History:
The CP Fantasy Football League was started in 1996. My name is Carl Phillips; I am the owner/commissioner
of the CPFFL. In the early 90?s when I was in school at the University of Southern Mississippi, Mark
Peterson (Pete) started up a fantasy football league. He made it easy enough so that it would not get too
complicated. So the league was formed to be a TD only league. The yardages, attempts, completions, missed
field goals, etc. was too much for young college students with their heads filled with hops and bong resin.
Also, instead of playing head to head weekly, the points winner from that week would win $ amounts.
Basically it was to keep everyone still trying at the end of the year. It was a great idea, but with kids
moving, graduating, or dropping out of school it was hard to keep it going. I moved back home to Miami, FL
(Home of the Miami Hurricanes), I got my brother and a few of our friends and we formed the CPFFL. I used
the same scoring method and rules that Pete had years before when we were at school. 1996 was the inaugural
year of CPFFL. We had 6 teams that year, and we had the draft at my house. Rob Melo was the 1st CP Fantasy
Football League Champion. It was also a fantasy football first for a few of the teams. In 1997, my co-
commissioner Paul Lederman (computer guru) was our next champion. A few things were added. The now coveted
CP Fantasy Football League Trophy was introduced. The trophy has all of our past winners on it and the
reigning champion gets to keep it for the year but they must bring it back for an appearance at the draft
party. The draft party was held at Grand Palms in the bar for the next few years. The next year, 1998, was
the first blow out that we had. Lou Melo, (brother of Rob) was the ?98 Champion. He won by over 200 points
and just ran away with the money and the coveted CPFFL trophy. In 1999, my brother John Phillips was the
next champion. He beat me by 10 %#$&@*! points, but that was the closest year that we have had so far.
There were four of us that were within 60 points of each other and John was the last one standing. Finally
year 2000 was upon us and we made it special. I decided to do the draft back at my house and do it up
right. I had it catered by a friend of mine that owns Jersey?s Wings and Raw Bar in Pembroke Pines, FL.
There was enough food and drink to go around. It was so much better than doing it at the bar. No background
music, TV, or other people that are not associated with the draft were not around, that made a big
difference. A few more additions were made to the point sheet. Yardage bonuses were given for key players
that made a lot of noise but not a lot of points or even no points. We had 11 teams in 2000 that?s the most
that we have had. It was destined to be a good year. David Goldstein my other co-commissioner blew away the
field by 303 points over 2nd place in cruised to victory. In the year 2001, we moved the draft party to
Jason's house (my future co-commissioner) and it was great. We could make as much noise as we wanted
because the house was out in west broward countyby horse ranches. Once again we had a new winner; first
year player Pete (yes the same that started the league back at school). He did not do anything special all
year. He didn't even win a damn week, he was just steady all year and got the "W". Once again I was in the
running and even lead the league for 14 out of 17 of the weeks and lost it in week 17. Anyways congrats to
Pete (Bama Fag). Pretty neat no 2 time winner. 2002 ended up being a great fantasy year and another
great'draft party at Jason's.'We'll not talk about my season at all. It was my worst year since I started
the league. JB was crowned the new champion and got to take home the hardware and the cash. He pretty much
wrapped up 1st place with a couple of weeks left, but the real battle was for 2nd and 3rd places. 7 points
separated second, third, and fourth places. Once again a first time winner. Still after 7 years there has
not been a repeat winner, and if I have anything to do with it it will stay like that. 2003 was another
close Fantasy Football year in the CPFFL. Team Lederman (Paul teaming up with his younger brother Joseph)
was our champion, with first year player Frankie coming in 2nd only 10 points behind. CPFFL veteran Thad
had his best finish in the league by coming in 3rd only 28 points behind Team Lederman. Followed by JB in
4th, Pete in 5th and me (CP) finishing in 6th. Since Paul had teamed up with his brother it did not count
as a repeat winner. Everybody is back this year and hopefully once again there will be another first time
winner in the CPFFL. Good Luck to all. 2004 became another awesome year in the CPFFL with another 1st time
winner. Michael became the 9th winner of the CPFFL in 2004 with myself (CP) coming in 2nd once more and my
brother John (former champion) coming in 3rd. This will be a special year in the CPFFL (2005) because it is
the 10th year for this kick ass league. We only have 10 teams this year, because Pete couldn't make it
(Hurricane Katrina). So good luck to everyone and hopefully we will have another 1st time winner in 2005.
2005 marked our 10th season of the CPFFL and after 10 years we finally got our 1st repeat champion. David
Goldstein was the 2005 CPFFL Champion. Pete was not able to make it this year because of Hurricane Katrina.
In the 11th year of the CPFFL I relinquished my duties as the Commish to Pedro. I wanted a break from being
in charge and that wont happen again. In his 1 year term we changed the format to head to head (verses
league). This was the first time we made a major decision in the league format and wanted to see if
everyone liked it. That was ok, but the draft party was not the caliber of what they were in the past, and
I think it was too much for him to deal with. Pete was back this year but couldn't make it down because of
Katrina but he did the draft over the phone. Anyways, we had our 2nd repeat champion in as many years.
