Patrick Mahomes (ankle) leaves Chiefs' latest win in fourth quarter

Sun Dec 15 4:41pm ET
Field Level Media

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes sustained an ankle injury in the fourth quarter of a 21-7 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday and was replaced by veteran signal-caller Carson Wentz.

Mahomes got caught up under Cleveland defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson after firing an incompletion with 7:57 left in the game. He hobbled off the field and had his ankle taped on the sideline before Kansas City said he was questionable to return.

However, Mahomes never did, finishing the day with 159 yards and two touchdowns on 19-for-38 passing.

Since the Chiefs were leading 21-7 at the time of the injury, it is unknown if Mahomes was really unable to continue playing or if Kansas City made the change under center for precautionary reasons.

Wentz threw only two passes, completing both for 20 yards.

In 14 games (all starts) this season, the 29-year-old Mahomes has completed 66.7 percent of his passes for 3,348 yards, 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

The Chiefs improved to 13-1 with the win on Sunday and have a busy schedule coming up. They will face the Houston Texans on Saturday, then travel to Pittsburgh for a meeting with the Steelers four days later.

Player Notes
Daniel Bellinger Dec 15 4:10pm CT
Daniel Bellinger

New York Giants tight end Daniel Bellinger turned in a steady performance in Sunday's 35-14 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Playing in his second game as the starting tight end following Theo Johnson's season-ending injury, Bellinger caught all three of his targets for 35 yards, including a 17-yard reception, and averaged 11.7 yards per catch. While his contributions were efficient, he was not a major factor in the red zone and did not record a touchdown. Bellinger finished the game with five fantasy points, providing a reliable but limited role in the Giants' struggling offense.

Chase Brown Dec 15 4:10pm CT
Chase Brown

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown ran for 97 yards off 25 carries while adding three catches for 16 yards in Sunday's victory over the Titans. He also scored two touchdowns. Without question, Brown continues to get it done for fantasy managers, finding the end zone at least once in nine of his previous 11 appearances. He'll look to keep it going in the Week 16 AFC North clash with the Browns, with Brown going for only 44 yards off 15 touches when Cincinnati made the trip to Cleveland back in October.

Lamar Jackson Dec 15 4:10pm CT
Lamar Jackson

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson posted an impressive five-touchdown performance during their blowout victory over the New York Giants. Jackson went 21-for-25 with 290 yards through the air and added 65 yards on six rushing attempts. Jackson's first score of the game came on a 13-yard strike to tight end Mark Andrews. In the second quarter, he found receiver Rashod Bateman twice, once on a 49-yard score and the other on a 20-yard pass. Then in the second half, Jackson threw his fourth and fifth scores of the game to receiver Devontez Walker and running back Justice Hill, respectively. This was his second time this season scoring at least five touchdowns in a single game. Fantasy managers should continue to view Jackson as a top-three option in all matchups for the remainder of the season. Next weekend, he has a tougher task ahead of him against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Mike Gesicki Dec 15 4:10pm CT
Mike Gesicki

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Mike Gesicki had three catches for 37 yards in Sunday's win over the Titans. The 29-year-old had three receptions for 24 yards in the Monday night victory over the Dallas Cowboys. While he played better in this one, it still wasn't good enough, especially for those in the hunt for a fantasy football championship. With his last trip to the end zone last occurring against the Raiders in early November, Gesicki will be tough to trust in the Week 16 AFC North clash with the Browns.

Tua Tagovailoa Dec 15 4:10pm CT
Tua Tagovailoa

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa completed 29 of 40 passes for 196 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions in their 20-12 loss to the Houston Texans. With a great matchup, Tagovailoa could not capitalize and cost his team with the three turnovers. The 196 passing yards and only one passing touchdown mark his lowest since Week 2 when he had to exit early against the Buffalo Bills. Before Week 15, the 26-year-old was playing some of the best football of his career and was at the top in several major quarterback stats the last several weeks. Miami's playoff hopes are little to none after the crushing loss, which brings head coach Mike McDaniels's record to 3-15 against teams with a winning record. He and the Miami offense will look to rebound in Week 16 when the San Francisco 49ers come to town.

Patrick Mahomes Dec 15 4:00pm CT
Patrick Mahomes

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said that quarterback Patrick Mahomes (ankle) is experiencing soreness following Sunday's Week 15 win over the Cleveland Browns. The good news, however, is that Mahomes did not fracture any bones. The superstar quarterback suffered the injury while being tackled during the second half. He was replaced by Carson Wentz and did not return to the contest. In the win, Mahomes completed just 19 of 38 pass attempts (50 percent) for 159 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He also rushed for 14 yards. Fantasy managers should stay tuned for additional updates from the Chiefs over the next week, starting with Tuesday's injury report. Mahomes has less than one week to get healthy before Kansas City takes on the Houston Texans next Saturday.

