Broncos DB Patrick Surtain II exits, re-enters Colts game with ankle injury

Sun Sep 14 5:48pm ET
Field Level Media

Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II left Sunday's game at Indianapolis in the second quarter with a left ankle injury but was able to return to the game with the ankle heavily taped.

Surtain, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, was hurt when he landed awkwardly on his left foot while covering Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr.

Surtain hobbled part of the way off the field before sitting down near the sideline. He was checked by trainers and walked off the field and to the medical tent with the help of trainers.

Surtain, in his fifth season after being taken with the ninth overall pick in the 2021 draft, had five tackles -- four solo -- before exiting the game. He tied a career high with four interceptions in 2024 and returned one of those 100 yards for a touchdown.

Starts, Sits, Sleepers: Week 2

Player Notes
Joe Burrow Sep 14 5:50pm ET
Joe Burrow

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (toe) is believed to have suffered turf toe during Sunday's Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to Jeremy Rauch of FOX 19. Burrow also suffered torn ligaments and is expected to miss several weeks. The former No. 1 pick exited during the first half and did not return. He finished Week 2 with seven completions, 76 yards, and one passing touchdown. With Burrow expected to miss significant time, Jake Browning will take over as the Bengals' primary quarterback. Browning led the Bengals to a victory Sunday, but it wasn't pretty as he threw three interceptions.

Malik Nabers Sep 14 5:30pm ET
Malik Nabers

New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers caught nine of his 13 targets for 167 yards and two touchdowns during Sunday's Week 2 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Nabers delivered two acrobatic touchdown grabs on deep passes from Russell Wilson, carrying his team to an overtime thriller before New York ultimately lost on a game-winning field goal. The former first-round pick has quickly developed a strong rapport with Russell Wilson, which should prove to be beneficial as the Giants throw the ball a lot while playing from behind. Nabers remains a high-end WR1 option heading into Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Joe Burrow Sep 14 5:27pm ET
Joe Burrow

Dynasty | Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow left Sunday's game early with a toe injury. Dynasty Analysis: Burrow was slow to get up after a sack and many thought he had some kind of high ankle sprain. Instead, he was ruled out with an apparent toe injury. If it's turf toe, this can be tricky and he could be in a similar boat as Brock Purdy and thus looking at a multi-week absence. It certainly didn't have the looks of a season-threatening ailment but stay tuned to see just how long he may be out. Jake Browning could make for a decent streamer in the meantime.

Quinshon Judkins Sep 14 5:27pm ET
Quinshon Judkins

Dynasty | Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins had 61 rushing yards, three catches and ten receiving yards in a loss to the Ravens. Dynasty Analysis: The Browns were manhandled by the Ravens but Judkins was one of the few bright spots for Cleveland on the day. He led the Browns running backs in terms of touches and looked like the best playmaker the Browns have. Expect his carries to increase as it looks like he's poised to pass Jerome Ford already. His rookie ranking will be on the rise but a possible suspension looms large.

David Njoku Sep 14 5:23pm ET
David Njoku

Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku posted four receptions for 40 yards on five targets in Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Spin: Njoku has had a couple of mediocre stat lines through the first two games. He has to contend with rookie Harold Fannin Jr., and it is hurting his fantasy value a bit. Right now, Njoku looks a lot more like a TE2 in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams than a must-start option, especially since the Cleveland QB play is mediocre, too.

Joe Burrow

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (toe) was seen wearing a boot and walking with crutches following Sunday's Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Burrow exited during the first half and did not return. He finished Week 2 with seven completions, 76 yards, and one passing touchdown. If the postgame scene is any indication, it appears the quarterback's injury is considered serious, and he could end up missing some time. If so, Jake Browning would take over as the Bengals' primary quarterback. Browning led the Bengals to a victory Sunday, but it wasn't pretty as he threw three interceptions. We'll likely get more information on Burrow's status after the team conducts additional medical testing.

Russell Wilson Sep 14 5:13pm ET
Russell Wilson

New York Giants QB Russell Wilson finished 30-of-41 for 450 yards and three touchdowns with one interception in Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys. Wilson also ran for 23 yards on three carries.

Fantasy Spin: What started as a field goal fest through 1 1/2 quarters quickly turned into a shootout. Wilson turned back the clock a few years against a shorthanded Dallas secondary, connecting on several deep balls - including 48 yards to Malik Nabers (TD), 50 yards to Wan'Dale Robinson and 52 yards to Darius Slayton. Wilson's only mistake was a costly one, as he threw one of his patented moon balls to no one in particular late in overtime. Nevertheless, he undoubtedly bought himself some more time as the starter ahead of rookie Jaxson Dart with this performance, although he remains no more than a fantasy QB2 in Week 3 versus the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jadeveon Clowney Sep 14 5:13pm ET
Jadeveon Clowney

Free-agent DE Jadeveon Clowney (Panthers) visited with the Dallas Cowboys, and owner and general manager Jerry Jones announced after the Week 2 game against the New York Giants that the veteran will be signing. Terms of the deal are undisclosed.

Joe Flacco Sep 14 4:53pm ET
Joe Flacco

Cleveland Browns QB Joe Flacco completed 25-of-45 passes for 199 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens, and he ran once for eight yards.

