Former All-Pro S Jamal Adams set to make Lions debut vs. Packers

Thu Dec 5 7:52pm ET
Field Level Media

The Detroit Lions elevated former All-Pro safety Jamal Adams, whom they signed as a free agent to the practice squad on Sunday, to their game-day roster on Thursday night.

The Lions, who share the NFL's best record at 11-1, host their NFC North rivals, the Green Bay Packers (9-3).

Adams, 29, began the season with the Tennessee Titans, who signed him as a free agent in July. He was released, at his request, on Oct. 17.

He was selected in the first round (No. 6 overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft by the New York Jets.

Seattle sent two first-round draft picks to New York in 2020 to acquire Adams, then signed him to a four-year, $70 million contract extension. His action was limited in Seattle due to injuries, and he played just 34 games over four seasons.

With the Titans, he appeared in three games (one start) and made four tackles.

In 83 career games (81 starts), Adams has 498 tackles, four interceptions with one touchdown return, 36 passes defended, seven forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2018, 2019 and 2020 and was first-team All-Pro in 2019.

Detroit also elevated outside linebacker Mitchell Agude to the game-day roster.

The Lions' list of inactives for Thursday's game includes four injured starters: offensive tackle Taylor Decker (knee) and defensive linemen DJ Reader (shoulder), Josh Paschal (knee) and Levi Onwuzurike (hamstring).

The other inactives, who did not have injury designations, are cornerback Emmanuel Moseley, guard Kayode Awosika and offensive tackle Giovanni Manu.

Detroit also signed wide receiver Maurice Alexander from the practice squad to the active roster on Thursday, when he can return punts and kickoffs in place of the injured Kalif Raymond (injured reserve).

The Packers' inactive list features cornerbacks Jaire Alexander (knee) and Corey Ballentine (knee), linebacker Edgerrin Cooper (hamstring), offensive lineman Jacob Monk (no injury designation) and wire receiver Romeo Doubs (concussion).

Hot Plays, Fades and Sleepers: Week 14

Player Notes
Jake Bates Dec 6 10:00am CT
Jake Bates

Detroit Lions kicker Jake Bates converted both of his field-goal attempts and all four extra points in the team's 34-31 win over the Packers on Thursday night. Bates' performance included a 43-yard kick and a clutch 35-yard game-winner, showcasing his reliability in high-pressure situations. The Lions' offense continues to provide plenty of scoring opportunities for Bates, who has now connected on 21 of 22 field-goal attempts and 48 of 49 extra points this season. With at least eight fantasy points in 10 games this year, Bates remains one of the most consistent fantasy kickers heading into Week 15's matchup against the Buffalo Bills.

Amon-Ra St. Brown Dec 6 9:50am CT
Amon-Ra St. Brown

Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown caught five of his six targets for 43 yards and added a 10-yard rush in the team's 34-31 win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 14. St. Brown tied for third in receiving yards in the high-scoring contest but continued a quieter stretch of games, having now totaled 16 receptions for 178 yards without a touchdown over the past three weeks. Despite the dip in production, he remains a must-start option in all fantasy formats due to his consistent involvement in Detroit's offense. Fantasy managers will hope for a stronger showing in Week 15 when the Lions host the Buffalo Bills. St. Brown remains a focal point of the offense and will look to reestablish himself as a top-tier fantasy WR.

Sam LaPorta Dec 6 9:50am CT
Sam LaPorta

Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta caught five of his seven targets for 54 yards in a 34-31 win over the Packers on Thursday night in Week 14. LaPorta finished second on the team in receiving, continuing his recent surge in production. After a largely underwhelming season, the veteran tight end seems to be finding his rhythm, recording double-digit fantasy points in back-to-back games for the first time this year. With three touchdowns and two games of at least 54 yards over his past four contests, LaPorta has worked his way back into the low-end TE1 conversation. He'll look to stay productive as the Lions host the Buffalo Bills in Week 15.

Jameson Williams Dec 6 9:50am CT
Jameson Williams

Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams caught five of his eight targets for 80 yards in a 34-31 win over the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night in Week 14. Williams led the Lions in receiving yards, showing his big-play potential in Detroit's high-powered offense. Despite catching five passes in each of his last three games, Williams has not found the end zone during this stretch, slightly capping his fantasy value. His output has been unpredictable at times this season, but his ability to produce big-yardage plays makes him a WR3 with upside for Week 15 as Detroit hosts the Buffalo Bills.

Tim Patrick Dec 6 9:20am CT
Tim Patrick

Detroit Lions wide receiver Tim Patrick scored his first two touchdowns of the season on Thursday night to help the team to a 34-31 win over the Green Bay Packers. The former Denver Bronco finished the game with six receptions for 43 yards and two touchdowns on seven targets. This was the second two-touchdown performance of his career, the last one happened in Week 13 of the 2020 season. It was also his first touchdown since Week 15 of 2021. Patrick and company will take on the Buffalo Bills in Week 15.

