Matt Wallner Wed Apr 16 7:20pm CT

The Minnesota Twins will be placing outfielder Matt Wallner (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list after he suffered a strained left hamstring in his first at-bat of Tuesday's game against the visiting New York Mets. It's unclear exactly who will be called up from the minors in a corresponding move. DaShawn Keirsey Jr. replaced Wallner in right field on Tuesday and also got the start there for Wednesdays 4-3 extra-inning win, going 1-for-4 with a strikeout. It's unclear if Wallner will have a shot to return from the IL when he's eligible, but until he does make it back, Keirsey figures to see a lot more playing time for the Twins in right field, making him worth a waiver-wire pickup in AL-only leagues. Wallner, a former first-rounder in 2019 out of the University of Southern Mississippi, was hitting .263/.373/.474 with an .847 OPS, a homer, five doubles, two triples and three RBI in 18 games before his injury.

Jonah Bride Wed Apr 16 7:20pm CT

The Minnesota Twins acquired infielder Jonah Bride from the Miami Marlins on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations, according to The Athletic's Dan Hayes. Bride was just designated for assignment by Miami on Tuesday, but it didn't take long for another team to come calling for his services. The Twins are placing outfielder Matt Wallner (hamstring) on the injured list, while shortstop Carlos Correa (wrist) and utility man Willi Castro (oblique) were both injured the last two days as well. The 29-year-old Bride will provide some much-needed position-player depth for the Twins for the time being, although it won't guarantee him regular at-bats with his new organization. Bride did hit .276 (64-for-232) with a career-high 11 homers and 39 RBI in 71 games in 2024 for Miami, but he started 2025 going 4-for-40 (.100) with five walks and 15 strikeouts in 12 games.

Willi Castro Wed Apr 16 7:10pm CT

Minnesota Twins utility man Willi Castro (oblique) left Wednesday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the visiting New York Mets at Target Field in the eighth inning due to mild right-oblique tightness, according to manager Rocco Baldelli. With Carlos Correa (wrist) getting injured on Tuesday, Castro started this game at shortstop and went 2-for-3 with a double before leaving late in the contest. Correa actually entered the game late as a defensive replacement at the 6, although that doesn't mean the Twins will have either Castro or Correa available to play shortstop for Friday's series opener in Atlanta against the Braves. It's good news that Castro's injury is being described as minor, but oblique injuries can be tricky. There's no guarantee he'll be available to play this weekend after an off day on Thursday. Wednesday's two-hit performance was only Castro's third multi-hit game of the young season.

Brett Sullivan Wed Apr 16 7:10pm CT

The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired catcher Brett Sullivan from the San Diego Padres in exchange for outfielder Bryce Johnson and cash considerations. Sullivan will provide some much-needed catching depth in the Steel City with Endy Rodriguez (finger) on the 10-day injured list and Joey Bart (back) battling an injury. Last season, Sullivan appeared in seven games for the Padres. Across this brief stint, he held a .188 AVG. Sullivan made his MLB debut during the 2023 season with San Diego and held a .210/.244/.284 slash line across 33 contests. Across 375 contests at the Triple-A level, Sullivan has posted a .271/.342/.449 slash line. Fantasy managers should expect Sullivan to begin his tenure with the Pirates at Triple-A, but he should push for a return to the majors.

Will Smith Wed Apr 16 7:00pm CT

Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Will Smith will start on the bench in Wednesday's series finale against the division-rival Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium. Austin Barnes will do the catching for right-hander Bobby Miller and will hit in the nine-hole against Rockies right-hander German Marquez. The 30-year-old Smith remains one of the best hitting catchers in baseball and has been proving it early on in 2025, slashing .367/.475/.551 with a 1.026 OPS, two home runs, 12 RBI, six runs scored and a stolen base in 49 total at-bats. He hit his second homer in Tuesday's 6-2 win. He's been especially hot the last three games, going 6-for-12 with a homer and five runs driven in. Although Barnes has hit .286 with a homer and three RBI in 14 career at-bats against Marquez, he'll have little DFS upside at the bottom of the batting order on Wednesday.

