2024 RTSports Outlook

Johnson missed four games because of injury but produced pretty well when on the field. He started 11 of 13 games for the Saints, finishing with 37 receptions for 368 yards and four touchdowns. He was 26th overall in fantasy tight end scoring. Johnson had a great finish to his season, having double-digit fantasy points three of his last four games. Johnson is likely to get first shot to start for the Saints once again this season. He has two straight seasons with 35-plus receptions and at least four touchdowns three straight. Johnson plays more like a receiver than a tight end. He has good speed and size. He runs solid routes and can stretch the field because of his speed and length. He does lack some consistency and will drop some passes.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Johnson is not the most exciting fantasy option but at least has a good weekly floor. Consider him a good spot starter for fantasy teams. He can get around 50 receptions for 500 yards and five touchdowns.

RotoBaller's Outlook

New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson finished the 2023 season as the number 26 tight end in PPR leagues and number 24 in standard leagues with 37 catches, 368 yards, and four touchdowns. The 27-year-old showcased his ability to move downfield at an above-average rate compared to other tight ends last season with a 9.0% of team air yards and 7.2 yards of average depth per target, which place him in the 70th and 69th percentile at his position, respectively. However, while he was given the opportunity to move downfield more often, he posted a poor 62.7% catch rate, which is reflected in his box scores throughout the season. He logged only six games where he had at least three catches and seven games where he had two receptions or less. Besides standout wide receiver Chris Olave and veteran running back Alvin Kamara, the Saints lack proven playmakers in their passing attack, which could open the door for Johnson to contribute in 2024. The former Oregon Duck will be a safety valve for veteran quarterback Derek Carr and will again be given opportunities to succeed in a poor passing attack and could be worth a flier late in your drafts in deeper leagues.

New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson (foot) is scheduled to undergo foot surgery next week, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Johnson suffered the injury during Wednesday's minicamp practice and is expected to miss a significant chunk of time. However, the team is hopeful he'll be ready for the start of the regular season. In Johnson's first year with Derek Carr, he caught 37 passes for 368 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games. He's been a fantasy football sleeper for the last few years and will remain one in 2024, so long as he can recover and get back to action. In his absence, Foster Moreau will likely handle TE1 duties, though Taysom Hill could see more work at that spot for the remainder of the offseason.

New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson (leg) suffered a lower-leg injury and is expected to miss a good amount of time, according to sources. While it's unclear if Johnson is now a candidate to miss the start of the 2024 regular season, at the very least he's going to miss the start of training camp next month and valuable repetitions as the team looks to get ready for next season. The 27-year-old's injury will open up more reps for the likes of Foster Moreau, Taysom Hill, rookie Dallin Holker, Michael Jacobson and Tommy Hudson this summer. Johnson took a step back in 2023 and finished with 37 receptions for 368 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games (11 starts) in his fourth year in the NFL. Even if Johnson is ready for Week 1 of the regular season, Hill will probably cut into his targets enough to keep him as a low-upside, touchdown-dependent TE2 in fantasy.

New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson (chest) is officially active for Week 18 against the Atlanta Falcons. He'll suit up for the regular-season finale despite being listed as questionable. The 27-year-old has looked great lately, catching 14 passes for 172 yards and three touchdowns over his last three games. He had one of the best games of his career last week, commanding 12 targets while amassing 90 yards. Although he hasn't been a consistent performer this season, his recent success makes him a worthwhile option in fantasy football. Managers should view him as a fringe TE1 option given his low floor and high ceiling.

Fantasy managers should view him as a low-end TE1 option in fantasy football given his low floor and high ceiling.

New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson (chest) is listed as questionable for the Week 18 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. Johnson sat out practice to open the week, but was able to get in two limited practice sessions after that. The assumption is that the Saints are just being cautious with Johnson and that he'll be good to go for Sunday. Johnson has been heavily utilized in this offense recently. He has seen 19 targets over the last two games. DFS players might want to look his way as a possible cheap option for this weekend.

Jan 4 9:30pm CT

New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson (chest) returned to a limited practice on Thursday after he picked up a DNP on Wednesday. Johnson has another day to get up to speed, but the fact that he was able to return to practice on Thursday is a good sign for his availability in a must-win Week 18 contest against the visiting Atlanta Falcons. His stock as a low-cost DFS play will be on the rise if running back Alvin Kamara (ankle) is unable to play this weekend. The 27-year-old has plenty of bust potential like most of the tight ends in the league, but he's also found the end zone in three straight games and had season-highs in catches (eight), targets (12) and receiving yards (90) in last week's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In Week 12 against Atlanta, he had four catches for 45 yards.

New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson (shoulder) was not seen on the practice field with the rest of the team on Wednesday. Apparently Johnson picked up a shoulder injury in the Week 17 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Aside from his injury, the 27-year-old had his best performance of the year, catching eight of his 12 targets for 90 yards and a touchdown. Although Johnson has been an inconsistent, touchdown-dependent fantasy streamer at the tight end position this year, he's on the rise after finding the end zone in each of the last three games for the Saints. Johnson's status for the Week 18 regular season finale against the Atlanta Falcons is in question, but if he can return to practice this week and play on Sunday, he'll be in play as a low-end, touchdown-dependent TE1 for fantasy managers.

New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson was heavily used in Week 17's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Johnson led the team in receiving on a season-high 12 targets, grabbing eight receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Derek Carr took advantage of Tampa Bay's inability to cover tight ends, picking the defense apart through Johnson. Johnson has now caught a touchdown in three straight games, extending a streak after scoring just once prior to Week 15. He has paid off for fantasy managers who took a gamble on him throughout the fantasy playoffs.

Updating a previous report, New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson (shoulder) has returned to action on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Johnson hurt his shoulder earlier in the contest and was questionable to return but has re-entered the contest. That's big news for the Saints offense as Johnson is having himself a huge day (4-51-1).

New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson (shoulder) is questionable to return for Sunday's Week 17 contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Johnson injured his shoulder on a long reception during the second quarter of Sunday's contest. He was on his way to a big game as he already scored earlier in the contest but he is now questionable to return. Expect veteran Taysom Hill to pick up some of the slack at the tight end position if Johnson can't make it back.

Dec 29 11:20am CT

New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson has had a disappointing season rattled by injuries but has heated up as of late with touchdowns in back-to-back games. Johnson saw a season-high seven targets last week and appears to be the third option in the passing game behind Chris Olave (ankle) and Rashid Shaheed. The 27-year-old tight end draws a favorable matchup against a Tampa Bay defense that surrenders the third-most fantasy points to tight ends, but New Orleans' committee approach to the tight end position makes Johnson a scary start. He grades as a high-end TE2 this week.

Dec 22 8:10am CT

New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson got more involved in the passing game on Thursday night in the loss to the Los Angeles Rams, tying his season-high in targets and surpassing his season-high in receiving yards. Johnson was targeted seven times, hauling in four receptions for 48 yards and a score. The tight end has now scored a touchdown in back-to-back games and will look to make it three straight as the Saints take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a must-win Week 17 game next Sunday.
