Bengals K Evan McPherson (groin) sidelined; Cade York added

Wed Dec 4 3:05pm ET
Field Level Media

Cincinnati Bengals kicker Evan McPherson will miss a few weeks due to a groin injury, while kicker Cade York was added to the practice squad, NFL Network reported Wednesday.

McPherson, 25, made his lone field-goal attempt of 38 yards and all five extra-point attempts on Sunday in a 44-38 home loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is 16 of 22 (72.7 percent) on field-goal attempts this season with a long of 56 yards.

The Bengals selected McPherson in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He is 94 of 115 on field goals (81.7 percent) with a long of 59 yards in 61 career regular-season games. He has made 163 of 170 extra points (95.9 percent).

York, 23, was a fourth-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in the 2022 draft. He kicked in 17 games in 2022, making 24 of 32 field-goal attempts (75 percent) and 35 of 37 extra points (94.6 percent).

The Browns released him in August 2023 and he spent time with the Tennessee Titans and New York Giants in 2023 without appearing in a game. The Browns signed York in March and traded him to the Washington Commanders on Aug. 22 for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2025. He missed both field-goal attempts and made two extra points in the season-opening loss at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before his release on Sept. 9.

Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 14

Player Notes
D.J. Moore Dec 4 2:10pm CT
D.J. Moore

Chicago Bears wide receivers DJ Moore (quadriceps) and Keenan Allen (ankle) were both listed as non-participants on Wednesday for the team's first practice of the week. The Bears played last Thursday on Thanksgiving in the loss to the division-rival Detroit Lions, so they'll have extra time to heal heading into Sunday's Week 14 game against the San Francisco 49ers. However, Moore and Allen will be worth watching the next few days to see if they are just being rested or if their injuries are serious. Both wideouts had big games in Week 13, with Moore catching eight passes (16 targets) for 97 yards and one touchdown, and Allen going for a 5-73-1 line on eight targets. If one or both of Moore and/or Allen are in danger of missing Sunday's contest against the Niners, rookie Rome Odunze would have clear WR2 upside in fantasy.

Sauce Gardner Dec 4 2:00pm CT
Sauce Gardner

New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner (hamstring) is not practicing on Wednesday as he deals with a hamstring injury. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said the 2022 first-round pick will not play against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday if he is not 100% healthy. The two-time first-team All-Pro has not missed a game this season, but the team is likely to be cautious with its young star players down the stretch considering the playoffs are unlikely after a 3-9 start. His potential absence from the lineup could be a positive for Miami wideouts Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

DeVonta Smith Dec 4 1:40pm CT
DeVonta Smith

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith (hamstring) is practicing on Wednesday. The former first-round pick has missed each of the last two games with a hamstring injury, but he did log limited practice sessions on Thursday and Friday last week. The Slim Reaper has hauled in 41 passes for 516 yards and four touchdowns this season, but he has three missed games and three games under five half-PPR fantasy points. If Smith returns this Sunday to face the Carolina Panthers, he has a boom-or-bust outlook in a game Philadelphia should dominate and control on the ground. That said, tight end Dallas Goedert (knee) could be out of action, which enhances Smith's fantasy floor and ceiling.

Dallas Goedert Dec 4 1:40pm CT
Dallas Goedert

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert (knee) is not practicing on Wednesday after suffering a knee injury in the Week 13 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Goedert has already missed three games this season and could be trending toward another absence. The 29-year-old has hauled in 38 passes for 441 yards and two touchdowns this year, but he has only produced more than 10 half-PPR fantasy points in two of his nine games. With DeVonta Smith (hamstring) potentially returning to face the Carolina Panthers in Week 13, Philly might opt to be extra cautious with its star tight end. If he does not play, Grant Calcaterra is a potential deep-league streaming option against a Carolina defense that has allowed the most fantasy points per game to tight ends.

