Ryland had a really rough rookie season. He missed nine field-goal attempts, going just 16-of-25. He was just 5-of-7 on field goals between 30 and 39 yards, a distance kickers are normally automatic. Ryalnd scored only 72 points for the entire season. The Patriots invested a high draft pick on Ryland but he isn't guaranteed anything after last year. He is going to need to improve in a hurry if he hopes to keep starting in the NFL. Ryland has a really strong leg. His overall accuracy is inconsistent, though, and he will need to show more consistency to remain a starting kicker.
FANTASY OUTLOOK: Ryland is not worth a draft pick. He plays in a poor offense and has big-time accuracy concerns. But if he happens to figure it all out, he could be worth picking up off waivers early in the season.

New England Patriots kicker Chad Ryland isn't a roster lock in 2024 after his difficult rookie season after being selected in the fourth round in 2023. The Patriots signed Joey Slye to compete with Ryland for the kicking job this summer. During organized team activities on Wednesday, he made four of his five field-goal attempts, with his lone miss coming from just beyond 40 yards. The 24-year-old didn't get all that many opportunities to kick field goals in his first year in the NFL in an atrocious Patriots offense, and he made just 64 percent of his 25 attempts. The booter from Maryland has plenty of leg, but he's going to need to be more consistent to lock down the kicking job in 2024. Even if he holds off Slye, Ryland can be ignored in most fantasy football leagues.

New England Patriots kicker Chad Ryland should be left on waivers in all fantasy leagues ahead of Sunday's game against the New York Jets. The rookie has looked miserable this season, converting just 15 of 24 field goals (62.5 percent). His accuracy has been poor and will likely only get worse with snow, rain, and wind making its way into New England. With a bad track record and unfavorable elements working against him, Ryland remains off the fantasy radar for Week 18.

New England Patriots kicker Chad Ryland cannot be trusted in fantasy football leagues ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Buffalo Bills. Although the rookie did make two field goals last Sunday, including a historic 56-yard game-winner, he also missed two kicks in the contest. He is now 21-for-22 on extra points and a woeful 15-for-23 on field goals throughout 15 games in the NFL. To put it simply, fantasy managers should not rely on Ryland during fantasy football's championship week.

New England Patriots kicker Chad Ryland remains droppable in all fantasy leagues ahead of Week 16 versus the Denver Broncos. He has been one of the NFL's worst kickers in his rookie season, converting just 13 of 20 field-goal attempts while costing the Patriots at least one game. He could get some opportunities with a modest matchup on tap, but he could also be factored out of the plan if the Patriots remain scarred by his misses through the first 14 weeks.
