Hard to bet against Mahomes
It is hard to believe but here we are in the last week of the season. Time sure does fly, right? Super Bowl Sunday is one of the greatest days of the year but also a sad one, seeing the football season come to an end for another year. The good news is it seems the offseason is shorter and shorter every year, so don’t get too down after the game this weekend. Football will be back before you know it. Enjoy the game, though.
Now for my random thoughts for the week. . . . .
I think the Super Bowl is going to be a great one. These teams are pretty evenly matched in my view but I just think the Chiefs get it done once again. They just find ways to win and Patrick Mahomes is that “X” factor in my view. Mahomes makes big play after big play in the playoffs and I expect more of the same this weekend. I can see Mahomes running more than normal - much like he has all these playoffs. He makes the big play for his team when needed. I think the Chiefs do enough to win the game, coming out on top 28-24.
I can see why the Rams are planning to trade Cooper Kupp. He is not getting any younger and hasn’t produced quite the same in recent years. Injuries are always a concern for Kupp. I still think he has a few good years left, though, and could be a big fantasy factor once again, depending on his landing spot. I would love to see him land in Buffalo, making him Josh Allen’s top target in the passing game. That seems like a great fit for Kupp. We’ll see.
The draft should be interesting this year. There isn’t quite the quarterback class of last year, but plenty of needy teams for a franchise quarterback. This could drive up the price of some players that shouldn’t be drafted so high. Now the running back class is stacked in my view with a lot of top options. You could see running backs taken sooner than in recent seasons and make an immediate impact in fantasy circles. The receiver class is a little top heavy in my view and drops off in a hurry from the top options. Last season was stacked with a host of elite options but that isn’t nearly the case this year. It should be another fun draft. I know I’m looking forward to seeing it all shake out.
It would be nice if the NFL was more like the NBA, seeing some real movement in the trade market. This just doesn’t happen in the NFL. It sure is exciting when elite players are dealt, though. I would love it if the NFL trade deadline had more movement. It just doesn’t happen and I don’t see that changing. I think the best chance of blockbuster trades come around the NFL draft. Hopefully, that is the case this year.
One of the most interesting players in free agency this year is Sam Darnold. I’m really anxious to see where he lands and the deal he gets. He had a breakout season but fizzled down the stretch, leading to more question marks about him as a top NFL starter. If he moves to a team with fewer weapons than the Vikings, can he still be that elite starter? That is the big question. It will be fascinating to see what teams view him as this offseason.
Lastly, have a great Super Bowl Sunday. This is the last Lineup Prep until before Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season. It has been a great year and I appreciate everyone reading during the season. We have the best users on RTSports and I’m blessed to be part of this community.
HOT PLAYS
Patrick Mahomes, QB, Chiefs. Mahomes might have been a little quiet during the regular season for his standards but is showing up in the playoffs once again. He had his highest scoring fantasy game of the season against the Bills, scoring 33.55 fantasy points. Mahomes had three total touchdowns and threw for 245 yards. He just comes up big in the big game, so look for more of the same this week for Mahomes.
DeVonta Smith, WR, Eagles. Smith has been pretty quiet in the playoffs, having four receptions for 66 yards in two games on eight targets. He has been the third option most weeks in the passing game of late. That could change this week, though, playing a Chiefs team he has historically produced some huge games. For his career, Smith has at least 99 yards all three of his games against the Chiefs. He has two 100-yard games of those three. Don’t get too worried about his down production of late. Smith can get it going this week.
COLD PLAYS
Kareem Hunt, RB, Chiefs. Hunt seems to have moved ahead of Isiah Pacheco for now, playing 58 percent of the snaps last week compared to 29 percent for Pacheco in their last game. He is the fantasy back to use in the Kansas City offense for now. But even with that said, he isn't a top fantasy play. His touchdowns are the only thing driving up his fantasy value. If you take away his scores each of the last two games, his numbers are very mediocre. He has 25 carries for 110 yards and just two catchers for eight yards. We aren’t sure he finds the end zone this week against the Eagles, a team that allowed the second fewest fantasy points to running backs. This makes Hunt an iffy fantasy play.
DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Chiefs. Hopkins has just a catch for 11 yards on three targets in the Chiefs two playoff games. He is a hard player to trust right now. Hopkins has not topped 50 yards in a game since Week 13. It could be more of the same this week for Hopkins. He gets an Eagles team that allowed the eighth fewest fantasy points to receivers and was first overall against the pass during the regular season.
SLEEPERS
JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, Chiefs. There always seems to be a receiver that surprises in the Super Bowl. We think it might be Smith-Schuster this year. He played 58 percent of the snaps his last game, which was the third most for any receiver. He was on the field a lot and had two catches for 60 yards. If he can get that much playing time again this week, look for him to make a big play or two for the Chiefs.
Dallas Goedert, TE, Eagles. Goedert has at least four receptions four straight games. He had seven receptions for 85 yards on eight targets and two rushes for 13 yards his last game against the Commanders. Goedert is getting his weekly chances since returning from injury in Week 18. We look for more of the same this week against the Chiefs, a team that allowed the sixth most fantasy points to tight ends this season.
High/Low Scoring Games
Each week we will take a look at some of the high and low scoring games for the coming week. In high scoring affairs, get your marginal players on those teams in your lineup to take advantage of the possible points barrage. And in the low scoring games, keep those marginal players on the bench and make sure to have your defenses involved in those contests.
High Scoring Games: Eagles/Chiefs.
Low Scoring Games: None.

Baltimore Ravens kicker Tyler Loop has played well so far this season. He made both attempts in Week 1 in the loss to the Bills, with one of them taking place from beyond the 50-yard mark. The 24-year-old followed up that performance by sinking as many kicks in the Week 2 win over the Cleveland Browns. While the season is still young, Loop is already one of the top fantasy kickers going. With the Ravens and Lions expected to feature plenty of scoring on Monday night, Loop could continue to have plenty of opportunities to produce for fantasy managers. Keep him starting.

Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews had a career-high 11 touchdowns last season. As a result, many expected another stellar campaign out of the 30-year-old in 2025. However, things didn't gone well for Andrews in the Ravens' first two contests of the year. He had only one catch for five yards in the Sunday night loss to the Buffalo Bills. Andrews got a free pass from fantasy managers for that one, although he didn't do much to make amends in Week 2 against Cleveland, finishing with one reception for two yards. While it's only been two games, managers are already sounding the alarm. Still, Andrews should be allowed a few more chances to turn things around, so he's worth considering for fantasy lineups ahead of the Monday night encounter with the Lions.
From RotoBaller
Detroit Lions wide receiver Kalif Raymond has recorded three catches for 30 yards on four targets through his first two games of 2025. Raymond has been the team's primary WR3 alongside Amon Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, but he could eventually fall behind rookie wideout Isaac TeSlaa. After playing 44 snaps in Week 1, Raymond played 32 snaps in Week 2. In contrast, TeSlaa's snap count went up by 14 plays from Week 1 to Week 2. The veteran Raymond will likely still see the field a decent amount in Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens, but he should remain off the radar of fantasy managers.
From RotoBaller
Detroit Lions rookie wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa only has two catches in 2025, but both have been ridiculous one-handed grabs. TeSlaa saw his snap count jump from just three in Week 1 to 17 in Week 2, so it appears Detroit is slowly working him in as a rookie. The 23-year-old brings contested-catch ability as an outside receiver that potentially differentiates him from Lions wideouts Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Kalif Raymond. Detroit may be forced to throw the ball a lot in Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens in a game that could turn into a high-scoring affair. Still, TeSlaa has a ways to go before he can be trusted as a productive fantasy wide receiver. TeSlaa should be stashed on the end of deeper-league benches, but he should not be started by fantasy managers in Week 3.
