Steelers LB T.J. Watt (ankle) could play vs. Ravens this week

Mon Dec 16 4:57pm ET
Field Level Media

T.J. Watt is "walking around rather comfortably," and that assessment gives Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin reason to believe his All-Pro pass rusher will be available Saturday against the Baltimore Ravens.

Watt left Sunday's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and underwent tests on his left ankle. He did not return to the game, but Tomlin said the tests were promising, showing no long-term injury.

"But again, he's questionable with his ankle. We'll see where the roads lead us," Tomlin said.

Watt, 30, had two sacks in the game to bring his team-leading total this season to 11.5.

Watt had one sack and three total tackles in the Steelers' 18-16 win over the Ravens on Nov. 17.

Bender's Starts/Sits: Week 15

Player Notes
D'Andre Swift Dec 16 6:10pm CT
D'Andre Swift

Chicago Bears running back D'Andre Swift (groin) is officially active for the Monday night game against the division-rival Minnesota Vikings in Week 15 after he was listed as questionable coming into the contest. Swift missed practice on Thursday and Friday before returning to a limited session on Saturday. Roschon Johnson (concussion) is missing another game, so the 25-year-old Swift should handle lead-back duties for the Bears with Travis Homer and Darrynton Evans picking up the scraps left behind. Any fantasy managers that were brave enough to risk keeping Swift in their starting lineups will be starting him this evening. They'll be hoping for a much better performance than the last time he faced Minnesota on Nov. 24, when he had 13 carries for only 30 yards while catching three passes for 35 yards in an overtime loss. Swift will be an RB3/flex that could struggle if the Bears abandon the run.

Caleb Williams Dec 16 6:10pm CT
Caleb Williams

Minnesota Vikings cornerback Stephon Gilmore (hamstring) has been ruled out for Monday night's primetime divisional clash against the Chicago Bears. Despite being limited in practice on Saturday, Gilmore will miss his second straight game, as expected. Gilmore will now hope to heal up to potentially play in next week's game on the road in Seattle against the Seahawks. With the 34-year-old five-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro sitting on Monday night, look for Fabian Moreau to pick up extra snaps on defense at cornerback for the Vikes. Gilmore being out should be good news for Bears receivers DJ Moore, Keenan Allen and rookie Rome Odunze as they look to spring the upset in a hostile environment. Despite the Vikings defense missing Gilmore, they will be a strong fantasy play in Week 15 against a Bears offense that has been highly inconsistent under rookie QB Caleb Williams.

Geno Smith Dec 16 4:43pm CT
Geno Smith

Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith (knee) is still waiting on some test results on his injured knee, but head coach Mike Macdonald said Smith has a chance to play in Week 16.

Fantasy Spin: Smith has received good news so far regarding the injury, so fantasy players should keep an eye on his situation over the next few days. He will be a risky fantasy option if he is active for the game but could be a possible starting option in two-quarterback leagues.

Alvin Kamara Dec 16 4:33pm CT
Alvin Kamara

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara (groin) is scheduled to undergo more tests to determine the severity of his groin injury, according to interim head coach Darren Rizzi.

Fantasy Spin: Fantasy players will need to monitor the situation during the week to see if Kamara will be able to play in the Week 16 game. He is a weekly starting option in all leagues when healthy, but players should have other options ready in case he sits out.

Dallas Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence (foot) will not return to practice this week and will not be available for the Week 16 game, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.

Denver Broncos DE John Franklin-Myers (foot), DT D.J. Jones (finger) and CB Riley Moss (knee) did not participate in practice Monday, Dec. 16. CB Patrick Surtain II (ankle) fully participated in practice. The Broncos did not hold a practice Monday, Dec. 16, so the practice report is an estimation.

Los Angeles Chargers TE Will Dissly (shoulder), CB Cam Hart (concussion), CB Elijah Molden (knee) and DT Otito Ogbonnia (pelvis) did not participate in practice Monday, Dec. 16. CB Kristian Fulton (knee) and LB Denzel Perryman (groin) were limited during practice. The Chargers did not hold a practice Monday, so the practice report is an estimation.

Zach Ertz Dec 16 2:53pm CT
Zach Ertz

Washington Commanders TE Zach Ertz (concussion) is in the concussion protocol, head coach Dan Quinn said Monday, Dec. 16.

Fantasy Spin: Ertz played 25% of the snaps and recorded two receptions for 25 yards before exiting. While he would split time with John Bates, the replacement for Ertz in the passing game could be rookie Ben Sinnott, who ran the most routes in the tight end room. He doesn't have much value for fantasy even if Ertz misses time, but he is a name to monitor.

