2024 RTSports Outlook

The Jaguars selected Thomas in the first round of this year's draft. He adds another playmaker to the passing game and could challenge to start from day one. He will at least serve as a top deep threat on a weekly basis even if he doesn't happen to start. Thomas is a great athlete that can get to the next level in a hurry. He does well on the deep ball but can also turn a short pass into a big play. His route running needs a little work and he will drop some passes.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Thomas is likely to be hit or miss in his current role. He will have some big games but likely disappear in others. Take him as a reserve and hope to play him in the right matchup. Look for around 50 receptions for 750 yards and five touchdowns.

RotoBaller's Outlook

LSU WR Brian Thomas Jr. landed in a potentially great spot with the Jacksonville Jaguars at No. 23 in the 2024 NFL Draft. The team doesn't have a clear-cut alpha WR1 in their offense and QB Trevor Lawrence still has plenty of untapped superstar potential. The problem out of the gate? The Jaguars offense is currently very crowded for targets with RB Travis Etienne, WR Christian Kirk, WR Gabe Davis, and TE Evan Engram. Thomas blew the doors off of college football last fall playing opposite of star WR Malik Nabers. Thomas finished with 60 receptions for 1,079 yards and 15 TDs. He is an athletic freak who showed out at the NFL Combine and has the potential to dominate opposing DBs, however, Thomas is still developing as a route runner and mostly won in college on go-routes. He is a solid long-term dynasty asset, but expectations should be tempered in Year 1.

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. agreed to and signed his rookie deal on Friday, the team announced on X. The LSU product was selected with the No. 23 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after posting 68 receptions for 1,177 yards, and 17 receiving touchdowns (led nation) in his final collegiate season. With Jacksonville losing Calvin Ridley this offseason, they're expecting the 21-year-old to eventually develop into a No. 1 wide receiver for Trevor Lawrence. While wideout Christian Kirk and tight end Evan Engram are likely to be Lawrence's preferred targets early in the 2024 campaign, Thomas Jr. could become a solid weekly flex option later in the season. He should be able to fend off Gabe Davis if he lives up to his status as a first-round pick.

Dynasty | The 23rd overall pick in the draft, Brian Thomas, Jr., gives Trevor Lawrence a premier downfield threat. Dynasty Analysis: After losing Calvin Ridley to free agency, Lawrence was facing a dearth of receiving options like he hadn't seen in his three year career. Bringing in Brian Thomas, Jr. may even prove to be an upgrade for Lawrence as he looks to bounce back from a disappointing season. Lawrence was able to maintain a top 10 ranking among DLF rankers, but has been closer to dropping below his QB9 rank than rising back into the top five. The selection of Thomas might not move the needle for Lawrence's immediate dynasty value, but should give him every opportunity to outperform his projections.

Dynasty | The Jaguars drafted LSU wide receiver Brian Thomas with the 23rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Dynasty Analysis: Thomas landed in a great spot, being taken late in round one by the Jacksonville Jaguars. A true playmaker, he should have every opportunity to replace Calvin Ridley quickly in the Jaguars offense and is a candidate to be the Offensive Rookie of the Year based on his talent and opportunity. This was a solid development for his value and Thomas should have his spot as a top-6 player in rookie drafts solidified as a result.

The Jacksonville Jaguars wasted no time in replacing Calvin Ridley by selecting LSU wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. with the 23rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. The former Tiger played alongside fellow standout Malik Nabers, but do not overlook his talent. The 21-year-old led the FBS with 17 receiving touchdowns in 2023 and totaled 1,177 receiving yards. Thomas Jr. will be a popular pick in both dynasty and redraft as he should slot in as the number two wide-out behind Christian Kirk and should be a solid option for Trevor Lawrence.

Although LSU wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. stands in the shadow of teammate Malik Nabers for the upcoming NFL draft, the 6-foot-2 7/8, 209-pounder is viewed as a possible top-20 pick in April. "He's about as naturally talented as you can find at the position," NFL Network's Bucky Brooks said. "Big, fast, physical. Runs great routes. Natural catcher. Does a really good job of watching the ball into his hands. He can shine." The biggest question for Thomas is whether he can step outside the shadow of Nabors and be an alpha dog for an NFL team. Because he didn't work out at LSU's pro day on Wednesday, Thomas may not have answered that question completely, but it doesn't mean that a receiver-needy team won't be willing to take him in the first round in 2024.

Dynasty | LSU wide receiver Brian Thomas reportedly had some ups and downs at this year's NFL Draft Combine. Dynasty Analysis: The former LSU wide receiver posted a 38.5-inch vertical and a very impressive 4.33 40, which obviously matches up with his explosiveness you see on tape. Unfortunately, he also had some some drops and struggled at times in various drills. Scouts are going to need to decide if he's a "one trick pony" or a truly versatile threat before deciding how much draft capital to use to secure his services. In the end, Thomas has enough on his resume to likely be a first round pick in dynasty leagues and in the NFL Draft, so dynasty managers shouldn't overreact to much of anything that transpired negatively this weeked.
