2024 RTSports Outlook

The Patriots picked Polk in the second round of this year's draft. He has a chance to start his rookie season. Polk has great hands and does his best work on the contested catch. He has good size and strength for the position. He lacks a little ideal speed and his route running could use a little work.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Polk is not the most exciting fantasy option in this offense. He might have a few big games but likely will be hit or miss. He could be worth a reserve look for fantasy teams late in drafts. He can get around 60 receptions for 850 yards and five touchdowns.

RotoBaller's Outlook

The New England Patriots shocked the world when they selected Washington receiver Ja'Lynn Polk thirty-seventh overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. The second-rounder broke out in 2023 with 69 catches for 1,159 yards and nine touchdowns, but may have landed in a less talented receiving room than the one he leaves behind in college. There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the New England offense under new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, who comes over from Cleveland, along with first-year head coach Jerod Mayo calling the shots and a rookie quarterback in Drake Maye piloting the offense. More uncertainty lies in the receiver room, which is a mix of castoffs and unknowns. Polk, fourth-rounder Javon Baker, and second-year Demario Douglas are the most intriguing options for fantasy but veterans Kendrick Bourne, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and K.J. Osborn will take some targets along with tight end Hunter Henry. The uncertainty of the room means that all options can be grabbed at a low price, meaning at least one will likely end up being a huge bargain. Polk is a good bet given that he has the highest draft capital of the young receivers and joins the team in the same class as Maye. He also has the capability to line up in the slot as well as out wide, and could end up as the most heavily targeted player on the team.

The New England Patriots signed second-round wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk to a $9.694 million rookie deal on Thursday that includes a $3.87 million signing bonus. Polk had been relatively quiet in organized team activities open to the media before Monday of this week, when he caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Jacoby Brissett. He has come as advertised to the team's decision-makers and has embraced the steady installation of offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt's playbook, showing a good understanding of a larger menu of plays. Coaches in the building have been impressed with his high-end physical skills that have them believing he'll be more than just a role player in the receivers room in his first NFL campaign. The 22-year-old will have the opportunity to earn playing time on a team without a clear leader at the position, making him worth a late-round flier in deep redraft leagues.

The New England Patriots selected Washington wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk with the No. 37 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. New England has often been predicted to pick a wide receiver in Round 2 after landing their QB of the future in Round 1, and that's exactly what they did. Despite sharing the field with stud wide receiver Rome Odunze in 2023, Polk caught 69 passes for 1,159 yards and nine touchdowns during Washington's run to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. Given the weak wide receiver room in New England, he's another rookie wideout who could become his team's No. 1 wide receiver in short order. He has the ability to start at X-receiver immediately.