Teoscar Hernandez Wed Apr 16 6:50pm CT

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez (illness) is back in right field and is hitting cleanup for Wednesday's series finale against the division-rival Colorado Rockies and veteran right-hander German Marquez. Hernandez was feeling under the weather and missed the first two games of the series against Colorado, but he'll return for the finale and should be reinserted into fantasy lineups. The 32-year-old put up a career year in 2024 in his first year in Hollywood and also won a World Series ring. As long as he stays healthy, he should be plenty productive hitting in the heart of one of the most stacked lineups in baseball. In 17 games so far in 2025, he's hit .281 (18-for-64) with five home runs, three doubles, 16 RBI and two stolen bases for his fantasy managers. Hernandez has never faced Marquez in his career.

Landon Knack Wed Apr 16 6:50pm CT

The Los Angeles Dodgers have optioned right-handed pitcher Landon Knack to Triple-A Oklahoma City. In a corresponding move, the Dodgers have promoted right-handed pitcher Bobby Miller to the major leagues. Knack has made three appearances for the Dodgers this season (two starts) and logged eight 2/3 innings to the tune of a 7.27 ERA and a 1.73 WHIP. During this brief stint, Knack has struck out seven batters and served up six free passes. Fantasy managers should expect Knack to be in the mix to return to the majors later in the summer when the Dodgers need additional depth in the majors. Last summer, Knack was effective in his MLB debut, tossing 69 innings with a 3.65 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP. Knack is not worth rostering in any formats while he is with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Hunter Dobbins Wed Apr 16 6:40pm CT

Boston Red Sox pitching prospect Hunter Dobbins could get the starting nod on Friday evening when the Red Sox host the Chicago White Sox. Dobbins made his MLB debut earlier in April and tossed five innings of two-run ball against the St. Louis Cardinals on April 6. In this outing, Dobbins allowed eight hits, two walks, and struck out five. Manager Alex Cora noted that there is a "good chance" Dobbins gets the call. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to Friday's contest. On MLB Pipeline, Dobbins is considered the No. 14-ranked prospect in the Boston system. He has also spent time with Triple-A Worcester this season and allowed eight runs in six 2/3 innings. If he does get the call for Friday's match, he would be worth a look as a streaming option in deep formats in a favorable matchup.

Brenton Doyle Wed Apr 16 6:40pm CT

Colorado Rockies outfielder Brenton Doyle (quadriceps) will miss his sixth straight game in Wednesday's series finale against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers. Doyle continues to recover from left-quadriceps soreness, but with a day off on Thursday, his fantasy managers will be hoping that he'll be feeling good enough to return to the field for Friday's series opener against the Washington Nationals. But if the 26-year-old is unable to go on Friday or at some point over the weekend, this could turn into an injured-list situation. The former fourth-rounder is a fantasy stud when healthy and is currently batting .321 (17-for-53) with three home runs, 12 RBI, a steal and seven runs scored. Doyle is a must-start in fantasy if he's active. Mickey Moniak is starting in center field and is hitting seventh on Wednesday against Dodgers right-hander Bobby Miller, who is making his first MLB start of 2025.

    From RotoBaller

Drake Baldwin Wed Apr 16 6:30pm CT

Atlanta Braves catching prospect Drake Baldwin went 1-for-4 with a home run during Wednesday's loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. This was Baldwin's first career MLB home run. He would hit the home run off Toronto closer Jeff Hoffman in the ninth inning. Baldwin opened the season as the team's primary backstop with Sean Murphy (rib) on the injured list. However, with Murphy back in action, Baldwin has fallen back to the No. 2 spot. Despite his limited playing time as of late, the 24-year-old has been heating up at the plate. Entering Wednesday's game, Baldwin held a strong .400/.471/.533 slash line over his last four contests. Fantasy managers in two-catcher formats should continue to hold the Missouri State product as he will still hold value given his emerging bat.