Jahmyr Gibbs Dec 6 9:10am CT
Jahmyr Gibbs

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs found paydirt on Thursday during the 34-31 win over the Green Bay Packers. The "Sonic" half of the backfield duo hauled in a two-yard touchdown pass from Jared Goff to end the first half and give Detroit a ten-point lead. He went on to finish the game with 15 carries for 43 yards and six receptions for 30 yards and a score. Gibbs couldn't find as much open space as David Montgomery in this game, but the touchdown provided a nice fantasy scoring boost. He'll go up against a vulnerable run defense in the Buffalo Bills in Week 15 and look to find some more running room.

From RotoBaller

Jared Goff Dec 6 9:00am CT
Jared Goff

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff threw the ball 41 times and allowed six different pass catchers to haul in at least five receptions each during the 34-31 victory over the Green Bay Packers. The veteran signal-caller finished the game with 283 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception on 32-for-41 throwing while adding four carries for seven yards on the ground. Two of his scores went to Tim Patrick which were his first two of the season. Goff will look to push this win streak to 12 against the Buffalo Bills in Week 15.

David Montgomery Dec 6 9:00am CT
David Montgomery

Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery found the end zone again on Thursday during the three-point win over the Green Bay Packers. The red zone and goal line carries came in handy yet again as the bruiser back scored on a three-yard run to cap off the game's first drive. He finished with 14 carries for 51 yards to lead the backfield while chipping in with five receptions for 33 yards on five targets. The running back duo in Detroit has provided some big value as they both scored in this one. They'll look to share the wealth again in Week 15 against a red-hot Buffalo Bills squad.

Theo Johnson Dec 6 8:50am CT
Theo Johnson

New York Giants tight end Theo Johnson (foot) underwent a season-ending surgery to address the foot injury he suffered on Thanksgiving against the Cowboys. According to Art Stapleton, the issue was a fifth metatarsal fracture and not a Lisfranc injury. This means the rookie finishes his first season with 29 receptions for 331 yards and a touchdown on 43 targets through 12 appearances. There hasn't been a confirmed timetable for his return yet. That means Daniel Bellinger will be the starter to finish out the season.

Tucker Kraft Dec 6 12:00am CT
Tucker Kraft

Green Bay Packers tight end Tucker Kraft continued his fine fantasy season as he got into the end zone in the Packers' 34-31 loss to the NFC North-leading Detroit Lions in Week 14. Kraft caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jordan Love in the third quarter; his only touchdown pass of the night. With only 20 passing attempts, there wasn't much volume to be had by the Packers' pass-catchers, but Kraft reeled 3-of-5 targets for 41 yards. Next up for the Packers is a date with the Seattle Seahawks in Week 15 where Kraft should be considered a low-end TE1 for fantasy managers.

Dontayvion Wicks Dec 6 12:00am CT
Dontayvion Wicks

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks was solid but unspectacular in the Packers' 34-31 loss to the NFC North-leading Detroit Lions in Week 14. Wicks had extended playing time thanks to Romeo Doubs (concussion) being ruled out and was moderately productive, bringing in 4-of-5 targets for 49 receiving yards. Two of his receptions in back-to-back plays of 28 and 12 yards directly led to great field position where the Packers eventually settled for a game-tying field goal. The Packers will head west to Seattle to take on the Seahawks in Week 15 and if Doubs remains out, Wicks will be a low-end flex option for fantasy managers.

From RotoBaller

Christian Watson Dec 5 11:50pm CT
Christian Watson

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson posted his second 100-yard game in the last four contests as the Packers lost 34-31 to the Detroit Lions. Watson led the Packers with seven targets and caught four passes for 114 yards, pacing the Packers on the receiving end of things. After losing a fumble at the end of the first quarter, Watson made a few long catches, including a 59-yard reception in the third quarter. With Romeo Doubs (concussion) out for Week 14, Watson got some extended playing time and took advantage with a big game on not a ton of volume. Depending on the health of Doubs, Watson will once again be a boom-or-bust fantasy flex when the Packers head west to Seattle to face the Seahawks in Week 15.

From RotoBaller

Josh Jacobs Dec 5 11:40pm CT
Josh Jacobs

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs provided most of the Packers' scoring as he was a massive part of the Packers' game plan in their eventual 34-31 loss to the Detroit Lions. Jacobs was solid on the ground, piling up 66 yards on the ground on 18 rushing attempts, but he scored three times to highlight Jacobs' stellar performance. Pacing the Packers' offense as the closer to three of their four touchdown drives, Jacobs plunged in a one-yard score in the second quarter, a six-yard touchdown in the third quarter, and a four-yard plunge. Jacobs almost had a fourth touchdown through the air as well, if not for an offensive pass interference penalty. Week 14 was Jacobs' second three-touchdown game in the last three games, so Jacobs is clearly a must-start fantasy option at running back heading into Week 15's tilt against the Seattle Seahawks.