Tee Higgins Dec 15 4:00pm CT
Tee Higgins

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins had five catches for 88 yards in Sunday's much-needed win over the Titans. He also scored, finding the end zone off of a 38-yard throw from Joe Burrow in the second quarter. The wideout was quiet in the Monday night win over the Cowboys. Fortunately, especially for those competing for a fantasy football title, he had a quality outing. With Cincinnati still in the hunt for a postseason berth, Higgins and the Bengals will host the Browns in Week 16, with the 25-year-old amassing four grabs for 82 yards and a touchdown when these teams met in October.

Wan'Dale Robinson Dec 15 4:00pm CT
Wan'Dale Robinson

New York Giants wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson had a quiet performance in Sunday's 35-14 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Robinson caught four of his nine targets for 38 yards, with his 25-yard grab standing out as the team's longest reception of the game. He finished second on the team in receptions and yards, behind Malik Nabers, who tallied 10 catches for 82 yards and a touchdown. While Robinson's involvement in the passing game was steady, his lack of scoring and limited yardage capped his impact, resulting in just 5.8 fantasy points in the loss.

Malik Nabers Dec 15 3:50pm CT
Malik Nabers

New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers was a bright spot in Sunday's 35-14 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, showcasing his talent despite the team's struggles. Nabers hauled in 10 of 14 targets for 82 yards and a touchdown, including a 23-yard reception, averaging 8.2 yards per catch. Even with Tim Boyle, the fourth quarterback to play for the Giants this season, taking over in the second half, Nabers maintained his outstanding form and was a reliable target throughout the game. His ability to produce in a challenging offensive environment underlined his growing importance to the Giants' passing attack, and he finished the day with an impressive 19.2 fantasy points.

Dyami Brown Dec 15 3:50pm CT
Dyami Brown

Washington Commanders wide receiver Dyami Brown brought in three of his four targets for 30 yards during their victory over the New Orleans Saints. With Noah Brown (kidney) on the IR, Brown saw increased opportunities this weekend and was able to make the most of them. He tied for the second-highest in targets alongside Olamide Zaccheaus and finished with the third-most receiving yards. Tight end Zach Ertz (concussion) also left the game early, which opened up even more opportunities for Brown. Fantasy managers should continue monitoring Brown's usage next weekend as he could be a viable desperation flex play during the final weeks of the season given the current state of the Washington wide receiver room outside of Terry McLaurin. He has a great matchup facing the Eagles, who have allowed the seventh-most PPR points to opposing wideouts, which could set him up for a breakout showing.

Dalton Schultz Dec 15 3:50pm CT
Dalton Schultz

Houston Texans tight end Dalton Schultz was targeted four times Sunday against Miami, but finished with just two catches for 13 yards in a 20-13 victory. It was the tight end's second-lowest output of the season after being held to 11 receiving yards against Minnesota in Week 3. In this one, however, every other Texans skill player was in the same boat as Schultz, as the team gained only 181 total yards. The veteran tight end has now finished in the top 10 at his position once in 14 weeks. He and the Texans will look for a more productive day at Kansas City in Week 16.

Ja'Marr Chase Dec 15 3:50pm CT
Ja'Marr Chase

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase had nine catches for 94 yards in Sunday's win over the Titans. The former LSU Tiger had eight touchdowns in his four appearances leading up to Week 15. While he didn't find the end zone in this one, he still had a quality showing, especially for those participating in PPR formats. With the Bengals still alive for the postseason, Chase and company will host the Browns in Week 16, with the wideout catching five passes for 55 yards and a touchdown when these clubs met back in October.

Nick Chubb Dec 15 3:40pm CT
Nick Chubb

Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb has been diagnosed with a broken left foot and is done for the season, according to head coach Kevin Stefanski. Chubb suffered the injury during the second half of Sunday's Week 15 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He was seen wearing a boot on his left foot and walking with crutches after the game ended. The veteran running back rushed nine times for 41 yards on the ground this week. He did not catch a pass, but he did have a brutal drop that turned into a Chiefs interception. Chubb finishes the 2024 campaign with 332 rushing yards, 31 receiving yards, and four total touchdowns. It was an underwhelming year for the 28-year-old, who returned from his serious knee injury in the middle of the season and never really looked like his old self. He had the most inefficient season of his career, averaging just 3.3 yards per carry. Jerome Ford will step up as Cleveland's No. 1 running back for the rest of the season.

