Seahawks WR DK Metcalf (knee) doubtful vs. Bills

Fri Oct 25 6:47pm ET
Field Level Media

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf is listed as doubtful to play against the visiting Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Metcalf sustained a Grade 1 strain of the medial collateral ligament in his knee last Sunday in the Seahawks' 34-14 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald told reporters on Friday that there's a chance Metcalf can play against Buffalo despite failing to participate in practice all week.

"It's doubtful right now for the game," Macdonald said. "It's not out of the question, 100 percent yet so we will take it to Sunday, and we'll go from there."

Metcalf, 26, leads the Seahawks in receiving yards (568) and receiving touchdowns (three) to go along with 35 catches in seven games this season. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who has a club-best 37 receptions, and Tyler Lockett will be looked upon to pick up the slack should Metcalf sit out for Seattle (4-3).

Running back Kenneth Walker III does not carry an injury designation after returning to a full practice on Friday. He had been nursing an illness.

Nose tackle Cameron Young (knee) is doubtful to face Buffalo (5-2), while cornerbacks Tre Brown (ankle) and Nehemiah Pritchett (ankle) and defensive end Mike Morris (ankle) are questionable.

"Tre practiced today and is trending positively for the game," Macdonald said. "Anything can happen between now and then but (we're) optimistic with Tre."

Hot Plays, Fades and Sleepers: Week 8

Player Notes
Braelon Allen Oct 25 6:50pm CT
Braelon Allen

New York Jets running back Braelon Allen has become a forgotten man in the team's backfield in the two games since the team fired Robert Saleh and made Jeff Ulbrich the interim head coach. Allen has handled just eight touches in his two games since the coaching change as the new regime has focused on getting the ball to Breece Hall. The Jets draw a plus matchup against a New England Patriots defense that is allowing the third-most fantasy points per game to running backs but Allen should not be trusted in starting lineups despite the plus matchup.

Breece Hall Oct 25 6:40pm CT
Breece Hall

New York Jets running back Breece Hall is in the midst of a fantastic two-game stretch as he's amassed 151 rushing yards, 159 receiving yards, and a touchdown over that span. He will look to stay hot in a road matchup against the New England Patriots in Week 8. The Patriots represent a plus matchup for Hall as they are allowing the third-most fantasy points per game to running backs in 2024. Hall is primed for a huge afternoon against the Patriots and should be treated as a top-three fantasy running back heading into Week 8.

David Njoku Oct 25 6:30pm CT
David Njoku

Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku turned in a big game in a Week 7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, catching 10 passes for 76 yards and a touchdown. The veteran tight end will look to keep it going in a Week 8 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens at home. Njoku should continue to operate as the team's top option moving forward, which puts him in play as a top-three option at the tight end position in fantasy this weekend. The Ravens have been generous to opposing tight ends this season, giving Njoku one of his better matchups of the season. Njoku is also as healthy as he's been for a while as he practiced fully all week after dealing with knee and ankle injuries for much of the season. He should be locked into starting lineups as a no-brainer starting option this weekend.

From RotoBaller

Dustin Hopkins Oct 25 6:30pm CT
Dustin Hopkins

Cleveland Browns kicker Dustin Hopkins will take on the Baltimore Ravens at home in Week 8. The Ravens have been generous to fantasy kickers this season, allowing the 10th-most fantasy points per game to the position through seven games. That being said, Hopkins has attempted more than two field goals just twice in seven games and has exactly one attempt in four games in 2024. He should not be considered as a starting fantasy option heading into Week 8.

From RotoBaller

Jerry Jeudy Oct 25 6:20pm CT
Jerry Jeudy

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy (knee) practiced fully all week despite being listed on the team's injury report with a knee injury and is without an injury status heading into a Week 8 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Jeudy failed to take advantage of the trade that sent Amari Cooper to Buffalo last week, catching just one pass for 18 yards in a Week 7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. He will look to bounce back against a Ravens defense allowing the second-most fantasy points per game to opposing wideouts this season. Jeudy has a chance to turn in a big game thanks to the plus matchup but he should be treated as a WR4 in fantasy heading into the weekend.

Tyjae Spears Oct 25 6:20pm CT
Tyjae Spears

Tennessee Titans running back Tyjae Spears (hamstring) has logged limited practices all week and is currently questionable for the upcoming matchup vs. Detroit on Sunday. Spears season has been marred by injury, as the second-year back has missed one game and left two others early due to injury. Even if he's active on Sunday, it is tough to find a reason for starting Spears in fantasy given the state of the Titans offense and how stout Detroit is against the run. The Lions are third-best in limiting opponents on the ground, and with Spears at risk of re-injury, he's not likely to produce much in the rushing department. The only path to fantasy relevance here is Spears reclaiming his slice of the passing game pie, but that is not reliable enough even for a deeper-league start.

