Saquon Barkley ninth player with 2,000-yard rushing season

Sun Dec 29 3:51pm ET
Field Level Media

Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley became the ninth player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a season on Sunday.

Barkley entered the game against the visiting Dallas Cowboys needing 162 yards to join the exclusive club.

He reached the milestone with a 23-yard run with about 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and Philadelphia leading 34-7. That gave him 167 for the day on 31 carries and 2,005 for the season.

With one game remaining, Barkley has a chance to break Eric Dickerson's NFL single-season record of 2,105 yards, set during a 16-game season in 1984.

In addition to Dickerson, the others to rush for 2,000 yards are Adrian Peterson, Jamal Lewis, Barry Sanders, Derrick Henry, Terrell Davis, Chris Johnson and O.J. Simpson.

With the Eagles locked into the No. 2 seed in the NFC, it's unclear whether Barkley will play in next weekend's regular-season finale against his former team, the New York Giants.

Barkley also broke LeSean McCoy's 2013 franchise record of 2,146 all-purpose yards.

Bender's Starts/Sits: Week 17

Player Notes
Marvin Mims Dec 29 7:03pm CT
Marvin Mims

Dynasty | Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims had eight catches for 103 yards and two touchdowns in a loss to the Bengals. Dynasty Analysis: Mims now has two different 100-yard efforts over the past four weeks and is quickly looking like the possible WR2 next to Courtland Sutton moving forward. With at least four targets in the past five games, he's also a lineup consideration for any leagues still playing next weekend. His dynasty value should creep up over the Spring and Summer.

Ladd McConkey Dec 29 7:03pm CT
Ladd McConkey

Dynasty | Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey had eight catches for 94 yards and two touchdowns in a blowout win over the Patriots. Dynasty Analysis: McConkey has been great all year and now has 77 catches for 1,054 yards and seven touchdowns on the season. While much of the talk coming out of the draft revolved around the likes of Marvin Harrison Jr, Malik Nabers, and Rome Odunze, McConkey has been a tremendous find for the Chargers and looks like a lineup lock in dynasty leagues moving forward. His dynasty value will do nothing but rise this off-season.

Trey McBride Dec 29 7:03pm CT
Trey McBride

Dynasty | Cardinals tight end Trey McBride had 12 catches for 123 yards and a touchdown in a loss to the Rams. Dynasty Analysis: McBride's touchdown reception was amazingly his first of the year. However, few dynasty managers are going to complain much about his 104 catches and 1,081 receiving yards on the season. If not for Brock Bowers, McBride would be the overall TE1 in dynasty leagues after he's done nothing but improve after his breakout season last year.

Marvin Harrison Jr. Dec 29 7:03pm CT
Marvin Harrison Jr.

Dynasty | Cardinals rookie receiver Marvin Harrison Jr caught six passes for 96 yards in a loss to the Rams. Dynasty Analysis: Harrison has a respectable 57/822/7 line on the season, but has been overshadowed by fellow rookies Brock Bowers, Malik Nabers, Ladd McConkey, and Brian Thomas Jr. who have all surpassed 1,000 yards receiving already. Harrison has simply been good, but not special and that's a significant concern for anyone who took him at the top of 2024 Rookie Drafts. He'll need to take a step forward next season to justify staying towards the top of the recevier rankings.

Aaron Jones Dec 29 7:00pm CT
Aaron Jones

Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones handled 12 carries for 47 yards in his team's 27-25 win against the Minnesota Vikings. He chipped in another 30 yards on 4-of-5 receiving. The eighth-year pro was effective when he touched the ball but missed a good chunk of time in this one -- ceding way to teammate Cam Akers while he dealt with his ailment. Jones was never designated with an injury, but the broadcast team reported that he got stepped on at one point and was later seen with a wrap around his leg on the sidelines. He'd reenter the game but sat out the entirety of the fourth quarter. Minnesota was up 27-10 at the start of the final frame, and their lead is likely the reason why they rested the veteran. Still, it's notable that he remained out with the Packers, bringing the game to a two-point margin. He'll now rest up ahead of the Vikings' pivotal Week 18 meeting with the Detroit Lions. The winner of that matchup will clinch the NFC North and hold the top spot in the conference.

