Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jermaine Burton is a healthy scratch for Sunday night's game against the Giants. The rookie looked good during the preseason. However, he has just one catch through the first five weeks of the 2024-25 campaign. Instead, Trenton Irwin will suit up, although he likely won't get much action with Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Andrei Iosivas in the mix.

When asked if Cincinnati Bengals rookie wide receiver Jermaine Burton would warrant more snaps if Tee Higgins (hamstring) remains out in Week 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs, head coach Zac Taylor said, "I think Jermaine is making progress." Higgins hurt his hamstring last Thursday in practice and didn't play in the Week 1 loss to the New England Patriots. It wasn't a good sign that the 23-year-old Burton played just 8% of the offensive snaps behind Ja'Marr Chase, Andrei Iosivas, Trenton Irwin and Charlie Jones. Burton was selected in the third round of the NFL draft back in April but reportedly struggled with his professionalism during offseason workouts and in training camp. The talent is there, but it sounds like Burton needs to mature behind the scenes before he can expect to have any kind of significant role in the Bengals offense. He's merely a dynasty/keeper stash for now.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jermaine Burton (toe) scored twice in the preseason. Yet, it's logical to assume it will still take him at least a year or two before he's consistently relevant for fantasy managers. With that said, Ja'Marr Chase (not injury-related) and Tee Higgins (hamstring) may not be available for the Week 1 opener versus the New England Patriots. If that's the case, the rookie could see more snaps than anticipated, assuming he's cleared to suit up. Granted, Burton will need to compete primarily with Trenton Irwin and Andrei Iosivas for the attention of Joe Burrow. Still, fantasy managers in 12-team leagues and up should keep Burton on the back burner in the event Chase and Higgins are both ruled out.

Cincinnati Bengals rookie third-round wide receiver Jermaine Burton's talent jumps off the page, but off-the-field concerns regarding his coachability pushed him down the draft board in April. The Athletic's Paul Dehner Jr. writes that Burton's scouting report has proven to be true so far; the Bengals have run into issues getting him on board and up to professional standards. He has not been in the vicinity of where he needs to be as a pro so far and even admitted himself that he needs to make strides to crack any rotation in a receiver group already entrenched in their roles. The 23-year-old often ran the wrong routes in practice and preseason games this summer, and the Bengals won't make him active on game day in the regular season if they don't think he's preparing himself in meetings and practice. The bottom line is that Burton's dynasty/keeper stock is dropping quickly.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jermaine Burton had a game-high four catches for 56 yards in Thursday's preseason loss to the Colts. The 2024 No. 80 overall pick struggled in the Bengals' second preseason contest. However, on Thursday, he turned it around to end his preseason with two trips to the end zone. The Bengals enter the 2024-25 campaign with Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins as the top wideouts on the depth chart. Yet, the No. 3 spot is far from a lock. While Andre Iosivas and Trenton Irwin could begin the season by getting more attention from Joe Burrow, Burton may eventually surpass them in production (and snaps). Fantasy managers should view the rookie as a late draft stash, especially since there is a good chance he'll be a waiver target at some point during the year.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jermaine Burton had just one reception for 19 yards in Saturday's preseason loss to the Bears. The rookie had a stellar showing in the Bengals meeting with the Buccaneers, catching three of his four targets for 82 yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately, Burton couldn't keep the momentum going, although most of his time was dedicated to returning kicks. At any rate, the 23-year-old may not be involved consistently during his inaugural campaign. However, Burton could climb the depth chart in the next few years, especially if Tee Higgins doesn't return. Cincinnati will close out the preseason with a Thursday night encounter with the Colts.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jermaine Burton converted four targets into three catches for 82 yards and a touchdown during Saturday's preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Burton has generated plenty of hype during his first training camp, so it was a bit of a surprise that he didn't enter the game until the third quarter and wasn't targeted until the fourth. Nevertheless, he made the most of his time on the field, leading the Bengals in receiving yards and also hauling in a 37-yard touchdown pass. A third-round pick out of Alabama, Burton continues to compete for the No. 3 receiver role with Trenton Irwin and Andre Iosivas. He's an appealing dynasty option, but it's a bit premature to pursue him in most redraft leagues.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jermaine Burton returned to practice on Sunday after being out for a couple of practices last week due to an ankle injury. At the time, the team was calling it an ankle tweak and it seems like that's how it ended up playing out. The rookie receiver is expected to take over the spot left by Tyler Boyd which should translate into a steady diet of targets from Joe Burrow. There are still some unknowns surrounding Tee Higgins, so Burton's value could fluctuate through training camp. Either way, Burton has been a good value selection in dynasty formats and is ranked as the 71st receiver in Rotoballer's half-PPR draft rankings.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jermaine Burton (ankle) was forced to leave practice early on Thursday. Luckily, Burton doesn't appear to have suffered a serious injury. The organization is calling it only an ankle tweak. The third-round rookie was pulled out of practice as a precaution and isn't expected to miss much time. Burton has been seeing increased reps in practice with Ja'Marr Chase currently out. The assumption is that Burton is going to fill the vacant spot left by Tyler Boyd, which should mean steady targets.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jermaine Burton joins one of the best wide receiver groups in the NFL, and although it'll be tough to command targets, the 2024 third-round pick could see a healthy snap share in the slot. The Alabama product is reportedly working with former NFL wideout T.J. Houshmandzadeh in slot drills during his time off before training camp. Chris Roling of The Bengals Wire believes Burton is a candidate to start in three-wide sets alongside Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase right away. "The Bengals could really use Burton in the slot after Tyler Boyd left via free agency. Mike Gesicki will eat some of the snaps there and sophomores like Charlie Jones could, too," said Roling. "But given the universal steal praise the Bengals have received over the Burton pick, it's pretty clear he has the talent and ability to create mismatches from that spot, too." Burton posted 132 receptions for 2,376 yards and 22 touchdowns in two seasons and Georgia and two seasons at Alabama. He is an intriguing late-round option in fantasy football drafts, especially since he could see a value spike if Chase or Higgins have to miss any time during the 2024 campaign.

Cincinnati Bengals rookie wide receiver Jermaine Burton has left a positive impression on the coaching staff despite being drafted less than two weeks ago. According to SI's Albert Breer, Burton has already shown the Bengals that he is a "competitive kid who has good ball skills and the explosiveness to separate from coverage in the NFL." Breer noted that Burton has worked through some off-the-field issues but has the talent needed to make an impact at the pro level. He's currently competing for the No. 3 receiver role behind Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Such a position on the depth chart was most recently occupied by Tyler Boyd. The Bengals would love to get production out of Burton in his first pro season, and as Breer points out, he could benefit from Chase and Higgins drawing away coverage.
