San Diego Padres starting pitcher Dylan Cease earned his first win of the season with a strong outing on Wednesday afternoon, holding the Guardians to one run on four hits in 6 1/3 innings at Petco Park. Cease picked up seven strikeouts and had a shutout going before running into trouble in the seventh. The bullpen finished the job, though, and the Padres held on for the 5-2 victory to complete the sweep and improve to an impressive 7-0. For Cease, it was a nice bounce-back outing after giving up three runs and only lasting 4 1/3 innings in his first start of the season against the Braves. He was back in his ace form on Wednesday and will look to keep rolling in his next start, which is scheduled for next Tuesday against the Athletics in hitter-friendly Sutter Health Park.

Minnesota Twins outfielder Harrison Bader went 1-for-4 in Wednesday's 6-1 victory over the White Sox, but his one hit was a decisive one. He smashed a three-run home run to left on the first pitch he saw from Sean Burke in the fourth inning. The Twins lead went from 1-0 to a much more comfortable 4-0 with the blast, and the team cruised to a second straight win after an 0-4 start. The home run was already Bader's third blast of the season, and he has gone 4-for-16 (.250) in his five games, with all four of his hits for extra bases and eight RBI. He and the Twins are back in action on Thursday afternoon for their home opener against Houston and Hunter Brown. Bader's quick start could lead to full-time at-bats, and since he brings good speed potential along with his power surge, he's worth a look as at least a short-term solution in mixed leagues.
From RotoBaller
Boston Red Sox shortstop prospect Marcelo Mayer went deep for his second-straight game on Wednesday evening. In this contest, Mayer went 1-for-4 with a two-run shot that also scored fellow top prospect Roman Anthony. Since going 0-for-4 in his Triple-A debut on March 28, Mayer has tallied at least one hit in each of his past three. During this recent surge, he has posted two multi-hit outings with seven RBI and three runs. Last season, the former fourth overall pick spent his entire campaign at the Double-A level, where he held a strong .307/.370/.480 slash line. Mayer did get the call to Triple-A but was never able to appear in a contest due to hip and back injuries. Fantasy managers should continue to closely monitor Mayer's production with Worcester, as he should be in the mix for a 2025 debut.
From RotoBaller
St. Louis Cardinals second base prospect Michael Helman went 3-for-6 with four runs and one RBI during their 15-3 victory over Triple-A Buffalo. Helman hit two doubles in this contest. His single in the opening frame scored infielder Thomas Saggese. The 28-year-old infielder was competing for a spot on the Opening Day roster during camp but fell short. However, Helman could be in the mix for an early-season promotion if he continues to swing a hot bat at the top level of the minor leagues. Last season, Helman appeared in his first nine MLB games and tallied three hits with two doubles. Across 199 career games at Triple-A, the Texas A&M product has held a .263/.336/.458 slash line with 44 doubles and 34 round-trippers. He is worth monitoring in deeper NL-only leagues for the time being.
From RotoBaller
Chicago Cubs third base prospect Matt Shaw went 2-for-4 with two RBI during their 10-2 victory over the Athletics on Wednesday afternoon. In the third inning, Shaw hit an RBI single, which scored Justin Turner. Later in the seventh, he would bring outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong home on his second single. Since posting a .118/.167/.118 slash line through his first four games in the major leagues, the former first-round pick has begun to flip the script. Over his last five games, the Maryland product has posted an impressive .294/.429/.529 slash line with one double and one long ball. He has held a 4:5 BB:K over this stretch. Last summer, the 23-year-old posted an elite .298/.395/.534 line through his first 35 games at Triple-A. Fantasy managers should continue to expect the Cubs to provide Shaw an everyday opportunity at the hot corner, as long as he continues this production.
From RotoBaller
Athletics shortstop prospect Jacob Wilson extended his hitting streak to seven games during Wednesday's loss to the Chicago Cubs. In this contest, Wilson went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double. This was his first multi-hit outing of the regular season. Over his previous six games, Wilson tallied at least one hit in all of them. He hit his first career MLB home run on March 31. The former sixth overall selection received a brief taste of the major leagues last season before suffering a season-ending hamstring injury. However, he was able to win the starting shortstop job during camp and has become a valuable asset in all fantasy formats. Through seven games this season, the 23-year-old has held an overall .375/.375/.542 slash line with three runs and two RBI. Even though he typically bats at the back-half of the lineup, he is a viable starting middle infielder in all leagues, especially if you are looking to boost your batting average production.

Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story turned in a big game in a 3-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday. Story went 3-for-4 with a solo homer to help power Boston to the victory over their division rivals. The veteran shortstop took Baltimore starter Zach Eflin deep in the second inning on a blast that traveled 394 feet with an exit velocity of 102.2 MPH. Story has been off to a slow start this season as he had just two hits coming into the game. He will hope his three-hit performance on Wednesday jump-starts his bat going forward.