From RotoBaller
Detroit Lions kicker Jake Bates recorded his first missed field goal attempt of 2025 in Week 2, a 55-yard try against the Chicago Bears. Still, Bates had a solid fantasy day by knocking in all seven of his extra-point attempts and nailing a 34-yard field goal. The Lions will leave the friendly confines of Ford Field and head outdoors in Week 3 for a road matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. The weather shouldn't be an issue for Bates on Monday night, and the Lions may be forced to push the ball downfield and hunt points to keep up with the high-powered Baltimore offense. Bates profiles as a low-end top-12 fantasy kicker in Week 3.
From RotoBaller
Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta was one of the only Lions not to have a big day in the team's 52-21 Week 2 win over the Chicago Bears. LaPorta recorded just three catches for 26 yards against Chicago, bringing his season totals to nine catches and 105 yards on 13 targets. The 24-year-old now faces the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3 on Monday Night Football. In LaPorta's lone career matchup against Baltimore back in 2023, he recorded six catches for 52 yards on seven targets. He appears in line to battle wide receiver Jameson Williams and running back Jahmyr Gibbs to finish second on Detroit in targets behind wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown. LaPorta is a must-start fantasy tight end.
From RotoBaller
Baltimore Ravens wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has played well enough for fantasy managers this season. While he's only logged 28 offensive snaps, the fourth-highest mark at the position on the team, he has made the most of his limited opportunities. In the Week 1 narrow loss to the Buffalo Bills, the 33-year-old secured both of his targets for 35 yards and a score. Hopkins had just as many receptions versus the Cleveland Browns while adding another touchdown to his resume. With Zay Flowers the top wideout on the depth chart, it appears the No. 2 spot is unofficially up for grabs. Although Rashod Bateman and Tylan Wallace are still in the equation, Hopkins has done enough to at least earn flex consideration in deeper fantasy formats for the Week 3 meeting with the Detroit Lions.
From RotoBaller
Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman has logged 70 offensive snaps so far this season, the second-highest mark at the position behind Zay Flowers. However, Bateman hasn't done much, amassing only four receptions (eight targets) for 25 yards. Without question, Flowers is the No. 1 wideout on the depth chart. Besides Flowers, Lamar Jackson has relied more on DeAndre Hopkins, who has found the end zone in each of Baltimore's first two contests. With that in mind, Bateman could be a factor at some point moving forward. Still, he's hard to trust. Fantasy managers should only consider him a starting option in Week 3 versus the Detroit Lions if there are no other options available.
From RotoBaller
Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams recorded 102 receiving yards and a touchdown against the Chicago Bears in Week 2, but he logged only two catches and has been targeted just nine times through his first two games of 2025. Williams' big-play potential is obvious. Still, his reliance on explosive plays over reception volume makes him difficult for fantasy managers to trust. On the plus side, Williams will face the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3, who have allowed the second-most receptions of 20+ yards (10) in the NFL this season. Baltimore ranked 30th in the same category in 2024, so Williams could have multiple chances to make a big play in Week 3. The 24-year-old profiles as a high-end WR3/flex option on Monday night against Baltimore.
From RotoBaller
Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown dominated the Chicago Bears in Week 2, recording nine catches for 115 yards and three touchdowns. He's now faced with a much tougher test against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3. St. Brown has been the clear number one option for Lions quarterback Jared Goff in the early going, leading Detroit with 17 targets. In his lone career game against the Ravens back in 2023, St. Brown was targeted by Goff a whopping 19 times, hauling in 13 catches for 102 yards. Expect Goff to lean on St. Brown heavily again, especially if Baltimore gets an early lead and forces Detroit into a pass-heavy game script. St. Brown is a must-start fantasy wide receiver in all formats in Week 3.