Michael Furlong won the CPFFL Championship by defeating John in the Super Bowl. The 12th year was something
special at least for me. I became the 2007 CPFFL Champion. I defeated John/Karim in the Superbowl.'Jason
(co-comissioner) had the best team'with Brady and Moss' but John beat him in the semi-finals when neither
one of them scored. Finally, anyways it was alot of fun. Defending Champion Mike Furlong couldn't make the
draft party due other circumstances so he did it over the phone. I'm not a big fan of it but thats ok. I
like everyone to be there for the party but I understand. In our 13th year of the CPFFL we had yet another
first time winner and he was actually a rookie. This marks the first time we ever had a rook win. Phins 4
Life (Mitch) became the 2008 CPFFL Champion. Just like Pete back in 2001 Phins 4 Life was pretty quiet all
year not making too much noise and didn't even win a week and still came out beating Lights Out MoFo
(Frankie) in the Super Bowl. We had 10 teams this year with 2 rookies. One of course is our Champ Mitch and
the other being Porno Mike. We would have had the normal 12 teams but 2 teams couldn't make it. In 2009, we
got back to having 12 teams. Pat from JTs and Gator Keith became the newest members of the CPFFL. Yes thats
right we even let a Gator in the league. In the 14th year of the CPFFL JB became the leagues next 2-
time'Champion. We had the draft at JT's Sports Bar in Pembroke Pines. 2010 was a historic year in the CPFFL
because it was our 15th year and still going strong. Pat partnered up with Shawn from JT's for Team
Whateveas. Also, David and Mike Furlong joined forces to win the 15th CPFFL Championsip. Between the 2 of
them they have 5 Championships.'2 both individually and 1 as a team. Great job guys. Enjoy that big ass
target on yall's back. In 2011 for the 2nd year we had the draft at JT's Sports Bar.'The 16th year for the CPFFL
was remarkable because we had yet another first time winner. Congrats to Frankie for winning the league. Marky had the highest points this year.
The final four this year was Marky, me, John & Frankie and he took us all down.'His name is the last one to
be put on the original trophy, so we have to get a new bottom put on the trophy for the upcoming season.
Well we had to get a new bottom for the trophy and it looks great. John won his 2nd CPFFL Championship by
taking down Porno Mike who had an unbelievable team but so did John. John is the1st name on the new bottom
of the trophy. It was the 17th year of the CPFFL and it's one of the most successful leagues that I know
of. In our 18th year of the CPFFL Team Fishizzle (Jason Lavoie) finally won the league after 14 years of
being in the league. A well deserved win without winning a single week. Congrats to our co-comissioner.
2014 was the 19th year of the CPFFL and again the 2 Live Jews won it by beating Gator Keith by 2 points. What a game.
Todd's Replacement (Chris Cormier) had the most points and Ballers tied the most all-time points in a week with 199.
I don't know many leagues that have lasted 20 years but 2015 was it. The 20th year of the CPFFL.
We did our draft at Twin Peaks in Davie. Todd's Replacement won by 11 points over John who was going for his 3rd title but Chris won his first to
become the 20th CPFFL Champion. Yes, once again we have another 1st time winner. The Guinessmen lead the league in points. 2016 was an
incredible year for the CPFFL. In 2016 unbelievably I beat Frankie in the Super Bowl and became the next 2-time CPFFL Champion. I would like to
thank Tyreek Hill personally for helping me win the 21st CPFFL Championship. He scored 27+ points in 4 out of the last 5 weeks of football to propel
me to my 2nd championship. The 2 Live Jews had a great year and had the most points for the year. 2017 was the closest year we ever had everyone
had a chance to make the playoffs all the way until week 13. But in the end it was another year of the 1st time winners club with Porno Mike defeating
Chris in the Super Bowl and Pete winning the high points for the year. 2018 was upon us and it was a tough one for me. But we had another 2-time
winner in Chris. Changing his name constantly and ended up with the name Team Adderall for his 2nd win. For the 24th year of the CPFFL we have the 1st 3-time champion and yes it happened to be me. Once again I barely snuck into the playoffs and won it out. I had a good team in the end so that's all that matters. Pete (This one goes to 11) had the most points with 1887 league record. The 25th year was the year of Chris. He won the the league for the 3rd time (2nd 3-time winner), won 6 weeks, high points and week 17. All new CPFFL records.
In our 26th year of the league we had another first time winner with Marky. After 21 years of playing and winning the high points for the year for the 3rd time he finally got that monkey off his back and won the league. He even captured the triple crown. By winning the league, high points and won the last week. Congrats Marky. The 27th year was another first for our league. We actually had a tie. Usually we would have a tie breaker set up but the Bills and Bengals game got canceled due to the Damar Hamlin accident. So we couldn’t find a fair route so the only fair thing to do was to split the championship between CP and John. Both counts toward a win. CP becomes the first 4-time winner and John joins the 3-timers club. Basically, the league is the same as it was when Pete created it back in the early 90?s at school. With a few changes and additions to the league it gets better and better every year. This league has turned into one of the best leagues (expert league) that I have ever been involved with. We have 12 teams that are all former and current members of the CPFFL with a chance at the hardware, so we will see if we have another first time winner in the CPFFL.
Good Luck this football season. GO CANES
