Steelers have 'great optimism' Aaron Rodgers will return vs. Bills

Tue Nov 25 3:17pm ET
Field Level Media

After a brief absence, it sounds like Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will return to action Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, two weeks after sustaining a left wrist fracture.

Rodgers came close to playing last week against the Bears in Chicago, only being ruled out Sunday morning. The Steelers lost 31-28 with Mason Rudolph at quarterback.

"We'll start this week with great optimism (about Rodgers' availability) although we certainly will limit him at the early portions of the week, provide opportunities for the other quarterbacks while preserving him," head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters Tuesday. "But again, we're comfortable with the general trajectory, but I'll keep you updated in his level of participation and the quality of his participation over the course of the week will be the greatest indicator."

Rodgers, 41, completed 192 of 289 passes (66.4%) for 1,969 yards, 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions in his first 10 games in Pittsburgh after a two-year stint with the New York Jets.

Rudolph completed 24 of 31 passes for 171 yards, a touchdown and an interception in his first start of the season.

Tomlin also said Tuesday that starting left tackle Broderick Jones (neck) and starting defensive tackle Derrick Harmon (knee) will both miss Sunday's game after sustaining injuries vs. Chicago.

Since a 4-1 start, the Steelers (6-5) have lost four of the past six games. They're now tied with Baltimore atop the AFC North due to the Ravens' active five-game winning streak.

Five Fantasy Takeaways: Week 12

Player Notes
Josh Downs Nov 25 2:20pm CT
Josh Downs

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Josh Downs caught just two of his six targets for 10 yards in Sunday's overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 12. Downs was trending up in fantasy football after recording touchdown grabs in three straight games, but the 24-year-old has had back-to-back duds with three total receptions (eight targets) for just 13 yards the last two games. He has taken a back seat in the Colts' passing game behind receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and rookie tight end Tyler Warren. While the former third-rounder is still useful depth in most fantasy formats, he'll be hard to trust going into a difficult Week 13 matchup against the league's top defense in the Houston Texans. Downs is up to 38 receptions for 326 yards and three touchdowns on 54 targets in 10 games in 2025 in his third year in the NFL.

Omarion Hampton Nov 25 2:20pm CT
Omarion Hampton

The Los Angeles Chargers opened rookie first-round running back Omarion Hampton's (ankle) 21-day practice window on Tuesday, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. The Chargers are coming out of their bye in Week 12, and Hampton is now eligible to return from Injured Reserve after missing the team's last six games with a left-ankle injury. Whether the 22-year-old is cleared to play this Sunday against the division-rival Las Vegas Raiders in Week 13 will depend on how much he's able to do in practice this week. The North Carolina product was operating as L.A.'s clear lead back before his ankle injury, thanks to Najee Harris' season-ending Achilles injury. Kimani Vidal has been the Bolts' RB1 with Hampton sidelined, but his fantasy stock will take a huge hit when Hampton returns. Hampton should not be floating around on any waiver wires in fantasy football leagues.

Michael Penix Jr. Nov 25 2:10pm CT
Michael Penix Jr.

When the Atlanta Falcons spent a first-round pick on quarterback Michael Penix Jr. (knee) in the 2024 NFL Draft, approximately six weeks after signing veteran Kirk Cousins to a four-year, $180 million contract, they signaled a commitment to getting the QB position right, even if the approach was untraditional. Less than two years later, Penix suffered a season-ending ACL tear, the third since his college days, and Cousins sits at 8-8 as the Falcons starter following a Week 12 win over the Saints in which he failed to top 200 passing yards for his third straight start. Neither Penix nor Cousins has looked like a long-term answer at the position, and with Penix's injury timeline now adding uncertainty to his status for the beginning of the 2026 season, Atlanta could once again need to address the quarterback room this offseason.

Mike Gesicki Nov 25 2:10pm CT
Mike Gesicki

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Mike Gesicki returned from a five-week absence to record season-highs in targets, receptions, and yards in a Week 12 loss to the Patriots. While his final stat line of four receptions for 35 yards was only good enough for TE16 on the week, it was clear early on Sunday that the Bengals had a plan to feature their athletic tight end in a game that All-Pro receiver Ja'Marr Chase missed due to suspension. Heading into a Week 13 Thanksgiving matchup with the Ravens, receiver Tee Higgins (concussion) has already been ruled out, giving Gesicki another opportunity for an increased workload. With quarterback Joe Burrow (toe) in line to return this week, it should also be noted that Gesicki's three redzone targets in Burrow's two starts this year are tied with Chase for the team lead. Gesicki is RotoBaller's TE19 this Week, but he offers enough upside to make him a matchup-dependent streaming candidate.

Michael Wilson Nov 25 1:50pm CT
Michael Wilson

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Wilson has seen a staggering 32 targets over his last two games, converting that into 25 catches for 303 yards. In a rare third-year midseason breakout, he has taken full advantage of the opportunity presented by the two-game absence of Marvin Harrison Jr. (appendix), who continues to recover from an emergency appendectomy. When asked on Tuesday about Wilson's role upon Harrison's return, Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing offered that he would be moved around the formation while continuing to see early reads. He went on to say, "When you produce in this league, we're gonna give you more opportunities to continue to do that." Wilson remains a must-start for as long as Harrison is out, but in a suddenly pass-heavy Jacoby Brissett-led offense, he should maintain flex value down the stretch and into the fantasy playoffs.

