NFL Thanksgiving, Black Friday capsules

--Thursday

Chicago Bears (4-7) at Detroit Lions (10-1), 12:30 p.m. ET, CBS

With a nine-game winning streak and 2-0 record in the division, the Lions are no easy prey for the Bears in the first game of the holiday tripleheader on Thursday. Chicago lost another game in walkoff fashion, 30-27 to the Vikings in overtime, their third such defeat in a five-game losing streak to deflate a feel-good 4-2 start. Signs of growth are evident for Bears rookie No. 1 pick Caleb Williams. Facing Minnesota's notably blitz-happy defense, Williams guided the Bears to 17 points in the fourth quarter to force OT. He had his third 300-yard game of the season and hasn't thrown an interception during the ongoing five-game skid. A lasting pain point since the Bears tasted victory at London in Week 6 is execution on third downs converting 21 of 73 since the bye week. With the short and fruitless drives becoming habitual, Chicago has seen improvement with Thomas Brown calling plays the past two games, although there are signs of a weary defense late in games. No time for a breather at Ford Field. The Lions are all-gas, no-brakes with 10 total touchdowns the past eight quarters. The Bears have 12 touchdowns in their past six games. Old friend David Montgomery faces his former Bears' teammates and is doing his part to put points up for the Lions with 11 rushing TDs in 11 games. Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown has more touchdowns (nine) than all Bears wide receivers combined (eight). Chicago's defense picked off Jared Goff five times in two games last season. He has 20 touchdown passes -- one TD catch -- and seven games with multiple TD passes in 2024. In recent games, the Bears' defense is getting scorched. Chicago has surrendered a league-worst 1,977 total yards since Week 8.

New York Giants (2-9) at Dallas Cowboys (4-7), 4:30 p.m. ET, FOX

Backup Tommy DeVito didn't enjoy much of his first start this season for the Giants behind an offensive line breached by the Buccaneers repeatedly. DeVito, elevated to the starting role upon the demotion and release of Daniel Jones, was sacked four times and hit early and often. But there are a couple of reasons the Giants might stick around in the rematch of their 20-15 loss to Dallas earlier this season. For starters, the Cowboys are 0-5 at home and also pushed their backup into a starting role. Cooper Rush threw two TD passes last week but he wasn't entirely responsible for Dallas putting up 34 points to upset Washington. They also had two implausible fourth-quarter kickoff return TDs and the Commanders suffered self-inflicted wounds, not the least of which was a missed extra point that would have tied the game at 27 with 14 seconds remaining. Given the state of affairs in New York, where rookie WR Malik Nabers defined the team's effort as soft, and the questionable health of DeVito's offensive line, the Cowboys are favored to sweep the two-game series from the Giants for the fourth consecutive season. Rush (knee) started the week hobbled but head coach Mike McCarthy said he was confident the QB would be ready for Thursday.

Miami Dolphins (5-6) at Green Bay Packers (8-3), 8:20 p.m. ET, NBC

If it's Miami on the road late in the season, we're talking temperature and the Dolphins' miserable record in sub-freezing conditions tells a depressing tale for the fish. Miami is 0-12 in its last 12 games when temps at kickoff are 26 degrees or lower and it could be at or under that number Thursday night. Green Bay's offensive line is setting the tone of late and it is built for plowing the path in front of RB Josh Jacobs, a downhill runner who is breaking tackles and taking names. Jacobs has six rushing touchdowns and three games with 95 rushing yards or more in the past four contests. The Dolphins haven't proven capable of being a run-first outfit with De'Von Achane limited to 32 yards on 10 carries last week. But he flashes big-play potential as a secondary option to QB Tua Tagovailoa. Since returning from IR, Tagovailoa has 1,043 passing yards, 10 TD passes and a completion percentage over 77. The Packers are in the primetime spotlight the next four weeks while attempting to work their way up the playoff pecking order. They've won five of the past six games with the Dolphins. This is the second consecutive game for Packers coach Matt LaFleur opposing a former co-worker in Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel. He beat Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers last week. All three overlapped on staffs with the Houston Texans (2008), Washington Redskins (2011-13) and Atlanta Falcons (2015-16).

