avoid getting lost in the shuffle. The 22-year-old wideout is ranked by RotoBaller as the WR45 overall, with an ADP of 69 ahead of training camp this week.

Chicago Bears rookie wide receiver Rome Odunze, the No. 8 overall pick in this year's NFL draft, officially signed his four-year, fully-guaranteed contract worth $22-plus million on Tuesday. The deal includes a $13 million signing bonus and a fifth-year team option. Odunze was clearly one of the top receiving prospects in this year's draft and lands in a favorable position in the Windy City alongside top overall pick and quarterback Caleb Williams. However, fantasy managers in single-year leagues may want to temper expectations for the former Washington Husky, as he'll be competing for targets in his first year in the NFL with DJ Moore and Keenan Allen. The ultra-athletic pass-catcher is still worth a late-round flier, though, as a WR4/5, and he'd be a weekly starter in fantasy lineups if one of Moore or Allen miss time with injury.

Jun 27 3:50pm CT

Chicago Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze is an exciting young asset for fantasy football, but since he will share the field with DJ Moore and Keenan Allen while catching passes from a rookie quarterback, his upside in Year 1 could be limited. According to Michael Smith of Pro Football Talk, he is a contender for the team's punt returner role. This could indicate that the team will bring him along slowly as a receiver during the regular season, but it's always a bonus to have additional special teams value. Barring an Allen or Moore injury, it would be a surprise if Odunze finishes as a top-24 wide receiver in his rookie campaign, though anything is possible for an elite collegiate prospect.

May 30 2:10pm CT

Chicago Bears rookie first-round wide receiver Rome Odunze (hamstring) was seen on the field taking part in organized team activities on Thursday, and he showed off his contested-catch abilities. The Bears took precaution in holding Odunze out of previous OTA sessions last week, but the 21-year-old Washington Husky alumni is now back on the field as he prepares for his first season in the NFL. The ninth overall pick in last month's NFL draft has a bright future ahead of him and can pretty much do anything on the football field as a receiver, but fantasy managers in single-year redraft leagues may want to pump the brakes on his value in 2024 as long as both DJ Moore and Keenan Allen stay healthy in front of him in Chicago's receiver pecking order. But in the long term, Odunze may have the highest ceiling of any rookie wideout while being paired with QB Caleb Williams, the first overall pick.

May 23 3:40pm CT

Chicago Bears rookie wide receiver Rome Odunze (hamstring) is on track to practice next week after sitting out rookie mini-camp and the start of OTAs. Odunze has been dealing with hamstring tightness, but the injury isn't concerning at this point in the offseason. The No. 9 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft is viewed as at least a high-end wide receiver prospect after racking up 167 receptions for 2,785 yards and 20 touchdowns over his last two collegiate seasons at Washington. He'll get a chance to grow as a pro alongside quarterback Caleb Williams, but he'll face stiff target competition as a rookie. DJ Moore and Keenan Allen have a combined ten seasons of at least 1,000 receiving yards and both were effective players last year. Meanwhile, running back D'Andre Swift and tight ends Cole Kmet and Gerald Everett have all had big games as receivers, so Odunze could be more of a 2025-and-beyond asset for fantasy football.

May 11 12:10pm CT

Chicago Bears rookie first-round wide receiver Rome Odunze (hamstring) is dealing with hamstring tightness and will sit out of Saturday's rookie minicamp practice. It's likely nothing to worry about in the long run, but it's also not a great start for Odunze as he looks to get going as a top-10 pick in this year's NFL draft. It's something to keep an eye on with the 21-year-old from Washington as we get deeper into the offseason and closer to training camp. The Bears took Odunze at No. 9 overall to give rookie quarterback Caleb Williams more weapons in the passing attack in addition to established veterans DJ Moore and Keenan Allen. Odunze was extremely productive in college and is ultra-athletic on the football field, but it's going to be tough for him to produce consistent numbers in Chicago's offense in his rookie season as long as both Moore and Allen stay healthy.

