Saquon Barkley ninth player with 2,000-yard rushing season

Sun Dec 29 3:51pm ET
Field Level Media

Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley became the ninth player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a season on Sunday.

Barkley entered the game against the visiting Dallas Cowboys needing 162 yards to join the exclusive club.

He reached the milestone with a 23-yard run with about 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and Philadelphia leading 34-7. That gave him 167 for the day on 31 carries and 2,005 for the season.

With one game remaining, Barkley has a chance to break Eric Dickerson's NFL single-season record of 2,105 yards, set during a 16-game season in 1984.

In addition to Dickerson, the others to rush for 2,000 yards are Adrian Peterson, Jamal Lewis, Barry Sanders, Derrick Henry, Terrell Davis, Chris Johnson and O.J. Simpson.

With the Eagles locked into the No. 2 seed in the NFC, it's unclear whether Barkley will play in next weekend's regular-season finale against his former team, the New York Giants.

Barkley also broke LeSean McCoy's 2013 franchise record of 2,146 all-purpose yards.

Player Notes
Chase McLaughlin Dec 29 6:20pm CT
Chase McLaughlin

Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Chase McLaughlin saw a ton of work during Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers. McLaughlin was called upon for six extra point attempts and two field goals and he connected on all of them to make an eight-kick day for him. Fantasy managers who trusted McLaughlin saw a good result during Sunday's blowout win. The 28-year-old has been one of the more reliable kicking options this season. He continues to get plenty of chances with the way this Bucs offense is rolling right now. McLaughlin remains a strong streaming option for next week's matchup against the New Orleans Saints.

Courtland Sutton Dec 29 6:13pm CT
Courtland Sutton

Dynasty | Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims had eight catches for 103 yards and two touchdowns in a loss to the Bengals. Dynasty Analysis: Mims now has two different 100-yard efforts over the past four weeks and is quickly looking like the possible WR2 next to Courtland Sutton moving forward. With at least four targets in the past five games, he's also a lineup consideration for any leagues still playing next weekend. His dynasty value should creep up over the Spring and Summer.

Bo Nix Dec 29 6:13pm CT
Bo Nix

Dynasty | Broncos quarterback Bo Nix completed 24-of-31 passes for 219 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in a loss to the Bengals. Dynasty Analysis: There's no shame in losing to Joe Burrow, who has no problem generating points in football games. While Nix came out on the wrong side of things this week, he's been solid all year and now has 25 touchdown passes and just 12 interceptions as a rookie. It's clear the Broncos have found their guy and he's poised to take another step forward next season. While more a QB2 than QB1 at the moment, Nix should see his dynasty value rise a touch this off-season.

Joe Burrow Dec 29 6:13pm CT
Joe Burrow

Dynasty | Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow completed 39-of-49 passes for 412 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in a win against Denver. Dynasty Analysis: Burrow now has a whopping 4,641 passing yards with 42 touchdowns and just eight interceptions on the season. While he isn't likely going to win the MVP award with his team possibly out of the playoff race, few players are as important to their teams as he is. In dynasty leagues, he's clearly going to be valued as a top-5 quarterback asset this off-season.

Malik Nabers Dec 29 6:13pm CT
Malik Nabers

Dynasty | Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey had eight catches for 94 yards and two touchdowns in a blowout win over the Patriots. Dynasty Analysis: McConkey has been great all year and now has 77 catches for 1,054 yards and seven touchdowns on the season. While much of the talk coming out of the draft revolved around the likes of Marvin Harrison Jr, Malik Nabers, and Rome Odunze, McConkey has been a tremendous find for the Chargers and looks like a lineup lock in dynasty leagues moving forward. His dynasty value will do nothing but rise this off-season.

Brian Thomas Jr. Dec 29 6:13pm CT
Brian Thomas Jr.

Dynasty | Jaguars rookie receiver Brian Thomas Jr had seven catches for 91 yards and a touchdown in a win over Tennessee. Dynasty Analysis: Thomas ends the fantasy season with 80 catches (on 122 targets), 1,179 yards and ten touchdowns. It was quite the debut season for Thomas, who looks like an absolute steal as the likely third or fourth pick in rookie drafts this past Spring. A budding superstar at the position, BTJ should be a top-ten receiver when rankings are finalized going into next season.

Baker Mayfield Dec 29 6:13pm CT
Baker Mayfield

Dynasty | Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 27-of-32 passes for 359 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions in a win against the Panthers. Dynasty Analysis: Those are the kinds of numbers Mayfield used to put up at Oklahoma and very difficult to achieve in the NFL. Still, the quarterback Cleveland (and many others) didn't want is putting up a career season with 4,279 passing yards, 39 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. While the 15 interceptions are a little trouble, one must keep in mind he's thrown the ball a ridiculous 538 times already this season. Mayfield has been tremendous all year and anyone who started him today (which they should have as he's been an easy QB1 all year) are likely hoisting a league trophy. Mayfield's dynasty value will continue to rise after this one.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Sean Tucker Dec 29 6:13pm CT
Sean Tucker

Dynasty | Bucs running back Bucky Irving had 113 rushing yards, four catches and 77 receiving yards in a win over Carolina. Dynasty Analysis: Many realized Irving was Tampa Bay's best running back a couple of months ago and it seems clear the Bucs are in agreement. He had 20 carries today and while Sean Tucker and Rachaad White are still siphoning off some carries, Irving is clearly the best of the bunch and looks to be the long-term starter moving forward. Irving's dynasty value has risen more than just about any rookie this year and that shouldn't change this off-season.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Mike Evans Dec 29 6:13pm CT
Mike Evans

Dynasty | Bucs receiver Mike Evans caught eight passes for 97 yards and posted two touchdowns in a win over Carolina. Dynasty Analysis: This is going to get interesting. Evans has started his career with ten straight 1,000 yard seasons and now has a 65/915/11 line after playing in just 13 games. Tampa Bay is in a fight for the division, so it seems Evans will have a shot at making in 11 seasons in a row next week. He's been a WR1 again this season and the ageless wonder is showing few signs of slowing down.