Diontae Johnson Dec 16 2:50pm CT
Diontae Johnson

The Baltimore Ravens announced on Monday that recently suspended wide receiver Diontae Johnson and the team have mutually agreed to excuse him from team activities this week. Johnson was suspended for the Week 15 win over the New York Giants due to conduct detrimental to the team when he refused to enter the Week 13 contest against the Philadelphia Eagles. The 28-year-old has been unhappy with his role in Baltimore since being acquired at the deadline from the Carolina Panthers and now is unlikely to play in Week 16 when the team takes on the division-rival Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday. In four games active with Baltimore, he has just one catch on five targets for six yards. Johnson should have been dropped from fantasy rosters long ago, and it remains to be seen if he'll even see the field again in 2024.

Sam Hubbard Dec 16 2:50pm CT
Sam Hubbard

Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Sam Hubbard (knee) suffered a PCL injury to his knee in Sunday's Week 15 win over the Tennessee Titans and will likely miss the rest of the season, according to sources. Hubbard has already been ruled out for the Week 16 contest against the division-rival Cleveland Browns, and he'll likely also miss the final two games of the season as well. The 29-year-old pass-rusher will at least go out on a high note in 2024 after scoring an offensive touchdown in Sunday's victory for the Bengals. Hubbard will finish his seventh season in the NFL (all in Cincinnati) with 41 tackles (25 solo), two sacks, nine QB hits, his first career interception and a forced fumble in 14 starts. Although Hubbard wasn't on the map in fantasy IDP leagues because of his lack of sacks, it's more bad news for an already bad Bengals defense.

Joe Burrow Dec 16 2:40pm CT
Joe Burrow

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (knee) didn't have any issues with his surgically repaired knee in the Week 15 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Burrow was wearing a sleeve on his knee in last Monday night's win over the Dallas Cowboys and dealt with some soreness after that game, but he was fine to play on Sunday against the Titans. The 28-year-old former first overall pick had a mixed bag in the victory, going 26-for-37 for 271 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. He also lost a fumble, but the Bengals defense forced six turnovers to help the team overcome a sloppy performance. Burrow fell just shy of his fifth straight game with at least 300 yards passing. Burrow leads the league in both yardage (3,977) and passing touchdowns (36). Despite throwing for only 181 yards in Week 7 against the Browns, he'll be a must-start QB1 against them in the rematch in Week 16.

Alec Pierce Dec 16 2:40pm CT
Alec Pierce

Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen said that wide receiver Alec Pierce (concussion) is in the league's concussion protocol after leaving Sunday's Week 15 loss to the Denver Broncos with a head injury. Pierce hit the ground hard in the first half while going after a deep ball and was later ruled out for the rest of the game with a concussion. The 24-year-old was targeted four times before his injury but failed to come down with any of them, giving any fantasy managers that started him a donut. Ashton Dulin (ankle) was inactive for the game, so rookie Adonai Mitchell played just shy of half of the offensive snaps. Mitchell didn't take advantage of Pierce's injury, failing to catch any of his four targets and also throwing a pick-six on a trick play in the fourth quarter. Pierce's status for Week 16 against the division-rival Tennessee Titans is now firmly up in the air.

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb (foot) will undergo surgery to repair the broken foot he suffered against the Kansas City Chiefs, head coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday, Dec. 16. No timeline for return was provided.

Joe Mixon Dec 16 2:23pm CT
Joe Mixon

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) is expected to be fine after playing through an ankle injury he suffered in the Week 15 win over the Miami Dolphins, head coach DeMeco Ryans said Monday, Dec. 16.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon didn't exit the game, but there was a scary moment when he was taken down from behind by a hip-drop tackle. Mixon missed three games earlier this season due to an ankle sprain he suffered from a hip-dorp tackle so this is something to at least keep an eye on.

David Montgomery Dec 16 2:20pm CT
David Montgomery

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell has confirmed that running back David Montgomery (knee) will undergo season-ending surgery on his knee. The 27-year-old tore his MCL in Sunday's 48-42 loss to the Buffalo Bills. "We're going to miss him," Campbell told reporters. Oof. Detroit has been marred by injuries this season, and they continue to accrue on both sides of the ball as defensive back Carlton Davis III (jaw) and defensive lineman Alim McNeill (knee) also picked up long-term injuries in Week 15. With Montgomery out, fellow running back Jahmyr Gibbs projects to shoulder most of the backfield touches. Additionally, at least one of his backfield mates Craig Reynolds and Sione Vaki, will see an elevated snap share moving forward. The Lions will line up against the Chicago Bears on the road in Week 16.

Jameis Winston Dec 16 2:13pm CT
Jameis Winston

Cleveland Browns QB Jameis Winston may not be the starter for the Week 16 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, and the team may turn to Dorian Thompson-Robinson, head coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday, Dec. 16.

Fantasy Spin: If Winston remains the starter, managers can look at him as a potential streaming option against the Bengals. However, if Thompson-Robinson is under center, he's likely a back-end QB2 at best.