--Friday

Las Vegas Raiders (2-9) at Kansas City Chiefs (10-1), 3 p.m. ET, Amazon Prime

Normally cool and collected Chiefs coach Andy Reid nearly witnessed the coronary in Carolina courtesy of Bryce Young and the Panthers, who darted back into the game Sunday from an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit to force a game-ending field goal by Kansas City's fill-in kicker Spencer Shrader. As if there was a reason needed to take the Raiders seriously, Las Vegas beat Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City on Christmas Day last season. Reid is 19-4 against the Raiders with the Chiefs and Mahomes is 11-2 since becoming the starter in 2018. Mahomes will become the Chiefs' all-time leader in TD passes with his next score, breaking an existing tie with Len Dawson (237). Mahomes has an entertaining history with Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby, largely out of respectful competition. Crosby's stamina will be tested by the Chiefs' methodical offense. Kansas City is first in the NFL in 10-play drives (32) and third-down percentage (52.7), areas where the Raiders' defense is below-average. Las Vegas is No. 22 in the NFL in third-down defense and allowed 104 total points in the past three games. Raiders QB Aidan O'Connell is preparing to start Friday and make his first appearance since a thumb injury sent him to IR Week 7. O'Connell returns to an offense leaning heavily on rookie TE Brock Bowers to produce. He leads the team with 74 receptions, 744 yards and three TD catches. He had five receptions for 55 yards in the Raiders' 27-20 loss to the Chiefs on Oct. 27.

Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 13

Player Notes
Aaron Rodgers Nov 27 10:10am CT
Aaron Rodgers

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers will remain the starter as long as he stays healthy, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich confirmed Wednesday. There had previously been some chatter about a potential benching after it was reported that owner Woody Johnson proposed starting Tyrod Taylor over Rodgers. However, Ulbrich has now confirmed that the job belongs to Rodgers, barring an injury. The topic of health is an interesting one given recent rumors that Rodgers refused to undergo medical scans and was a candidate for injured reserve. Nevertheless, Ulbrich cleared the air Wednesday, saying Rodgers is healthier than he has been in several weeks. The veteran quarterback ranks as the overall QB19 in fantasy football this season, completing 241 passes for 2,442 yards, 17 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He'll rank as a high-end fantasy QB2 heading into a somewhat favorable matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.

Jordan Travis Nov 27 10:10am CT
Jordan Travis

New York Jets quarterback Jordan Travis (ankle) has experienced some setbacks and is not expected to be activated from the non-football injury list before the end of the 2024 NFL season, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said Wednesday. Travis suffered the injury while competing at Florida State University last season, and he was placed on the NFI list near the end of training camp. Ulbrich noted that he checks in with Travis daily, and even though his recovery isn't going as expected, the Jets' coach loves the young quarterback's work ethic and believes he can still be an impact player. Fantasy managers will likely have to wait until next year before getting a glimpse of Travis in a Jets uniform. In the meantime, New York's quarterback room will continue to feature veterans Aaron Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor.

Breece Hall Nov 27 10:00am CT
Breece Hall

New York Jets running back Breece Hall (knee) will not practice on Wednesday. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said that Hall is still dealing with soreness after he tweaked his knee back in Week 11 against the Indianapolis Colts. Ulbrich is "still hopeful" that Hall will suit up this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, but he acknowledges that the Jets are in the wait-and-see phase with their star running back. Not only has Hall been productive this year, but he has also been steadily available, suiting up for all 11 games so far and playing at least 69 percent of offensive snaps in every contest. If active this week, Hall would rank as a mid-range RB1 versus the Seahawks' relatively soft defense. If he can't play, rookie Braelon Allen would step up as the Jets' top running back, ranking as a low-end fantasy RB2.

Daniel Jones Nov 27 9:40am CT
Daniel Jones

Former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is signing with the Minnesota Vikings, according to NFL insider Ari Meirov. The former No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft lands with Kevin O'Connell following his abrupt release from New York. Jones will have the chance to sit behind Sam Darnold in hopes of regaining a starting job in the near future. Jones started 69 games for the Giants, racking up a 24-44-1 record behind 14,582 passing yards, 70 passing touchdowns, and 47 interceptions. He rushed for 2,179 yards and 15 scores. The 27-year-old is not on the fantasy football radar for now, but he's worth stashing in deep Superflex or two-QB leagues. If Darnold were to miss time, Jones would enter an offense with stud pass-catchers, and he still has a little bit of juice as a runner.

Daniel Jones Nov 27 8:30am CT
Daniel Jones

Free agent quarterback Daniel Jones has zeroed in on a "leading" choice and will reveal his intended signing destination to NFL teams on Wednesday, according to insider Josina Anderson, citing a high-ranking league official. It sounds like Jones will share the news of his signing within league circles today, and it's hard to imagine that news stays private for long. We've previously seen him linked to the Ravens and Vikings as he would reportedly prefer to be a backup quarterback with a contender. However, Anderson notes that the Raiders are still interested after Gardner Minshew II broke his collarbone last Sunday.

