New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso left Wednesday's game in the first inning after he was hit on the right hand by Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher James Paxton.

Alonso checked his swing on the pitch and initially appeared to foul the ball off. But Alonso yelled in pain and fell to his knees before getting back up. He was visited by a trainer before exiting and being replaced by pinch runner Brett Baty. Mark Vientos replaced Alonso at first, with Baty taking 3B.

The Mets said Alonso would undergo imaging on the hand. Alonso, 29, started each of the first 54 games this season and has played in all but 25 of New York's 763 games since he reached the majors in 2019.

Alonso is batting .231 with 12 home runs and 26 RBIs this season. A three-time All-Star and the 2019 National League Rookie of the Year, he is a career .249 hitter with 204 homers and 524 RBIs.