From RotoBaller

George Pickens Nov 25 1:30pm CT
George Pickens

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens (knee/calf) will practice on Tuesday after being listed as a limited participant on Monday's estimated injury report. Pickens was banged up during the team's Week 12 win over the Eagles, spending a few snaps on the sideline, but he was able to return to action and ultimately ended the game with nine receptions for 146 yards and a touchdown. Pickens has been a fantasy MVP this season, currently the overall WR2, and he has recently put to rest any fears that the return of All-Pro CeeDee Lamb would eat into his ceiling potential. Playing in another island game on Thanksgiving, Pickens remains a strong WR1 play in Week 13, even against a stifling Kansas City defense.

From RotoBaller

Lamar Jackson Nov 25 1:20pm CT
Lamar Jackson

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (toe) returned to practice on Tuesday after missing Monday's walkthrough with a toe injury. With the Ravens facing a shortened week before a Thanksgiving matchup with the Bengals, this follows the same timeline Jackson has seen in each of the previous two weeks. Jackson has started the last four games after missing the previous three with an ankle injury, but he has finished as a QB1 in only one of those weeks, while finishing as QB29 and QB24 in his last two outings. Jackson represents a level of upside that's nearly impossible to keep on the bench, but it's clear he is currently hampered by injury, so fantasy managers should temper expectations in what would normally be a dream matchup against a porous Bengals defense.

J.J. McCarthy Nov 25 1:18pm CT
J.J. McCarthy

Dynasty | Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy completed just 12-of-19 passes for 89 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions against the Packers. Dynasty Analysis: Among the 813 quarterbacks who have attempted 150 passes in a season since 2005, McCarthy's completion percentage (54.1 percent) ranks 771st. His EPA per drop back ranks 807th out of 813. In short, he's been historically terrible for Minnesota. Even worse, this is a quarterback who essentially sat out a year to learn behind Sam Darnold. At this point, it's fair to wonder if Minnesota really does have their future quarterback on the roster. His ADP and ranking are free-falling with no bottom in sight.

D.K. Metcalf Nov 25 1:00pm CT
D.K. Metcalf

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver D.K. Metcalf (ankle) is among several players who will be limited during practice early in the week, Brooke Pryor of ESPN reports. Metcalf limped off the field after injuring his ankle during Pittsburgh's Week 12 loss to the Bears, but was ultimately able to return and finish the game. The 27-year-old seems to have avoided a significant injury, but his status will be managed in practice early this week before ramping up his workload. Metcald posted five catches for 22 yards on eight targets with Mason Rudolph filling in for an injured Aaron Rodgers (wrist); however, Rodgers should be back in Week 13 against the Buffalo Bills. Metcalf is expected to suit up on Sunday, with further updates on his status expected in the coming days.

Terry McLaurin Nov 25 12:50pm CT
Terry McLaurin

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn is "excited about the possibilities" when asked about his optimism level for wide receiver Terry McLaurin (quadriceps) returning in Week 13 against the Denver Broncos, according to JP Finlay of NBC4 Sports. Quinn added that they need to see his speed and burst for a few days before the team can get overly optimistic about his chances to return. McLaurin was back at practice on Monday, Washington's first practice after their Week 12 bye, although it was reported as more of a jog through. The 30-year-old wideout suffered a quadriceps injury during Washington's Week 3 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, then returned in Week 8 against the Kansas City Chiefs before re-aggravating the injury and has been sidelined since. McLaurin has recorded 13 receptions (21 targets) for 203 yards and a touchdown in four games this season, and could be on track to return to action as soon as Sunday night against the Denver Broncos if everything goes well in his recovery.

Lamar Jackson Nov 25 12:43pm CT
Lamar Jackson

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson (toe) was back at practice on Tuesday, Nov. 25.

Fantasy Spin: Jackson has made it a pattern to miss the first practice of the week before returning for the next. Jackson should be in your lineup for Week 13 as a QB1.

From TheHuddle

Isiah Pacheco Nov 25 12:40pm CT
Isiah Pacheco

Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco (knee) is set to return for Thursday's matchup against the Dallas Cowboys after missing the past three games. Pacheco suffered a sprained MCL during Kansas City's Week 8 win over Washington, but was listed as a full participant in Monday's estimated injury report and will play on Thanksgiving. The 26-year-old should slide back into a timeshare with veteran Kareem Hunt, who could see a lighter workload in Week 13 after handling a career high 30 carries in a Week 12 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Pacheco had middling fantasy production before going down, recording 78 carries for 329 yards and one touchdown while adding 11 catches (17 targets) for 43 yards and another score as a receiver in eight games, averaging 7.5 PPR points per game. He will rank as a low-end RB3/flex option for Thursday's matchup against the Cowboys.