Saquon Barkley Dec 29 6:13pm CT
Saquon Barkley

Dynasty | Eagles running back Saquon Barkley had 167 rushing yards in a win against Dallas. Dynasty Analysis: Barkley now has 2,005 rushing yards on the season, becoming just the ninth running back to even surpass 2,000 rushing yards. And now it gets interesting. If the Eagles have nothing to gain next week, it's hard to see them throwing Barkley in harm's way, despite him being just 100 yards short of the all-time NFL record. Regardless, Barkley has reclaimed his spot as a top-5 dynasty running back this season and has been simply dominant all season.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Rico Dowdle Dec 29 6:13pm CT
Rico Dowdle

Dynasty | Cowboys running back Rico Dowdle had 104 rushing yards in a loss to the Eagles. Dynasty Analysis: Dallas has been widely connected to running backs (notably Ashton Jeanty) in the upcoming NFL Draft, but Dowdle may be giving them some pause as he now has posted over 100 rushing yards in four of his last five games and passed 1,000 for the season with his effort today. Simply put, he's been solid ever since the Cowboys decided to make him their featured back. His dynasty value will be in flux until the NFL Draft and free agency are done.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Malik Nabers Dec 29 6:13pm CT
Malik Nabers

Dynasty | Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers had seven catches for 171 yards and two touchdowns in a win against the Colts. Dynasty Analysis: His career day puts him at 101/1,140/6 on the season. Nabers has been electric from day one and the thought of him playing on a team with a competent quarterback has to make dynasty managers salivate. Nabers is going to enter the off-season as a top-ten dynasty wide receiver and could even be seen as a top-5 option at the position. In short, he's a star.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Brock Bowers Dec 29 6:13pm CT
Brock Bowers

Dynasty | Raiders tight end Brock Bowers had seven catches for 77 yards in a win against the Saints. Dynasty Analysis: The Raiders are killing their draft slot with two straight wins and dynasty managers can blame Bowers, who is downright unstoppable. He now has the all-time record for catches by a rookie with 108 and his 1,144 receiving yards by a rookie tight end are now the all-time record as well. When you consider the yardage record was set 63 years ago and the catch record is for any pass catcher, not just a tight end, it's downright ludicrous. Bowers is the TE1 in dynasty leagues and it may stay that way for the better part of the next decade.

Michael Pittman Jr. Dec 29 6:10pm CT
Michael Pittman Jr.

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. set season highs in targets and receptions in Sunday's 45-33 loss to the Giants, hauling in nine of 10 targets for 109 yards and a score. With the Colts playing from behind all day, it was the intermediate-to-long-range pass catchers who benefitted from the unexpected game script as Indy tried to play catch-up. It was the fifth time in the last six games that the 27-year-old recorded at least seven targets and five receptions, but only the second time he's gone over 100 yards receiving all season, the other instance coming back in Week 4. With as poorly as this passing attack has looked, there are surely managers who saw this production on their bench, but for those who had the foresight to play the former second-round draft pick, he surely helped teams to fantasy championships. For anyone still playing next week or thinking about DFS options, the Colts get a favorable home matchup against the Jaguars, but monitor to see who is under center for the Colts as Joe Flacco will make the receivers better plays than if it is Anthony Richardson (back, foot).

From RotoBaller

Devin Culp Dec 29 6:10pm CT
Devin Culp

Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Devin Culp was able to make an impact on the field during Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers. The Bucs were without Cade Otton (knee), so Culp saw increased playing time. The rookie tight end hauled in three of his four targets for 53 yards in the win. This was the first time that Culp has been involved in the passing game this season. He finished with the third-most yardage in the receiving game during his Week 17 victory. Despite that, Culp is unlikely to carry much value going forward. Otton is going to be the starter once healthy and Culp will go back to being a depth option on this team.

From RotoBaller

Payne Durham Dec 29 6:10pm CT
Payne Durham

Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Payne Durham once again saw an expanded role with Cade Otton (knee) sidelined for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers. Last week, Durham hauled in five of his seven targets for 29 yards. This week, Durham didn't see as many targets, but he finished with two receptions on three targets for 36 yards and a touchdown in the win. Both Durham and Devin Culp saw increased roles with Otton on the sideline. Durham might be worth a look as a low-end TE2 if Otton remains out for next week's matchup against the New Orleans Saints.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling

New Orleans Saints WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling (chest) was targeted twice but failed to secure either vs. the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 17 on Sunday, Dec. 29. He took a hard hit late in the game and was treated by medical staff while down but managed to walk off on his own.

Fantasy Spin: Despite a rather favorable matchup ahead, MVS is not a playable commodity in all remaining playoff formats. He could serve as a weak punt play in DFS, provided he is available.

C.J. Uzomah Dec 29 6:03pm CT
C.J. Uzomah

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles TE C.J. Uzomah (abdomen) did not return to the Week 17 game against the Dallas Cowboys after exiting with an abdominal injury.

Jalen McMillan Dec 29 6:00pm CT
Jalen McMillan

Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie wide receiver Jalen McMillan continued his impressive late-season surge during Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers. The rookie wideout hauled in all five of his targets for 51 yards and two touchdowns in the win. McMillan now has six touchdowns over his last four games after having one total touchdown heading into Week 14. Fantasy managers are finally getting production out of the rookie wideout at the best time of the season. McMillan might sneak onto the WR2 radar for the Week 18 matchup against the New Orleans Saints.