J.K. Dobbins Nov 27 8:20am CT
J.K. Dobbins

Los Angeles Chargers running back J.K. Dobbins (knee) has been diagnosed with a knee sprain, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. He has been ruled out for Week 13 against the Atlanta Falcons and could miss additional time, too. It's crushing news for the veteran running back who was in the midst of a potential Comeback Player of the Year campaign. Numerous injuries held Dobbins to just nine games over the three previous seasons, and he was already at 11 games played when he picked up his latest injury on Monday night. The 25-year-old has been a fringe top-12 fantasy running back this season and will return to the starting role once he's healthy again. In the meantime, Gus Edwards will step up as the leader within Los Angeles' backfield.

Charles Omenihu Nov 26 9:30pm CT
Charles Omenihu

Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu (knee) was listed as a full participant in the team's first practice of the week on Tuesday. The Chiefs opened Omenihu's 21-day practice window to return from the Physically Unable to Perform list on Nov. 13, so he's been practicing for a bit, but Tuesday was his first full session. The 27-year-old suffered a torn ACL in his knee in the AFC Championship against the Baltimore Ravens earlier in 2024 but could be poised to make his season debut on Friday against the division-rival Las Vegas Raiders. Before suffering the serious injury in last year's postseason, Omenihu had a career-high seven sacks in 11 games, so this is a pretty significant addition to KC's defensive line the rest of the way in 2024. The Chiefs defense will be a must-start fantasy unit against the two-win Raiders this week.

From RotoBaller

Aidan O'Connell Nov 26 8:50pm CT
Aidan O'Connell

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Aidan O'Connell (thumb) was a full participant during Tuesday's walkthrough. This is a promising sign after the Raiders designated him to return from the injured reserve to open the week. The organization is hopeful that O'Connell will be ready to play in time for Friday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs. O'Connell has been out since Week 7 due to a broken thumb. The Raiders lost quarterback Gardner Minshew II (collarbone) during Sunday's loss to the Denver Broncos. It seemed that Desmond Ridder might get a chance under center, but the Raiders plan to start O'Connell, assuming he doesn't suffer any setbacks. O'Connell isn't a horrible option under center, but offers little streaming appeal against the Chiefs defense.

From RotoBaller

Harrison Bryant Nov 26 8:50pm CT
Harrison Bryant

Las Vegas Raiders tight end Harrison Bryant (ankle) was listed as a full participant during Tuesday's walkthrough. That is an encouraging sign after Bryant has been forced to miss each of the last two games. It appears Bryant is trending in the right direction ahead of Friday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs. If active, Bryant will probably serve as the third option behind Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer. There's not enough playing time available to make Bryant worth a look in fantasy formats right now.

From RotoBaller

Tre Tucker Nov 26 8:40pm CT
Tre Tucker

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Tre Tucker (hip) was a limited participant during Tuesday's walkthrough. Tucker looked sharp over the weekend as he hauled in seven receptions for 82 yards in the loss to the Denver Broncos. He also picked up a hip injury along the way, but fantasy managers shouldn't be too concerned. The Raiders could be limiting him to open the week to keep Tucker fresh ahead of Friday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Tucker will probably be a popular waiver wire add this week, but is a risky option for Week 13 given his track record this season.

From RotoBaller

Zamir White Nov 26 8:30pm CT
Zamir White

Las Vegas Raiders running back Zamir White (quad) was unable to suit up for Tuesday's walkthrough. This is a bit concerning after White missed last week's game against the Denver Broncos due to a quad strain. The fact he sat out to open the week doesn't look good ahead of Friday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs. It's worth noting that fellow back Alexander Mattison (ankle) was able to get through a limited session on Tuesday. He figures to serve as the primary back if healthy enough to play in Week 13. Otherwise, Ameer Abdullah could have low-end RB3 value if both backs are unable to play again.

From RotoBaller

Alexander Mattison Nov 26 8:20pm CT
Alexander Mattison

Las Vegas Raiders running back Alexander Mattison (ankle) was a limited participant during Tuesday's walkthrough practice. This comes after Mattison sat out of last week's loss to the Denver Broncos due to an ankle issue. It's only a walkthrough on Tuesday, so fantasy managers shouldn't read too much into this ahead of Friday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs. If healthy, Mattison should be considered a low-end RB3 for this week. He has been hit-or-miss lately and this isn't a great matchup for Mattison. If he sits, Zamir White (quad) and Ameer Abdullah would see increased workloads.