Fantasy Spin: Flacco was very mediocre against his former team, and it is par for the course, in terms of fantasy appeal. He should be treated as nothing more than a low-end QB2 in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams heading into Week 3 and beyond.

From TheHuddle

Tyrod Taylor Sep 14 4:53pm ET
Tyrod Taylor

New York Jets QB Tyrod Taylor went 7-for-11 for 56 yards and one touchdown against the Buffalo Bills in Week 2 after replacing QB Justin Fields (head). He also rushed for 21 yards on three carries during the game.

Fantasy Spin: Taylor may be the starting quarterback for the Jets in Week 3 depending on the status of Justin Fields, so fantasy players should keep an eye on the situation. Taylor has had some success during his career but will only be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he starts games.

From TheHuddle

Jonnu Smith Sep 14 4:43pm ET
Jonnu Smith

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Jonnu Smith ended up with four receptions for 27 yards on four targets in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Spin: Smith is battling incumbent veteran Pat Freiermuth for targets among the Pittsburgh tight ends, and right now it is essentially a 50-50 split, limiting the fantasy effectiveness of both players. For now, consider Smith as a high-end TE2 in most fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams.

From TheHuddle

Aaron Rodgers Sep 14 4:33pm ET
Aaron Rodgers

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers completed 18-of-33 passes for 203 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks. His TD to WR DK Metcalf was the 508th of his career, tying former teammate QB Brett Favre for fourth place all-time in the NFL in passing touchdowns.

Fantasy Spin: Rodgers rolled up some huge totals in Week 1 against his former team, the Jets, but he took a step back in Week 2, and he was a little more mistake-prone, too. This is why, despite his big showing in the opener, why he should continue to be treated as a QB2 in most fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams.

From TheHuddle

Justin Fields Sep 14 4:30pm ET
Justin Fields

New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields (head) has officially been diagnosed with a concussion following Sunday's Week 2 contest against the Buffalo Bills. He was taken to the locker room in the second half to be evaluated, leaving Tyrod Taylor as the Jets' primary option under center. Fields finished Sunday's game having completed three of 11 pass attempts for 27 yards through the air, and he also added 49 rushing yards. The Jets will have one week until their next game, which leaves very little time for Fields to recover and clear concussion protocol. If he can't get healthy in time, Taylor would be in line to start at quarterback against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Marlon Humphrey Sep 14 4:13pm ET
Marlon Humphrey

Baltimore Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey (groin) suffered a groin injury during the Week 2 game and is considered questionable to return.

From TheHuddle

Cooper Kupp Sep 14 4:13pm ET
Cooper Kupp

Seattle Seahawks WR Cooper Kupp pulled down seven balls for 90 yards on nine targets in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Spin: Kupp didn't have a great team debut in Week 1 against the 49ers, but he looked like himself in Week 2. Kupp remains a high-volume pass catcher and a tremendous PPR option in most fantasy leagues. He should be treated as a WR3 or flex fantasy option in standard play.

From TheHuddle

Josh Allen Sep 14 4:13pm ET
Josh Allen

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen went 14-for-25 for 148 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions against the New York Jets in Week 2. He also rushed for 59 yards on six carries during the game.

Fantasy Spin: Allen did not have to do much in the passing game because the team was having a lot of success in the running game, which hurt his fantasy value this week. He is still a weekly starting option in all fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Sam Darnold Sep 14 4:03pm ET
Sam Darnold

Seattle Seahawks QB Sam Darnold completed 22-of-33 passes for 295 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he did not have a rushing attempt.

Fantasy Spin: Darnold distributed the ball nicely, as Jaxon Smith-Njigba had eight grabs for 103 yards on 10 targets, Cooper Kupp had seven receptions for 90 yards on nine targets and rookie Tory Horton had his first NFL TD, and AJ Barner added a scoring grab. Darnold had a tough start in Week 1, but he looked very good on the road here. Still, treat him as more of a high-end QB2 in most fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams at this point.

From TheHuddle

Marcus Davenport Sep 14 3:53pm ET
Marcus Davenport

Detroit Lions DE Marcus Davenport (shoulder) suffered a shoulder injury during the Week 2 game and is considered questionable to return.

From TheHuddle

KaVontae Turpin Sep 14 3:50pm ET
KaVontae Turpin

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver KaVontae Turpin (neck) exited during the second half of Sunday's Week 2 contest against the New York Giants. He is officially questionable to return. He had been heavily involved prior to his departure, catching four passes for 47 yards and a touchdown, rushing for six yards, and returning four kicks for an additional 100 yards. Jalen Tolbert and Ryan Flournoy should pick up some of Turpin's offensive snaps until he can return. Tolbert will also handle Turpin's kick and punt return responsibilities.

From RotoBaller

Tyrod Taylor Sep 14 3:43pm ET
Tyrod Taylor

New York Jets QB Justin Fields (head) left the Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills due to possible head injury. He went to the medical tent, and then jogged off to the locker room. QB Tyrod Taylor has taken over under center. Fields left with the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant, which indicates a possible concussion.

Fantasy Spin: Fields is apparently in concussion protocol, since he jogged off, and left with the neurotrauma specialist. We'll update when more information becomes available.