From RotoBaller
Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman went 2-for-3 with a double and a homer in a 5-1 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday. Goodman was one of the lone bright spots for the Rockies in the loss as they fell to 1-4 on the season. The 25-year-old catcher is off to a fast start this season, hitting .368 with three doubles, two homers, three runs, and three RBI through 19 at-bats. After hitting 13 homers in just 211 at-bats in 2024, Goodman is emerging as an interesting fantasy catcher in all leagues.
From RotoBaller
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. turned in a productive game in a 4-3 win over the New York Yankees on Wednesday. Gurriel went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk to help power Arizona to the win. He kicked off the scoring in the game with a one-out, two-run homer off New York starter Carlos Rodon in the first inning, a blast that traveled 399 feet with an exit velocity of 106.8 MPH. Gurriel is now hitting .217 with two homers, four runs, and five RBI through 23 at-bats this season.
From RotoBaller
Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Tommy Edman went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk in a 6-5 win over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday. Edman launched 415-foot blast off Atlanta starter Bryce Elder in the fourth inning, giving him four homers in 31 at-bats in the early going. The veteran infielder should continue to put up counting stats this season hitting in the middle of a loaded Los Angeles lineup. He will be off on Thursday before the Dodgers open up a three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday.
From RotoBaller
New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in a 4-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday. Volpe tried to make the game interesting with his three-run shot off Arizona closer A.J. Puk in the bottom of the ninth but the Yankees ultimately fell one run short of tying the game. The veteran shortstop is showing plenty of power to begin the season with four homers in his first 20 at-bats. Volpe will look to stay hot on Thursday as the Yankees conclude their series with the D-Backs.
From RotoBaller
Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton turned in an excellent game in a 6-1 win over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. Buxton went 2-for-4 with a double, a homer, two runs, and two RBI to help power the Twins to their second win of the season. His homer was a first-inning solo shot off Chicago starter Sean Burke, a blast that traveled 444 feet with an exit velocity of 111.7 MPH. Buxton had been off to a slow start before Wednesday as he came into the game with just two hits in 17 at-bats. He will look to keep it going as the Twins open up a four-game series against the Houston Astros on Thursday.
From RotoBaller
Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe turned in a big day in a 10-5 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday. O'Hoppe went 1-for-4 with a grand slam and a strikeout in the losing effort. The veteran catcher gave the Angels a brief 5-3 lead with his seventh-inning homer with the bases loaded but the Los Angeles bullpen was unable to hold onto it. O'Hoppe is now hitting .188 with two homers, two runs, and five RBI through 16 at-bats in the early going. After he showed some power in 2024 with 20 homers, O'Hoppe seems to be picking up where he left off in the power department, although fantasy managers would like to see him raise his batting average a bit.
From RotoBaller
Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner turned in a productive outing in a 10-2 win over the Athletics on Wednesday. Hoerner went 1-for-4 with two runs, an RBI, a walk, and two steals to help propel Chicago to the win. The veteran infielder is off to a fast start in 2025, picking up eight hits, three RBI, and three steals through his first 24 at-bats. Hoerner doesn't hit for much power but he has shown to be an excellent source of stolen bases in fantasy with 97 steals since the start of the 2022 season. He will look to stay hot moving forward.
From RotoBaller
Seattle Mariners third baseman Dylan Moore turned in a solid game in a 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday. Moore went 1-for-1 with a homer, two runs, two walks, and a steal in the close win over Detroit. The veteran launched his first homer of the season off 2024 Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal in the fourth inning in what would be the Mariners' final run of the game. Moore is off to a fast start in 2025, picking up three hits and three walks across five contests for a .375 batting average. This was Moore's first steal of the season after he swiped 32 bags for the Mariners last year. He will look to stay hot going forward.
From RotoBaller
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Oneil Cruz went 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI, and a steal in a 4-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday. Cruz launched a solo shot off Tampa starter Ryan Pepiot in the fifth inning, giving him his second homer of the season. He later came back and added another RBI on a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning. Cruz is now hitting .261 with two homers, four runs, four RBI, and six steals across 23 at-bats in the early going as he looks to build on his first 20/20 season in 2024.
From RotoBaller
San Diego Padres first baseman Luis Arraez went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, two runs, and a stolen base in a 5-2 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday. Arraez gave the Padres an insurance run with his solo shot off Tim Herrin in the seventh inning. The veteran infielder had been off to a slow start in 2025 with just two hits in 23 at-bats coming into the game. Arraez is not known for his home-run stroke as he hit just four homers in 637 at-bats during the 2024 season, so fantasy managers shouldn't start him expecting him to carry them in the power department despite his performance on Wednesday. He will hope his big game turns around his early-season fortune moving forward.
From RotoBaller
Cubs' LF Seiya Suzuki had five RBIs going 3-for-5 with two home runs in a 10-2 win over Las Vegas on Wednesday, Apr. 2.
Royals' SP Cole Ragans recorded 10 strikeouts in 5 innings in a 3-2 loss to Milwaukee on Wednesday, Apr. 2.
Arizona Diamondbacks' SP Zac Gallen recorded 13 strikeouts in 6.2 innings collecting the win in a 4-3 win over the Yankees on Wednesday, Apr. 2.
