Los Angeles Rams running back Blake Corum has seen minimal play on offense and Week 7 was no different. The third-rounder out of Michigan took three carries for 11 yards in the Rams' 20-15 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Kyren Williams has a firm grasp on the top of the running back depth chart in Los Angeles and his production in 2024 doesn't lend reason for head coach Sean McVay to switch things up any time soon. Week 8 brings a Thursday night matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, who are allowing opposing running backs just 72 yards per game. Corum makes for a great bench stash in the event that Williams gets injured and misses time but the rookie belongs nowhere near starting lineups in Week 8.

The Michigan rookie was more involved in Week 2 at Arizona but that was largely because the Rams were getting blown out by the Cardinals. He saw eight carries for 28 yards and did not catch a pass out of the backfield. The Rams could shift to a more run-heavy approach with Puka Nacua (knee) and Cooper Kupp (ankle) sidelined. That could mean more touches for Corum as he spells Kyren Williams. But until Corum proves to be featured more in this offense, he should be rostered only as a handcuff for Williams. There is plenty of talent there with Corum but the opportunity is not there at the moment.

The Michigan product rushed eight times for 28 yards, which made him the leading rusher in the game for L.A. The 3.5 yards per carry leave something to be desired and he was not targeted in the passing game at all. It should be noted that this game was well out of hand, so Corum's involvement might need to be taken with a grain of salt. But it was a good sign that he got some work in. With Puka Nacua (knee) and Cooper Kupp (ankle) now injured the team could become more of a run-first offense with Kyren Williams and Corum shouldered more of a load. Corum is largely touchdown-dependent as a standalone fantasy option but he could be worth stashing for later in the season.

The Lions had a good run defense last year and Corum will be operating behind a healthy Williams on the depth chart. The Michigan product has the potential to score a touchdown in a short-yardage situation but until his usage is more defined it is best to take a wait-and-see approach with Corum. He has a high upside and could end up being a valuable player to roster in the second half of the season, but there is too much unknown in Week 1.

Not only is Corum listed as their top kick returner, but lead back Kyren Williams is expected to open the year as their top punt returner. Williams is the unquestioned lead back in LA's backfield after an impressive year in 2023, but the 23-year-old Corum is expected to have a sizeable workload behind him to take some pressure off. At the very least, the Michigan product should be handcuffed to Williams in fantasy, but he could also have some standalone fantasy value as an RB4/flex in what could be an explosive Rams offense if quarterback Matthew Stafford stays healthy.

Specifically, he's working to improve his route running, pass-catching, and pass-protection skills. This is an interesting note out of Los Angeles for a couple of reasons. First, Corum was viewed as a goal-line and change-of-pace option when drafted by the Rams just a few weeks ago. Expanding his role suggests Los Angeles has high expectations and optimism for the running back, and it could also lead to more snaps and touches (which equates to extra fantasy points). Second, the Rams' request for Corum to take on a larger role could have some connection to Kyren Williams (foot) being sidelined at OTAs. If the Rams think Williams could be delayed this offseason, it only makes sense that they look to get Corum involved as their No. 1 running back for the time being. Similarly, expanding Corum's skill set prepares him for the opportunity to jump into the starting role during the regular season should Williams suffer a different injury and miss time. The landing spot of the Rams wasn't immediately attractive for fantasy managers looking at drafting Corum. However, the latest signs out of Los Angeles suggest that the Michigan product could get his fair share of work right away in 2024. His fantasy value should climb as September draws nearer.