Jordan Love Dec 5 11:30pm CT
Jordan Love

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love was a bit of a disappointment in the Packers' 34-31 last-second loss to the NFC North-leading Detroit Lions in Week 14. Love only had 20 pass attempts, completing 12-of-20 pass attempts for 206 yards and a single touchdown pass to Tucker Kraft in the beginning of the third quarter. On the ground, Love also added 23 yards on the ground, most of that coming from an eight-yard scramble in the first drive and then a 14-yard scramble in the second quarter. Without much in the way of passing volume, it would have taken extreme efficiency for Love to thrive from a fantasy perspective. He'll look to improve in Week 15, where he and the Packers will travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks. Consider Love a back-end fantasy QB1 for that matchup.

From RotoBaller

Jayden Reed Dec 5 11:20pm CT
Jayden Reed

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed was nowhere to be found in the Packers' 34-31 loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 14. Coming into this matchup with the Lions, Reed was expected to have an excellent game against Detroit, who has been vulnerable as they have given up the most receiving yards to opposing slot wide receivers this season. All the Lions did was completely blank Reed from the stat sheet, as Reed only registered one target and reeled in zero catches on the night. Week 14's game was a disappointing outcome for Reed and the Packers, who only had only 24 dropbacks and just 20 pass attempts. The Packers will have a long week to think about this loss as they'll take on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 15, where Reed will be a volatile fantasy WR3 who will no doubt look to bounce back from this goose-egg.

Javon Bullard Dec 5 10:10pm CT
Javon Bullard

Green Bay Packers rookie safety Evan Williams (concussion) suffered a concussion on Thursday Night Football against the division-rival Detroit Lions and has been ruled out for the rest of the game. Williams suffered the concussion in the first half and will not be allowed to come back into the game in the second half. That will make things more difficult for the Packers' defense the rest of the way against one of the best offenses in football. Williams, who was a fourth-round pick this year, came into Thursday's game with 45 tackles (28 solo), an interception, three pass breakups and a forced fumble in his first 11 games (four starts). Javon Bullard will see more playing time for however long Williams remains out. The good news for Williams is he'll have extra time to try and clear the league's concussion protocol before Green Bay's next game on Dec. 15 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Brodric Martin Dec 5 10:00pm CT
Brodric Martin

Detroit Lions defensive lineman Alim McNeill (head) suffered a head injury on Thursday night against the division-rival Green Bay Packers and was taken to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion before eventually being ruled out for the rest of the contest in the second half. The Lions defense can ill-afford any more injuries to their defensive line. All-Pro pass-rusher Aidan Hutchinson (leg) is already out for the year, and the Lions were also missing three other defensive linemen due to injury coming into the Week 14 game. For the rest of the game on Thursday evening, the Lions will be forced to test their depth with Brodric Martin and Myles Adams. The good news is McNeill will have extra time to recover before the Lions face the Buffalo Bills in Week 15 on Sunday, Dec. 15.

From RotoBaller

Baker Mayfield Dec 5 9:00pm CT
Baker Mayfield

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield (knee) practiced in full during Thursday's session. Fantasy managers shouldn't be concerned about Mayfield's status after back-to-back full practice sessions to begin the week. Mayfield briefly exited during last week's win over the Carolina Panthers. Afterwards, head coach Todd Bowles said Mayfield was dealing with some soreness, but it's going to take more than that to get him off the field. Fantasy managers should go ahead and plug in Mayfield as a QB1 for Sunday's plus matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.

From RotoBaller

Darnell Mooney Dec 5 8:50pm CT
Darnell Mooney

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Darnell Mooney (Achilles) was a full participant during Thursday's practice session. Mooney was back on the practice field here after sitting out on Wednesday due to rest purposes. The 27-year-old has been dealing with an Achilles issue, but it doesn't appear to be something that is going to hold him out of action. Fantasy managers should expect Mooney to be ready for the Week 14 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. Mooney has five receptions for 47 yards over his last two games. He should be considered a WR3 for this weekend.

From RotoBaller

Josh Oliver Dec 5 8:40pm CT
Josh Oliver

Minnesota Vikings tight end Josh Oliver (ankle, wrist) was a full participant during Thursday's practice session. This is now back-to-back full practice sessions for Oliver ahead of the Week 14 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. Oliver appears to be on track to return from a two-game absence on Sunday. However, his fantasy value is likely going to be limited with T.J. Hockenson back in the fold. The expectation is that Oliver will serve as the No. 2 tight end, but fantasy managers shouldn't expect Oliver to be a viable fantasy option. He could see a few targets, but probably won't be enough to warrant keeping him rostered in most fantasy formats.