    From RotoBaller

Zac Veen Wed Apr 16 6:30pm CT

Colorado Rockies outfielder Zac Veen is not in Wednesday's lineup when the Rockies continue a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Veen has been in the starting nine in each of the first eight games since getting the call to the big leagues. During his first taste of the majors, the 23-year-old has held an underwhelming .107/.167/.143 slash line with one double. Instead, the Rockies will give Sean Bouchard the starting nod in left field. He will bat in the eight-hole. Fantasy managers should expect Veen to return to the starting nine on Friday when they start a series against the Washington Nationals. Even though Veen has had a slow start to his MLB career, he should continue to be stashed in deeper category formats given his speed upside.

    From RotoBaller

Josh Smith Wed Apr 16 6:20pm CT

Texas Rangers utility man Josh Smith (thumb) is out of the starting lineup for the second straight day on Wednesday as the team continues their series against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels. Dustin Harris will make the start in left field and will hit sixth against Angels right-hander Jose Soriano. It doesn't sound like Smith's injury is very serious, so there's a chance he could be back in the lineup for Thursday's series finale against the Angels. With Wyatt Langford (oblique) on the injured list, the 27-year-old utility man had been seeing action in left field for the Rangers. Smith has been excellent at the plate, going 13-for-38 (.342) with a homer, three RBI, three steals and eight runs scored. He lacks power but makes plenty of contact and is useful in deeper fantasy leagues for his positional versatility. Harris will be playing in just his sixth big-league game on Wednesday.

    From RotoBaller

Jake Burger Wed Apr 16 5:50pm CT

Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger (illness) is back at first base and is hitting seventh for the Rangers on Wednesday against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels and right-hander Jose Soriano at Globe Life Park. Burger missed the series-opening win over the Halos on Tuesday with a mild illness but will return for the second game of the series. The 29-year-old right-handed power hitter has gotten off to a slow start in his first year in Texas, going 8-for-53 (.151) with two home runs, two doubles, seven RBI, only one walk and 15 strikeouts in 15 games played. Although he resides in a strong Rangers lineup, the fact that he's hitting near the bottom of the order gives him a low fantasy ceiling for DFS gamers. Burger has never faced Soriano in his career.

    From RotoBaller

Jacob Wilson Wed Apr 16 5:40pm CT

Athletics shortstop Jacob Wilson is not in the team's starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Chicago White Sox in Chicago. Rookie Max Muncy will take his place at shortstop and will hit ninth against White Sox right-hander Jonathan Cannon. This will be Wilson's first day off of the 2025 season. The 23-year-old prospect and former sixth overall pick in 2023 out of Grand Canyon University has lived up to expectations so far this and entered Wednesday's action slashing .333/.333/.485 with an .818 OPS, two homers, eight RBI and 11 runs scored for fantasy managers. Expect him to be back in the lineup for Thursday's series finale against the White Sox. Muncy, another first-rounder, has been a bit overmatched at the plate in his first 16 MLB games, going 10-for-54 (.185) with a homer, four doubles, four RBI, on walk and 16 strikeouts. He should be avoided as a DFS play in the nine-hole.

    From RotoBaller

    Logan O'Hoppe Wed Apr 16 5:40pm CT

Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe (finger) will be out of the starting lineup for the second straight day on the road in Texas against the division-rival Rangers on Wednesday. O'Hoppe began to feel ill during an off day on Monday and will miss the first two games of the series at Globe Life Field. There's a good chance he'll be back behind the dish for Thursday's series finale against the Rangers. The 25-year-old backstop has been a must-start catcher in fantasy in the early going, batting .333 (16-for-48) with five home runs, nine RBI and seven runs scored in his first 13 games of 2025. Travis d'Arnaud will do the catching again on Wednesday and will hit fifth against Rangers left-hander Patrick Corbin. Although d'Arnaud has gone just 2-for-22 at the plate this year, he's worth a look in DFS thanks to a .444 career average against Corbin in 18 at-bats.

