Gipson was an undrafted rookie but made the Jets roster and had a role with the team. He was a top return man, being an asset on special teams. He also got some chances as a receiver, finishing with 21 receptions for 229 yards. He had one game with double-digit fantasy points. Gipson has a chance to be the top slot receiver for the Jets this season. He is a small, speed receiver with good moves in space. Gipson is a playmaker. He can get pushed around in coverage some because of his size and isn't much of a downfield threat.
FANTASY OUTLOOK: Gipson could get some more catches this year, making him worth a late-round look for fantasy owners. Just don't expect a very high weekly ceiling in his current role. He has some really good receivers ahead of him on the depth chart. He could get 40 receptions for 400 yards and a few scores.
Gipson was a solid contributor for the New York Jets during his rookie campaign last year. Not only was he the team's primary punt and kickoff returner, he added 21 receptions for 229 yards and rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown on offense. His 5'9", 189-pound frame and supreme quickness helped make him a formidable slot receiver, even though he failed to catch a touchdown toss from New York's subpar quarterbacks. Gipson will have Aaron Rodgers back under center in 2024, which immediately elevates his fantasy value as a receiver -; as long as Gipson starts and gets plenty of targets. He might be thought of as the starting slot receiver for now, but he will have competition for catches coming from rookie Malachi Corley and multi-million-dollar bust Allan Lazard. No. 1 WR Garrett Wilson is entrenched as the top target of the passing attack, and newly-signed Mike Williams is the No. 2 WR as long as he can stay healthy. So at best Gipson is the third option for Rodgers, but if he does not solidify himself as the No. 3 WR, his production and fantasy value could fall by the wayside. He appears to be a WR5 for fantasy football in 2024 with some upward mobility if he brings his game to a higher level and another Williams injury opens the door for more targets and opportunities. Otherwise, Gipson might not be worthy of a fantasy roster spot.

New York Jets wide receiver Xavier Gipson "made plays throughout OTAs and minicamp and seems to have taken a leap forward after a year of NFL experience," according to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic. Rosenblatt even suggested that Gipson might have a leg up on the No. 3 receiver role over Malachi Corley, the fast-rising rookie who has turned some heads during camp but is still adjusting to NFL speed. If Gipson does open 2024 ahead of Corley on the depth chart, he'll still fall behind Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams in the pecking order. As a result, the second-year receiver is merely a bench option in deeper redraft leagues.
From RotoBaller
New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh said wide receiver Xavier Gipson still has "first dibs" on the kick-return job this year, but that it's also an "open competition" involving former Pro Bowl return man Tarik Cohen. Saleh said the soon-to-be-signed running back is an "explosive playmaker" and remembers it being "a nightmare" trying to defend with the Chicago Bears. Cohen could be intriguing with the league's new kickoff rules, starting in 2024, but the 28-year-old speedster is going to need to finally stay healthy to put himself in a position to make an impact for the Jets on special teams. Gipson, a former undrafted free agent out of Stephen F. Austin, returned 33 punts for 319 yards and a touchdown and 22 kickoffs for 511 yards in his rookie campaign in 2023 as the Jets' primary return specialist.