Breece Hall Dec 4 1:30pm CT
Breece Hall

New York Jets running back Breece Hall (knee) is not practicing on Wednesday to begin preparation for the Week 14 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. Hall is dealing with a knee injury, and interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich is not sure if he will play on Sunday. It's worth noting Hall did not practice on Wednesday last week but still played against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 13. He registered 12 carries for 60 yards but did not catch a pass. Hall and Braelon Allen fantasy managers should continue to follow Hall's status through the end of the week. The Dolphins have surrendered the 11th-most fantasy points per game to running backs, so either player could be in for a solid day for the last week of the fantasy football regular season.

Jalen Coker Dec 4 1:20pm CT
Jalen Coker

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Jalen Coker (quad), who missed the last two games with a quad injury, was a full participant in practice on Wednesday. The rookie earned 17 targets over his previous three active games, which made him a fantasy football sleeper. However, his fantasy value when he returns to action could be limited following the return of Adam Thielen, who totaled 99 yards in last week's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If Coker can play on Sunday, he's best left on the bench or waiver wire against a Philadelphia Eagles defense that has allowed the fifth-fewest fantasy points per game to wide receivers. That said, he remains an intriguing dynasty league stash and potential DFS value down the stretch.

Cade York Dec 4 12:40pm CT
Cade York

The Cincinnati Bengals settled on former Cleveland Browns and Washington Commanders kicker Cade York after working out several kickers on Wednesday, according to sources. The Bengals are signing York with kicker Evan McPherson (groin) expected to miss a few weeks due to injury. York appeared in one game for Washington back on Sept. 8 in the Week 1 regular-season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and made one of his two field-goal tries and both of his extra points. The 23-year-old was drafted in the fourth round in 2022 out of LSU by the Cleveland Browns, but he made only 75% of his 32 field-goal attempts in his rookie season and the Browns moved on. The Bengals should be able to put up points on Monday night in Week 14 against the Dallas Cowboys, but York will be a pretty shaky streaming option in deeper fantasy leagues.

Micah Hyde Dec 4 12:40pm CT
Micah Hyde

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott announced on Wednesday that the team signed free-agent safety Micah Hyde to their practice squad. Hyde will return to the team that he played for from 2017 to 2023 after not signing with another team in free agency for the 2024 campaign. He was a Pro Bowler in his first year in Buffalo back in 2017 and made 14 starts for them a year ago, accumulating 54 tackles (37 solo), two interceptions and seven pass breakups. The 33-year-old veteran defensive back will work his way back into shape on Buffalo's practice squad for now as safety depth, but it remains to be seen how much of a role he'll have in his reunion with the Bills for the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs.

Theo Johnson Dec 4 12:30pm CT
Theo Johnson

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll said on Wednesday that rookie tight end Theo Johnson (foot), who was placed on season-ending Injured Reserve this week, had surgery for a Lisfranc injury to his foot. Johnson was injured in last Thursday's loss to the division-rival Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving and will now look to get healthy this offseason as he heads into his sophomore season. The 23-year-old fourth-rounder finishes his first year in the NFL with 29 receptions for 331 yards and one touchdown in 12 games. Johnson was just starting to get more involved as a pass-catcher for the Giants before his injury and he's an interesting dynasty/keeper hold, although New York's situation at quarterback may hold him back in future years. For the rest of 2024, Daniel Bellinger figures to be New York's primary pass-catching TE, but he'll be a TE2, at best, in fantasy.

Evan McPherson Dec 4 12:30pm CT
Evan McPherson

Cincinnati Bengals kicker Evan McPherson (groin) is expected to miss several weeks due to a groin injury, according to sources. McPherson's injury isn't season-ending and won't require surgery, but he's going to miss some time for the Bengals. Obviously, fantasy managers still in the running for a championship will have to move on from McPherson heading into a Week 14 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football. Cincy is bringing in former Browns and Commanders kicker Cade York to fill in for McPherson while he rehabs his groin injury. In 12 games in 2024, McPherson has been the No. 17 kicker in terms of overall fantasy points with 16 makes on 22 field-goal tries. He has missed just one of his 38 extra-point attempts. The Bengals' offense could put up plenty of points on Monday in Dallas, making York a streaming consideration in deeper fantasy leagues.