Tucker Kraft Oct 25 6:10pm CT
Tucker Kraft

Green Bay Packers tight end Tucker Kraft returned to the scoring column in Week 7 and looks to repeat that this week as the Packers head down to Jacksonville to play the Jaguars in Week 8. Kraft caught a touchdown pass to save his week in Week 7 where he had three receptions for 33 yards on four targets. He's been excellent for fantasy managers over the past month, as since Week 4, Kraft has been the overall TE3 in fantasy points per game with two overall TE1 weeks in Week 4 and Week 5. Sometimes, it can be difficult for Kraft to stand out in a crowded pass-catching group that the Packers have, but he's reliably on the field a ton and is targeted plenty by quarterback Jordan Love. Against the Jaguars, Kraft should have less resistance than in most matchups as Jacksonville has allowed the fifth-most fantasy points per game to the tight end position. Kraft is a TE1 in Week 8 in a game where passing volume could be very high between both the Packers and Jaguars.

From RotoBaller

Calvin Ridley Oct 25 6:10pm CT
Calvin Ridley

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley faces the Detroit Lions in Week 8 NFL action on Sunday. Ridley missed two practices this week but logged a full session on Friday, which helped him avoid an injury designation heading into the weekend. Him and DeAndre Hopkins have split games of being the "alpha" receiver in this offense in terms of target share, but now the latter is now off to join forces with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs after being traded this past week. That makes Ridley the clear top option in this passing attack, but he has shown poor chemistry with both Titans quarterbacks to date. It is unclear which signal caller will get the start in Detroit, but regardless of who it is, Ridley would be the ultimate boom-bust play facing a Detroit secondary that concedes the fifth-most points to fantasy WRs on the year. Matchup, game script, and opportunity shift are all looking positive for Ridley in this one, but even with those aligned in the past, he has let fantasy managers down. Ridley is a risky WR3 for the upcoming matchup in Detroit.

Mason Rudolph Oct 25 6:00pm CT
Mason Rudolph

Tennessee Titans tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo faces the Lions in a cross-conference matchup this Sunday in Detroit. Okonkwo had his highest yardage total of the season last week with 50, almost tripling his next highest output (16). It's been that kind of year for the young tight end and this Titans' offense as a whole. DeAndre Hopkins being moved to Kansas City opens up some extra targets that could go Okonkwo's way, but he is about to face a defense that has allowed the second-fewest yards to tight ends on the year. Mason Rudolph drawing the start would give Okonkwo the slightest viability in deeper-leagues, but his upside is still limited.

From RotoBaller

Cedric Tillman Oct 25 6:00pm CT
Cedric Tillman

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Cedric Tillman had a breakout performance in his team's Week 7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, catching eight balls for 81 yards. Tillman will look to continue the success in Week 8 against the Baltimore Ravens at home while the Browns will hope that they found their new WR1 after trading Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills ahead of Week 7. Tillman has a chance for a big game against a Baltimore secondary that is allowing the second-most fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers this year. Trusting anyone on the Cleveland offense is a bit of a stretch this season but Tillman is on the map as a WR4 in fantasy thanks to the plus matchup.

From RotoBaller

Christian Watson Oct 25 6:00pm CT
Christian Watson

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (ankle) practiced in limited fashion on Wednesday and Thursday but put together a full practice and was removed from the team's injury report, indicating that he's good to go for the Packers' Week 8 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The story for Watson has been up and down, as he's paired some touchdown-dependent games with several clunkers, like last week where he only earned two targets, catching one of those targets for nine yards. Watson and Dontayvion Wicks have essentially split a role in this offense over the last couple of weeks, with Romeo Doubs and Jayden Reed maintaining their roles as full-time players. As long as Watson isn't running a full routes share, he's going to be very hard to trust in fantasy. That said, the matchup is great for Watson and he has loads of big-play potential. For Week 8, consider Watson a low-end WR4 option that is heavily reliant on the big play to matter in fantasy.

Bijan Robinson Oct 25 6:00pm CT
Bijan Robinson

Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson is coming off his biggest workload of the season so far (26 touches, 143 total yards) and the 22-year-old is averaging a solid 4.7 yards per rush through seven games. His Week 8 opponent, Tampa Bay, has been poor at stopping the run, yielding 5.3 yards per rush, which is third-worst in all of football. Despite this, teams have attacked Tampa Bay through the air, and in Week 5, Robinson totaled just 12 rush attempts against these same Buccaneers. Look for a slight uptick in workload since Kirk Cousins likely won't be throwing 58 passes this time around, and with at least three receptions in six of seven contests, the former first-round pick should be involved in the passing game regardless. Also keep in mind that running backs Derrick Henry and Justice Hill recorded touchdown receptions against the Bucs last week. With Tampa missing their top two receivers, this one has the look of a slower-paced contest which should keep the running backs busy, so trust Robinson as an RB1 again in Week 8, albeit a mid-range one.