Gardner Minshew II Nov 26 6:52pm CT
Gardner Minshew II

Dynasty | Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew will reportedly miss the rest of the season with a broken collarbone. Dynasty Analysis: Minshew had taken back over for Aidan O'Connell, but the injury he sustained this week will keep him out the rest of the season. The Raiders have been ravaged by injuries and this is the latest. On the positive front, it seems O'Connell will be back shortly to take back over the team from Desmond Ridder. As for Minshew, his dynasty value has evaporated as it looks like he's really no better than a decent backup for a team moving forward.

Chris Olave Nov 26 6:50pm CT
Chris Olave

New Orleans Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi said that wide receiver Chris Olave (concussion) is in a good place as the team begins preparing to face the Los Angeles Rams this Sunday in Week 13. Olave was present for the team's practice on Tuesday. He has seen several specialists and has another appointment coming up soon. He was placed on Injured Reserve on Nov. 9 after suffering his third concussion of 2024. The earliest the former first-rounder will be eligible to return would be for a Week 15 contest against the Washington Commanders. Since that's the start of the fantasy playoffs in most leagues, fantasy managers should keep the 24-year-old stashed. However, there's no guarantee Olave will be able to return that week or before the end of the regular season. For the foreseeable future, receivers Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Cedrick Wilson Jr. will have elevated roles for the Saints.

Chris Rodriguez Jr. Nov 26 6:50pm CT
Chris Rodriguez Jr.

The Washington Commanders announced on Tuesday that they signed running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. to their active 53-man roster from their practice squad. Both RBs Brian Robinson Jr. (ankle) and Austin Ekeler (concussion) were injured in the Week 12 loss to the division-rival Dallas Cowboys on Sunday and may not be available to play this Sunday in Week 13 against the Tennessee Titans. In addition to adding Rodriguez to the active roster, Washington worked out veteran RBs James Robinson and Boston Scott for additional insurance with it looking like they'll be without one or both of B-Rob and Ekeler this weekend. If they are both out, expect Rodriguez to at least be the RB2 behind Jeremy McNichols against Tennessee. Even in the event that happens, the 24-year-old will be hard to recommend as anything more than a desperation RB3/flex in the deepest fantasy leagues.

From RotoBaller

Tyreek Hill Nov 26 6:40pm CT
Tyreek Hill

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill (personal, wrist) was a non-participant in the team's walkthrough practice on Tuesday due to personal reasons. Hill was listed as limited on Monday's estimated practice report. The 30-year-old speedster should return to another light practice on Wednesday, the final one of the week before the team's Thursday night clash against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Hill has been playing through a wrist issue for most of the year but hasn't missed any games. He should be active in Week 13, where he should be considered a high-end WR2 for fantasy purposes. The eight-time Pro Bowler hasn't lived up to his fantasy draft stock in 2024, scoring only three times with one 100-yard game (in Week 1). The Cheetah has seen double-digit targets only twice, although two of his three scores on the year have come in the last three weeks.

Amon-Ra St. Brown Nov 26 6:30pm CT
Amon-Ra St. Brown

After being listed as a DNP on Monday, Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (knee) was listed as limited for the team's walk-through practice on Tuesday. St. Brown is dealing with a knee injury heading into the Week 13 Thanksgiving game on Thursday against the division-rival Chicago Bears, but he's planning on being available. The 25-year-old pass-catcher just broke a streak of eight straight games scoring a touchdown in the Week 12 win over the Indianapolis Colts when he had six catches for 62 yards without a score. If active, St. Brown is a must-start WR1 in fantasy in one of the best offenses in football. He ranks seventh among all wideouts with 14.9 half-PPR point per game, and his nine TDs are second to only Ja'Marr Chase's 12 among receivers. The Bears defense has allowed the sixth-fewest half-PPR points to opposing receivers this year, so St. Brown will have his work cut out for him.

From RotoBaller

Kalif Raymond Nov 26 6:30pm CT
Kalif Raymond

Detroit Lions wide receiver/kick returner Kalif Raymond (foot) was listed as a non-participant in Tuesday's practice for the second straight day, making it more unlikely that he won't be available for the team this Thursday on Thanksgiving versus the division-rival Chicago Bears. The 30-year-old is getting a second opinion on the foot injury he suffered in the Week 12 win over the Indianapolis Colts, and the Lions already expressed earlier this week that they don't love Raymond's chances of suiting up on a short week. They'll most likely hold him out against the Bears and hope he can make it back to play in Week 13 for another divisional showdown against the Green Bay Packers. His primary value to Detroit comes as their top punt returner, as he has only 16 receptions for 204 yards and two TDs on 21 targets in 11 games in 2024.