Apr 25 8:20pm CT

The Chicago Bears selected Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze with the ninth overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft on Thursday night. Thats back-to-back picks out of Washington after quarterback Michael Penix Jr. surprisingly went eighth overall to the Atlanta Falcons. Odunze led the country in receiving yards in 2023 and is a special talent. He has length and excels at contested catches down the field. It helped that he had an excellent passer to throw him the football in Penix, but this kid is still special and should have an excellent career. The Bears have now added QB Caleb Williams and Odunze with their first two picks this year. While Odunze has plenty to like in the long-term, he'll be hard-pressed to make a huge impact in his rookie season in 2024 with DJ Moore and Keenan Allen set to be target hogs in this Bears offense.

The New York Giants haven't hid the fact that they will consider taking a quarterback in this year's NFL draft with Daniel Jones (knee) coming back from an ACL tear, but The Athletic's Bruce Feldman writes that they'll have their choice of two stud wide receivers in Washington's Rome Odunze and LSU's Malik Nabers if they stand pat at pick No. 6 overall. But after drafting blazer Jalin Hyatt last year, Feldman believes they'll go for the bigger and more physical Odunze. The 21-year-old is a former track standout and is very explosive. He had 92 catches for 1,640 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2023, and his ball skills are elite. However, landing with Jones and the G-Men might not be the most attractive spot for Odunze's immediate fantasy football value in his rookie year. But Odunze's contested-catch abilities and ability to play both inside and outside make him very attractive.

Apr 4 1:10pm CT

After meeting with the Chicago Bears on Thursday, Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze's next top-30 visit will be with the Arizona Cardinals, who hold the fourth overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft. However, the Cardinals remain a prime candidate to trade back in the draft. The 21-year-old Odunze is considered a top-three pass-catcher -- along with Ohio State's Marvin Harrison Jr. and LSU's Malik Nabers -- in this year's draft class and is likely to come off the board in the top-10 picks later this month. He already met with the New York Jets, who hold the No. 10 overall pick and the Chicago Bears, who have the No. 1 and No. 9 picks in the first round. Odunze can do it all on the football field. He has elite speed and can also win contested catches deep down the field. Depending on where he lands, he could be a weekly fantasy starter as a rookie.

Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze, one of the very best wideouts in this year's draft class and a likely top-10 pick next month, visited with the New York Jets on Wednesday and will visit with the Chicago Bears on Thursday, according to a source. Odunze has already spent time with the New York Giants, too. The Bears are going to take USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall pick, but they could give Williams another weapon and take Odunze if he's on the board with their second top-10 pick at No. 9. The Giants have the sixth overall pick, while the Jets hold the No. 10 selection. The 21-year-old pass-catcher has elite speed and can also excel deep down the field on contested catches, and if he lands in the right situation, he could be an every-week fantasy starter in Year 1 in 2024. Odunze was ultra productive in 2023 for the Huskies, recording 1,640 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns.

Mar 28 3:40pm CT

Former Washington Huskies wide receiver Rome Odunze has upcoming meetings with the Arizona Cardinals, New York Jets, and Chicago Bears at their respective facilities, he told Brady Henderson of ESPN. The 21-year-old is projected to be selected in the early first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and most analysts rank him just behind Ohio State's Marvin Harrison Jr. and LSU's Malik Nabers. He is coming off a 92-catch, 1,640-yard, 13-touchdown season in 2023, and he impressed at the NFL Combine. Arizona holds the No. 4 pick, New York holds the No. 10 pick, and Chicago owns the No. 1 and No. 9 overall picks. Oduzne will be a highly sought-after fantasy football rookie next year regardless of his landing spot, but target competition in Chicago and New York could make it tough for him to have a massive breakout in his first season as a pro. That said, he's viewed as an elite prospect, so anything is possible.

Dynasty | Rome Odunze was impressive at this weekend's NFL Draft Combine, likely solidifying his spot as a top ten pick in this year's NFL Draft. Dynasty Analysis: At 6-3 and 212 pounds, Odunze posted a 4.45-second 40, a 39-inch vertical and a 10-4 broad jump. He was also reportedly wowing scouts all day long with his performance in individual drills, Odunze was a monster this season at Washington, posting a 92/1,640/13 line and looking like one of the Nation's best players all season long. He's very much in play for the top ten in the NFL Draft and should be in position to be the second receiver taken in dynasty drafts behind Marvin Harrison, Jr. starting next month.