From RotoBaller

Rashee Rice Nov 25 12:30pm CT
Rashee Rice

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice (hamstring) is expected to participate in Tuesday's practice, according to Nate Taylor of ESPN. Rice was estimated as limited in Monday's estimated injury report and appears to have avoided a serious injury that would force him to miss any time. The 25-year-old dominated in Kansas City's critical Week 12 win over the Indianapolis Colts, catching eight of 12 targets for a career-high 141 yards. Rice has been as advertised since returning from a six-game suspension in Week 7, scoring the fourth most PPR points (99.2) in that span, only trailing Jaxon Smith-Njigba, George Pickens, and Davante Adams. With Rice expected to play on Thanksgiving against a poor Dallas Cowboys secondary, he will again rank as an elite WR1 and should be in for another big day as Patrick Mahomes' favorite target.

From RotoBaller

Aaron Rodgers Nov 25 12:23pm CT
Aaron Rodgers

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers (wrist) has 'great optimism' surrounding his potential to play in Week 13, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Fantasy Spin: Rodgers missed last week, and the Steelers' offense struggled as a result. He, at the very least, helps the likes of D.K. Metcalf and Jaylen Warren, but if you plan on starting him in Week 13, it should only happen in two-quarterback leagues.

From TheHuddle

Noah Gray Nov 25 12:20pm CT
Noah Gray

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said that tight end Noah Gray (concussion) is in the league's concussion protocol and won't practice on Tuesday, according to Nate Taylor of ESPN. Gray was having one of his better games of the season before leaving, catching three of four targets for 25 yards. With a short practice week coming up ahead of a Thanksgiving matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, it appears unlikely that the 26-year-old will be able to clear protocol in time to suit up. Robert Tonyan would be expected to serve as the No. 2 tight end behind Travis Kelce with Gray sidelined.

From RotoBaller

Josh Jacobs Nov 25 12:13pm CT
Josh Jacobs

Dynasty | Packers running back Emanuel Wilson had 107 rushing yards and two touchdowns in an easy win against Minnesota. Dynasty Analysis: Wilson was called to action with Josh Jacobs out this week and predictably performed admirably. A very capable backup, Wilson looks like a player capable of putting up RB2 numbers at worst on a weekly basis should Jacobs miss more time moving forward. His dynasty value is capped at the moment but he remains a very solid handcuff to own in dynasty leagues.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Cam Ward Nov 25 12:13pm CT
Cam Ward

Dynasty | Titans quarterback Cam Ward completed 28-of-42 passes for 256 yards while rushing for 37 more and accounting for two touchdowns in Tennessee's loss to Seattle this week. Dynasty Analysis: Ward is still dealing with a team that's very talent deficient but he's at least improving as the season plugs along. With the Titans in line for the top overall pick again this year, it's important he proves to them he's indeed the long-term option. He still has a long way to go but we've seen enough positives as of late to stop his ADP freefall.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Nov 25 12:13pm CT
Jaxon Smith-Njigba

Dynasty | Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba had eight catches for 167 yards and two touchdowns in a win against Tennessee. Dynasty Analysis: If you drafted JSN hoping for a season with 80 catches, 1,313 yards and seven touchdowns, you got it. The only difference here is the fact he's done that in just eleven games. JSN has truly reached elite receiver status and has a chance for a 2,000 yard season. The NFL record is 1,964, meaning he needs to average just over 108 yards over the final six games to tie Calvin Johnson's mark. Sure, there's one more game in a season these days but is any dynasty manager arguing? JSN is making a run at overall WR1 status in dynasty leagues.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Shedeur Sanders Nov 25 12:13pm CT
Shedeur Sanders

Dynasty | Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders completed 11-of-20 passes for 209 yards with one touchdown and one interception in a win over the Raiders this week. Dynasty Analysis: Sanders was named the starter even with Dillon Gabriel cleared to play. Sanders was far from perfect in this one and still looks lost at times. However, he was at least able to produce a couple of chunk plays, something Gabriel has failed to do this year. We have a long way to go before treating Sanders as a long-term solution but it does look like he'll at least get a look as the season winds down. His ADP and ranking will start rising from the ashes this week, though it won't exactly be skyrocketing.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Cade York Nov 25 12:10pm CT
Cade York

The New Orleans Saints are signing free-agent kicker Cade York to their practice squad on Tuesday and are releasing kicker Blake Grupe in a corresponding move, a source told Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. The Saints are moving on from Grupe after he missed two field goals in the team's Week 12 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. The 27-year-old has made only 69.2% of his 26 field-goal attempts in 2025 in his third year in the league, although he has gone a perfect 15-for-15 on extra points. The Saints also worked out former Ravens kicker Justin Tucker on Monday, but they decided to go with York instead. York will likely be signed to the active 53-man roster for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins. The 24-year-old has kicked for three different teams in two NFL seasons, going 33-for-45 on field goals (73.3%) and 51-for-54 on extra-point tries. Fantasy managers will want to avoid York in one of the lowest scoring offenses in football.