From RotoBaller

Nick Chubb Oct 25 5:50pm CT
Nick Chubb

Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb made a triumphant return to the field last week as he scored a touchdown in his first game in over a year. He will look to keep it going in Week 8's home game against the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens have been very beatable through the air this season but they have been tough against the run, allowing the 20th-most fantasy points per game to running backs thus far. Chubb should get the majority of the work on early downs but he still settles in as an RB3 in fantasy thanks to the challenging matchup.

From RotoBaller

Tyler Boyd Oct 25 5:50pm CT
Tyler Boyd

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Tyler Boyd will face the Detroit Lions in a Week 8 matchup on Sunday. The longtime Bengals wideout hasn't been very relevant for fantasy this year finishing as a top-60 receiver only once on the season. Poor quarterback play and target competition have mainly been the culprit, but Boyd's role should increase after DeAndre Hopkins was shipped off to Kansas City earlier this week. The Titans' #1 wideout Calvin Ridley is currently questionable with a foot injury, which means Boyd could potentially be the top WR for the Titans this weekend. That position hasn't exactly been a guarantee of fantasy success, but the Titans will likely be in catch-up mode the entire afternoon which could lead to more opportunity for Boyd. Detroit also ranks dead-last in the NFL in slot points allowed to WRs this season, which is primarily where Boyd lines up. There is limited ceiling here, but Boyd could provide a safe spot start for fantasy managers, especially if Ridley misses.

From RotoBaller

Romeo Doubs Oct 25 5:50pm CT
Romeo Doubs

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs has been the most productive Packers' pass-catcher over the last couple of games and he looks to keep that streak going in a matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 8. Doubs has put together WR11 and WR13 performances in the last two weeks following a one-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team back in Week 5. Where the first game back in Week 6 was primarily reliant on his two touchdowns, Week 7's game was based on receiving volume as he led the team with 10 targets, eight receptions and 94 receiving yards. Doubs has pretty solid so far this season and against a pass-funnel defense in the Jaguars, he should be able to return WR3-level fantasy production with the upside for much more with the way he's played lately.

From RotoBaller

Joe Mixon Oct 25 5:40pm CT
Joe Mixon

In his first season with the Houston Texans, running back Joe Mixon has been an excellent fantasy option, which should continue in Week 8 against the Indianapolis Colts. The former Cincinnati Bengal has played three full games in the Texans' offense, all of which concluded with a top-five finish among fantasy running backs. The veteran back has earned 13 red-zone carries in the past two weeks alone, and now faces a Colts defense that he torched for 178 total yards in Week 1. Given his volume and the matchup, Mixon should be in starting lineups in all formats against Indy.

From RotoBaller

C.J. Stroud Oct 25 5:40pm CT
C.J. Stroud

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud has a favorable Week 8 matchup against Indianapolis, welcome news after a rough performance last week at Green Bay in which he failed to crack 100 passing yards. Last year's Rookie of the Year has been unremarkable as a fantasy option this season relative to where he was drafted. He has just two top-10 finishes in seven games, although one of them was against the Colts in Week 1. Indy ranks 26th in air yards allowed and has surrendered 10 passing touchdowns so far this season. With this matchup, Stroud is still in starting territory in one-QB formats.

From RotoBaller

Jameis Winston Oct 25 5:40pm CT
Jameis Winston

Cleveland Browns quarterback Jameis Winston will step in as the team's starter for a Week 8 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Winston will make his first start for the Browns after the team lost Deshaun Watson to a season-ending Achilles injury during a Week 7 loss. The veteran quarterback draws a plus matchup against a Ravens secondary that is allowing the third-most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks in 2024. It is tough to predict how Winston will play for a Cleveland offense that has issues at offensive line but he is worth a look as a boom/bust QB2 in fantasy heading into the weekend.

From RotoBaller

Jayden Reed Oct 25 5:40pm CT
Jayden Reed

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed (ankle) put in a full practice on Friday after two limited practices on Wednesday and Thursday to be removed from the injury report for the Packers' Week 8 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Reed has been up and down this season and is coming off a down week where he only caught two passes for 10 yards on four targets. Luckily for Reed and the Packers, they'll get a true pass funnel defense in the Jaguars, where Reed should be able to carve them up. Reed has been used mostly in the short passing game at the line of scrimmage on most of his targets this season, but the hope is that some of the targets he'll receive are deeper, as he's been immensely successful downfield too. With Jordan Love dominating opposing defenses this season and Reed being his main target, fire up Reed as a low-end WR1 option with massive upside in Week 8.

From RotoBaller

Dalton Schultz Oct 25 5:30pm CT
Dalton Schultz

On one hand, Houston Texans tight end Dalton Schultz has one of his best matchups of the season against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8. On the other, it has been pretty difficult for fantasy managers to trust the veteran tight end. The former Dallas Cowboy has not finished as a top-15 fantasy tight end in any week this season, and he is now coming off a season-low one catch on two targets last week. The Colts rank among the bottom five against fantasy tight ends, though Schultz had just three catches for 16 yards in the first meeting in Week 1. He should be considered a TE2 despite the enticing matchup.