Josh Jacobs Dec 29 7:00pm CT
Josh Jacobs

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs continued his touchdown binge despite losing to the Minnesota Vikings 27-25. Jacobs saw the 17-of-23 running back carries in Week 17, rushing for 69 yards and a third-quarter touchdown to get the Packers within two scores. With the Packers down from the second quarter onward, the game script eventually shifted to passing in the fourth quarter, where Jacobs had just four carries in the second half. Jacobs also lost a 19-yard touchdown which was nullified by a holding penalty, so his output could have been even better. Still, Jacobs is the engine of the Packers' offense and should be a locked-in RB1 in the Packers' final regular season game against the Chicago Bears in Week 18.

D'Onta Foreman Dec 29 6:53pm CT
D'Onta Foreman

Cleveland Browns RB D'Onta Foreman finished with 13 carries for a team-high 49 yards and failed to catch either of his targets in a 20-3 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 17.

Fantasy Spin: Foreman saw a bulk of the backfield touches when Jerome Ford left with an injury in the first half. Fellow back Pierre Strong Jr. also suffered an injury late in the game. Foreman could be the last back standing for the season finale, but even in that scenario, he is a risky flex play.

Sam Darnold Dec 29 6:50pm CT
Sam Darnold

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold completed 33 of 43 passes for a career-high 377 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 27-25 win over the Green Bay Packers. He threw one INT and lost three yards on his three carries. The former USC Trojan was again impressive -- this time in a difficult matchup against a Packers D that entered Week 17 allowing the third-fewest fantasy points per game to signal-callers. Darnold eclipsed the previous career-high in passing yards he set back in Week 14 and has gone over 300 yards three times in his last six outings after not having done so previously in 2024. The 27-year-old is up to a 35:12 TD:INT ratio while leading his squad to a 14-2 record -- an excellent season. He'll get a shot to capture the NFC North and the top record in his conference in a Week 18 divisional clash with the Detroit Lions.

Jordan Love Dec 29 6:50pm CT
Jordan Love

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love continues his backslide in the second half of the season as the Packers fell to the Minnesota Vikings 27-25. Love was 19-of-30 passing for 185 yards and a lone touchdown pass to Malik Heath late in the fourth quarter. For the first time since their Week 10 bye, the Packers had 30 pass attempts in a game, but that slightly increased passing volume didn't matter as even down 17 points at times in the third and fourth quarter, the Packers still mixed in run plays with less urgency than one would expect. Love has been a top-12 fantasy quarterback just twice since Week 9 and will be a weaker streaming option when the Packers host the Chicago Bears in their Week 18 regular season finale.

Myles Garrett Dec 29 6:43pm CT
Myles Garrett

Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett finished with four tackles, including three tackles for loss, and a pair of sacks in a 20-3 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 17.

Jordan Akins Dec 29 6:43pm CT
Jordan Akins

Cleveland Browns TE Jordan Akins finished with six receptions on eight targets for a season-high 49 yards in a 20-3 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 17.

Tyreek Hill Dec 29 6:33pm CT
Tyreek Hill

Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill caught all nine of his targets for 105 yards in a 20-3 win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 17.

Fantasy Spin: Believe it or not, this was just the third 100-yard game of the year for Hill, but fantasy owners that stuck with him were rewarded with one of his strongest outings.

From TheHuddle

Jonnu Smith Dec 29 6:33pm CT
Jonnu Smith

Miami Dolphins TE Jonnu Smith caught three of his four targets for 26 yards and a touchdown in a 20-3 win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 17.

Fantasy Spin: With Tyler Huntley under center, Smith didn't have the numbers fantasy owners have become accustomed to from the tight end. Fortunately, he salvaged an otherwise quiet game with a touchdown.