Terry McLaurin Dec 15 3:40pm CT
Terry McLaurin

Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin caught seven of his 10 targets for 73 yards and two touchdowns during their victory over the New Orleans Saints. McLaurin's first score of the game came on a three-yard reception in the first quarter. Then in the second quarter, McLaurin found the back of the end zone on a 16-yard reception. McLaurin's 10 targets were six more than any other Washington pass-catcher. His 73 yards also paced all Washington wideouts. This game extended McLaurin's touchdown streak to three games and his multi-touchdown streak to two. Given his abilities in the red zone and high target share, fantasy managers should feel confident viewing McLaurin as a high-end WR1 during the remainder of the season. He will face the Philadelphia Eagles next weekend, who have allowed the seventh-most PPR points to opposing wideouts.

Joe Mixon Dec 15 3:40pm CT
Joe Mixon

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon gained only 23 rushing yards on 12 carries on Sunday in a 20-13 victory against the Miami Dolphins, but managed to salvage some fantasy value by catching five passes on six targets for 33 yards. The entire Houston offense compiled just 181 total yards in the game, so the veteran running back actually led the team in receiving and tied with wide receiver Nico Collins for the most targets. In the end, though, it was just enough for Houston to improve to 9-5 on the season. Mixon and the Texans will have a slightly short week in Week 16 when they travel to Kansas City on Saturday.

Joe Burrow Dec 15 3:40pm CT
Joe Burrow

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow threw for 271 yards, three touchdowns, and two picks off 26-for-37 passing in Sunday's win over the Titans. It wasn't the prettiest showing from the signal-caller, who also had a fumble. But it was still good enough for Burrow to finish with his sixth-straight game with at least three touchdown tosses. More importantly, his efforts resulted in another win, which bolstered the Bengals playoff chances while helping those competing for a fantasy football championship. Fresh off another victory, Burrow and the Bengals will look to keep it going against the Browns in Week 16, with the former LSU Tiger throwing for 181 yards and two scores when these clubs met back in October.

Olamide Zaccheaus Dec 15 3:40pm CT
Olamide Zaccheaus

Washington Commanders wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus caught three of his four targets for 36 yards during their victory over the New Orleans Saints. Zaccheaus also found the end zone on the game's opening drive, but the play was called back due to a penalty. Zaccheaus' four targets tied him for the second-highest on the team alongside Dyami Brown. However, tight end Zach Ertz (concussion) left the game in the first half with a concussion, which opened up more opportunities for Zaccheaus late in the game. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Ertz's status, as this could open up a stable role for Zaccheaus. In addition, with Noah Brown (kidney) on the IR, the No.2 spot on the depth chart is currently open. Zaccheaus will look to have another solid showing next weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Tank Dell Dec 15 3:40pm CT
Tank Dell

Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell drew only two targets Sunday against Miami, catching both for a total of 26 yards in the 20-13 win. He also ran once for 15 yards, bringing his yardage total to 41 on the day. Dell certainly wasn't alone in having a meager performance, as Houston gained 181 total yards as a team. Unfortunately for managers who started the second-year receiver, fellow receiver Nico Collins caught both of Houston's touchdowns despite finishing with 17 receiving yards on four catches. The Texans face a bigger test in Week 16 when they travel to play Kansas City on Saturday.

Jayden Daniels Dec 15 3:30pm CT
Jayden Daniels

Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels went 25-for-31 with 226 yards and two scores during the victory over the New Orleans Saints. Daniels added 66 yards on 11 rushing attempts. The Commanders got out to a hot start as Daniels found Terry McLaurin for two touchdowns in the opening half. However, during the second half, Daniels and the Commanders had trouble moving downfield and were only able to put up points via two field goals. While the LSU product was on pace to enjoy a big game, he still produced a solid outing for fantasy managers. Over his previous three contests, Daniels has tallied two passing scores in each contest. Next weekend, he will host the Philadelphia Eagles, who have allowed the second-fewest PPR points to oppose QBs.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson Dec 15 3:30pm CT
Dorian Thompson-Robinson

Cleveland Browns quarterback Jameis Winston was benched and replaced by Dorian Thompson-Robinson during the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. An ugly performance by Winston and his undisputed tendency to turn over the football prompted the Browns' coaching staff to make a quarterback change in the final minutes of Week 15. Winston completed just 16 of his 25 pass attempts for 146 yards, zero touchdowns, and three interceptions. He also took five sacks and lost two yards rushing. Furthermore, the veteran quarterback fumbled, but he recovered the loose ball himself. In his brief appearance leading the offense, Thompson-Robinson didn't fare much better, completing four of nine passes for 18 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception. He did demonstrate a little more mobility than Winston, adding 18 rushing yards on three attempts. Fantasy managers should stay tuned for updates on the Browns' quarterback position, as it appears the competition for the starting role has been re-opened.