Spencer Shrader Dec 4 12:20pm CT
Spencer Shrader

The Kansas City Chiefs placed kicker Spencer Shrader (hamstring) on Injured Reserve on Wednesday and signed kicker Matthew Wright to the 53-man active roster in a corresponding move. Shrader will be required to miss at least the next four games, meaning he won't be eligible to return until the Week 18 regular-season finale in Denver against the division-rival Broncos. Shrader was initially signed when the team put regular kicker Harrison Butker (knee) on IR, but he only made it two games with the Chiefs before getting injured himself. Butker will be eligible to come off IR in Week 15 to face the Cleveland Browns, so Wright could only stick around in KC for another week. Last week in the win over the Raiders, Wright made four of his five field-goal attempts and his only extra point. He'll be on the streaming radar on Sunday night against the Chargers in fantasy.

Baker Mayfield Dec 4 12:10pm CT
Baker Mayfield

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said that quarterback Baker Mayfield (leg) would have been a full participant on Wednesday if the team held a full practice. The team conducted a light walkthrough session for the first practice of the week. Mayfield went down in pain in the Week 13 overtime win over the division-rival Carolina Panthers on Sunday when he was cleated in his right leg. The 29-year-old briefly left the game but returned to lead the team to a win in overtime, and the Bucs expect him to be just fine to play this Sunday against the visiting Las Vegas Raiders. Fantasy managers were a bit disappointed with his showing against Carolina, as he threw for only 235 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions, but he has a great matchup upcoming and will have QB1 upside against the Raiders.

Josh Jacobs Dec 4 12:00pm CT
Josh Jacobs

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport says that Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs' calf injury is something that he dealt with in the past this season, and it's more of a nagging issue more than anything. Although Jacobs popped up on the Week 14 injury report and was listed as limited in practice on Monday and Tuesday, there's not much cause for concern. Jacobs could get back to a full practice on Wednesday and be removed from the final injury report altogether. Even if he's listed as questionable for Thursday night's big divisional contest against the Detroit Lions, we'd expect Jacobs to be ready to play while handling his normal lead-back role in the Packers' backfield. The Lions aren't the greatest matchup for an opposing RB, especially at Ford Field, but Jacobs has had enough volume in 2024 to be considered a low-end RB1/high-end RB2 this week.

Keon Coleman Dec 4 11:40am CT
Keon Coleman

Buffalo Bills wide receivers Keon Coleman (wrist) and Curtis Samuel (undisclosed) will both be limited in Wednesday's walkthrough practice. Coleman hasn't suited up for a game since Week 9 but was limited in all three practices last week and appears to be nearing a return, possibly this Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. When the 21-year-old second-rounder does return, he should be back in starting three-wide sets with Amari Cooper and Khalil Shakir. In his first nine NFL games, Coleman has 22 receptions on 36 targets for 417 yards and three touchdowns, which has made him a WR4/flex option for fantasy managers when he's healthy. It's unknown what exactly Samuel is dealing with, but he's only a bench option in deeper fantasy leagues, especially if Coleman returns in Week 14. Samuel rushed once for seven yards in the Week 13 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

Drew Lock Dec 4 11:40am CT
Drew Lock

The New York Giants are planning to give quarterback Drew Lock a second straight start this Sunday in Week 14 against the New Orleans Saints, according to head coach Brian Daboll. Tommy DeVito (forearm) will be limited in practice on Wednesday. Lock got the start over the injured DeVito in the Thanksgiving Day loss to the division-rival Dallas Cowboys last Thursday and didn't impress at all in his first start for the G-Men, going 21-for-32 for 178 yards, no touchdowns, an interception (pick-six) and a fumble. However, he did carry the ball four times for 57 yards and a rushing TD to save his fantasy stat line. The 28-year-old might just be keeping the seat warm under center until DeVito gets past his right-forearm injury. Against the Saints defense this weekend, Lock will be nothing more than a low-end QB2 for fantasy managers in superflex leagues.