Chase McLaughlin Dec 29 6:20pm CT
Chase McLaughlin

Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Chase McLaughlin saw a ton of work during Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers. McLaughlin was called upon for six extra point attempts and two field goals and he connected on all of them to make an eight-kick day for him. Fantasy managers who trusted McLaughlin saw a good result during Sunday's blowout win. The 28-year-old has been one of the more reliable kicking options this season. He continues to get plenty of chances with the way this Bucs offense is rolling right now. McLaughlin remains a strong streaming option for next week's matchup against the New Orleans Saints.

Bo Nix Dec 29 6:13pm CT
Bo Nix

Dynasty | Broncos quarterback Bo Nix completed 24-of-31 passes for 219 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in a loss to the Bengals. Dynasty Analysis: There's no shame in losing to Joe Burrow, who has no problem generating points in football games. While Nix came out on the wrong side of things this week, he's been solid all year and now has 25 touchdown passes and just 12 interceptions as a rookie. It's clear the Broncos have found their guy and he's poised to take another step forward next season. While more a QB2 than QB1 at the moment, Nix should see his dynasty value rise a touch this off-season.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Joe Burrow Dec 29 6:13pm CT
Joe Burrow

Dynasty | Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow completed 39-of-49 passes for 412 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in a win against Denver. Dynasty Analysis: Burrow now has a whopping 4,641 passing yards with 42 touchdowns and just eight interceptions on the season. While he isn't likely going to win the MVP award with his team possibly out of the playoff race, few players are as important to their teams as he is. In dynasty leagues, he's clearly going to be valued as a top-5 quarterback asset this off-season.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Brian Thomas Jr. Dec 29 6:13pm CT
Brian Thomas Jr.

Dynasty | Jaguars rookie receiver Brian Thomas Jr had seven catches for 91 yards and a touchdown in a win over Tennessee. Dynasty Analysis: Thomas ends the fantasy season with 80 catches (on 122 targets), 1,179 yards and ten touchdowns. It was quite the debut season for Thomas, who looks like an absolute steal as the likely third or fourth pick in rookie drafts this past Spring. A budding superstar at the position, BTJ should be a top-ten receiver when rankings are finalized going into next season.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Baker Mayfield Dec 29 6:13pm CT
Baker Mayfield

Dynasty | Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 27-of-32 passes for 359 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions in a win against the Panthers. Dynasty Analysis: Those are the kinds of numbers Mayfield used to put up at Oklahoma and very difficult to achieve in the NFL. Still, the quarterback Cleveland (and many others) didn't want is putting up a career season with 4,279 passing yards, 39 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. While the 15 interceptions are a little trouble, one must keep in mind he's thrown the ball a ridiculous 538 times already this season. Mayfield has been tremendous all year and anyone who started him today (which they should have as he's been an easy QB1 all year) are likely hoisting a league trophy. Mayfield's dynasty value will continue to rise after this one.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Sean Tucker Dec 29 6:13pm CT
Sean Tucker

Dynasty | Bucs running back Bucky Irving had 113 rushing yards, four catches and 77 receiving yards in a win over Carolina. Dynasty Analysis: Many realized Irving was Tampa Bay's best running back a couple of months ago and it seems clear the Bucs are in agreement. He had 20 carries today and while Sean Tucker and Rachaad White are still siphoning off some carries, Irving is clearly the best of the bunch and looks to be the long-term starter moving forward. Irving's dynasty value has risen more than just about any rookie this year and that shouldn't change this off-season.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Mike Evans Dec 29 6:13pm CT
Mike Evans

Dynasty | Bucs receiver Mike Evans caught eight passes for 97 yards and posted two touchdowns in a win over Carolina. Dynasty Analysis: This is going to get interesting. Evans has started his career with ten straight 1,000 yard seasons and now has a 65/915/11 line after playing in just 13 games. Tampa Bay is in a fight for the division, so it seems Evans will have a shot at making in 11 seasons in a row next week. He's been a WR1 again this season and the ageless wonder is showing few signs of slowing down.