    From RotoBaller

Jonathan Aranda Wed Apr 16 5:30pm CT

Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Jonathan Aranda and second baseman Brandon Lowe will both start on the bench against a left-hander on Wednesday against the division-rival Boston Red Sox. Curtis Mead will make the start at first base and will bat second, while Coco Montes is starting at second and hitting seventh against Red Sox left-hander Sean Newcomb. Aranda is hitting a strong .414 (19-for-46) on the year with three home runs, 11 RBI and 10 runs scored, but the Mexican slugger has yet to start in 2025 against a southpaw. Lowe has only made one start this year against a lefty, and like Aranda, he also has three home runs on the season in 61 at-bats. Mead has DFS upside as a deep sleeper in the two-hole on Wednesday, but he's gone just 4-for-22 in the early going for Tampa with an RBI and a run scored. Still, he's the better DFS sleeper option than Montes.

Trevor Rogers Wed Apr 16 5:20pm CT

Baltimore Orioles left-hander Trevor Rogers (knee) will face live hitters in Sarasota, Fla., next week and could return from the 15-day injured list before the end of May, according to general manager Mike Elias. Rogers is working his way back from a subluxation of his right knee and might not be far off from going on a minor-league rehab assignment. The 27-year-old southpaw, who was a former 13th overall pick by the Miami Marlins in 2017, was acquired in a trade with Miami last year to bolster Baltimore's starting rotation. The former All-Star was a disaster in his four starts for the O's, though, going 0-2 with a 7.11 ERA and 1.84 WHIP in 19 innings, and was eventually sent to the minors. With minor-league options remaining, there's no guarantee that Rogers will rejoin the team's big-league starting rotation when he's recovered from his knee injury.

    From RotoBaller

Kristian Campbell Wed Apr 16 5:20pm CT

Boston Red Sox rookie second baseman Kristian Campbell is taking the day off for Wednesday's contest against the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field. He will be replaced at second base by David Hamilton, who will hit eighth against struggling Rays right-hander Zack Littell. Campbell will get a breather after starting each of the team's last eight games. One of the team's top prospects coming into the year, the 22-year-old earned an Opening Day roster spot as the starting second baseman and has not disappointed in his first 18 games, hitting .302/.392/.508 with a .900 OPS, three homers, four RBI, six RBI, a steal, 11 runs scored, 10 walks and 18 strikeouts. He should be back in there after an off day on Thursday in Friday's series opener against the Chicago White Sox. Hamilton offers very little offensive upside at the bottom of the batting order and has just one hit in 21 at-bats this year.

    From RotoBaller

Tyler Wells Wed Apr 16 5:00pm CT

Baltimore Orioles right-hander Tyler Wells (elbow) will begin to throw off a mound within the next two weeks, according to general manager Mike Elias. Barring a setback while recovering from a UCL repair, Wells could return in the latter half of the summer. Wells had a UCL revision and an internal-brace procedure last June, which will keep him out until at least the second half of the season. For that reason, he should remain on the waiver wire in most fantasy leagues for most, if not all, of 2025. The 30-year-old former 15th-round pick by the Minnesota Twins in 2016 out of California State University -- San Bernardino only made three starts before being shut down last year, so he'll most likely have a limited workload whenever he returns. He had a career-best 3.64 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 117:34 K:BB in 118 2/3 innings with the O's in 2023.

    From RotoBaller

Andrew Kittredge Wed Apr 16 4:40pm CT

Baltimore Orioles right-handed reliever Andrew Kittredge's (knee) recovery from left-knee surgery is "flying along," according to general manager Mike Elias. Kittredge will throw live batting practice the week after next before going on a minor-league rehab assignment. Barring a setback along the way, the 35-year-old veteran could return from the injured list before the end of May. Kittredge threw his first bullpen session over the weekend after having arthroscopic knee surgery. It sounds like he is recovery very nicely, but he might still be over a month away from making his debut with the Orioles. When healthy, Kittredge figures to be in the mix as a high-leverage, late-inning bullpen arm for the O's. He was an All-Star in 2021 and had a 2.80 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and one save in 70 2/3 innings with the St. Louis Cardinals a year ago. He hasn't had an ERA over 3.15 since 2019 and also sports 16 career saves.