C.J. Uzomah Dec 4 11:30am CT
C.J. Uzomah

The Philadelphia Eagles announced on Wednesday that they signed tight end C.J. Uzomah to the 53-man active roster and signed wide receiver Parris Campbell to their practice squad. The move to add Uzomah to the active roster comes after starting tight end Dallas Goedert (knee) suffered a knee injury in the Week 13 win over the Baltimore Ravens that has him listed as week-to-week moving forward. The 31-year-old veteran tight end has been brought up from the practice squad in each of the last three games but hasn't been targeted at all in the passing game. If Goedert is inactive for Week 14 against the visiting Carolina Panthers this Sunday, it will likely be Grant Calcaterra that fantasy managers should consider streaming as a TE2 sleeper in fantasy, not Uzomah. The move to bring Uzomah up is a sign that the Eagles don't plan on having Goedert available this week.

Dalton Kincaid Dec 4 11:30am CT
Dalton Kincaid

Buffalo Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid (knee) will be limited in the team's first practice of the week on Wednesday, as will fellow TE Quintin Morris (undisclosed). Kincaid was held out for a second straight game in the Week 13 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night, but the 25-year-old is improving and could make his return this Sunday on the road in Los Angeles against the Rams. We'll have a better idea of Kincaid's availability for this weekend after the Bills hold two more practices on Thursday and Friday. Dawson Knox has been stream-worthy the last two weeks in fantasy with Kincaid out, as he caught six of eight targets for 96 yards in wins over the 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs. Kincaid hasn't had the second-year breakout that many were expecting in 2024, as he's averaged just 6.5 half-PPR points in 10 games, which is tied for 23rd among all tight ends.

Bailey Zappe Dec 4 11:20am CT
Bailey Zappe

The Cleveland Browns announced on Wednesday that they re-signed free-agent quarterback Bailey Zappe and waived wide receiver Jaelon Darden in a corresponding move. Zappe returns to the Browns after they just cut him on Monday. Now that he's back on the 53-man active roster, he will return to a QB3 role behind starter Jameis Winston and Dorian Thompson-Robinson with Deshaun Watson (Achilles) out for the season. The 25-year-old former fourth-round selection by the New England Patriots in 2022 out of Western Kentucky has played in 14 NFL games (eight starts), which all came with the Patriots the last two seasons, and he's completed 63.2% of his pass attempts for 2,053 yards, 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Zappe can continue to be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Trevor Lawrence Dec 4 11:10am CT
Trevor Lawrence

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said that quarterback Trevor Lawrence (concussion) remains in the league's concussion protocol and will not practice on Wednesday. It doesn't come as much of a surprise, as Pederson said earlier this week that the team still hasn't decided if Lawrence will even be able to play again in the final five weeks of the season after suffering a scary concussion in the Week 13 loss to the division-rival Houston Texans on an illegal hit by linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair. The 25-year-old former first overall pick stayed down on the ground for a while and had to be carted off the field. Especially at 2-10 on the year, the Jaguars have no incentive to rush their franchise signal-caller back, so Mac Jones is likely to make his third start of the year this Sunday versus the division-rival Tennessee Titans. In addition to a concussion, Lawrence played through a sprained AC joint in his left (non-throwing) shoulder last weekend.

Allen Lazard Dec 4 11:10am CT
Allen Lazard

The New York Jets are opening the 21-day practice window on Wednesday for wide receiver Allen Lazard (chest) to return from Injured Reserve. Lazard will return to practice for the first time since going on IR with a chest injury, and he'll be eligible to be activated and play this Sunday against the division-rival Miami Dolphins on Sunday. However, the 28-year-old isn't a guarantee to be activated by this weekend if he isn't able to do enough in practice this week to convince the coaching staff to put him out there. Lazard is a favorite target of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but since his injury, the Jets added All-Pro wideout Davante Adams, which will make Lazard a whole lot less interesting for fantasy managers when he returns. Before his injury, Lazard had 30 catches on 44 targets for 412 yards and five touchdowns in seven games. He should eventually settle in as the team's No. 3 wideout.