From RotoBaller
Baltimore Ravens running back Justice Hill hasn't done much from a statistical standpoint so far this season. He received just two carries in the Week 1 narrow loss to the Buffalo Bills. While the 27-year-old had an extra attempt in the Week 2 win over the Cleveland Browns, he would finish that one with only seven yards. Most weren't expecting Hill to be a routine contributor throughout the 2025 campaign, considering Derrick Henry is in the mix. That's not expected to change anytime soon. Although Hill seemingly has a firm grasp on the No. 2 spot on the depth chart over Rasheen Ali, who has logged only one offensive snap in the Ravens' first two contests, it doesn't mean much heading into the Monday night meeting with the Detroit Lions. Keep him out of all fantasy lineups.
From RotoBaller
Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs was highly efficient in Week 2, recording 104 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown on 15 total touches. The 23-year-old has been heavily featured as both a rusher and a receiver in the early going with 21 carries and 13 catches through his team's first two games. Gibbs will face a Ravens defense in Week 3 that is historically tough to run on, but will be missing star defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike (neck). In his lone career matchup against Baltimore back in 2023, Gibbs recorded 126 yards from scrimmage on 11 carries and nine receptions. Fantasy managers should expect Detroit to continue finding ways to get the ball in Gibbs' hands. He remains a must-start running back in Week 3.
From RotoBaller
Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery recorded 57 rushing yards and a touchdown in Week 2 against the Chicago Bears. The veteran back has logged exactly 11 carries in each of the team's first two games. He should be in line for a similar workload in Week 3, but may have a more difficult time finding the end zone against the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore allowed just 12 rushing touchdowns as a team last season, although it's worth noting they've already allowed three through the first two games of 2025. Additionally, star Ravens defensive lineman Nnamdi Madubuike (neck) will miss Week 3 with a neck injury. Montgomery has been out-snapped and out-touched by Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs in each of Detroit's first two games and is likely reliant on finding the end zone to provide quality fantasy production. Montgomery profiles as a solid flex option in Week 3 against Baltimore.
From RotoBaller
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff dominated the Chicago Bears in Week 2, completing 23 of 28 pass attempts for 334 yards and five touchdowns. The 30-year-old will now face a significantly tougher test in Week 3 as the Lions travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens on Monday Night Football. The last time Detroit played in Baltimore back in 2023, Goff struggled. He completed 33 of 53 pass attempts for 284 yards but threw an interception and did not have a touchdown. The Ravens' defense has allowed the second-most passing yards per game (298.5) so far this season, so Detroit's passing game may have some success. Still, Goff profiles outside the top-12 at his position for fantasy in Week 3 and should be avoided where possible in single-QB formats.
From RotoBaller
Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers has stepped up and filled the role as the No. 1 wideout on this roster. Through two games, Flowers has hauled in 14 of his 20 targets for 218 yards with one touchdown. Fantasy managers love seeing the chemistry between Flowers and quarterback Lamar Jackson grow each week. The two of them head into a favorable matchup against the Detroit Lions in Week 3. Flowers wasn't elite last week, but should remain plugged in as a WR1 for this Monday night contest.
From RotoBaller
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has done exactly what fantasy managers expected of him. Through two games, Jackson has thrown for 434 yards with six touchdowns and zero interceptions. He has also added an additional 83 yards on eight rushing attempts with another score on the ground. Jackson has looked sharp through his first two games and that should continue in Week 3. He'll draw an elite matchup against the Detroit Lions on Monday night. There's few quarterbacks that will be a better option than Jackson for Week 3. Fantasy managers need to lock him into their lineups as a high-end QB1.
From RotoBaller
Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry was surprisingly shut down during last week's win over the Cleveland Browns. He couldn't find much success at all as he rushed 11 times for 23 yards on the ground. It's not often that fantasy managers see Henry actually get bottled up. The expectation is that Henry will go back to his elite ways on the ground in Week 3. He'll draw a strong matchup against the Detroit Lions defense on Monday night. Fantasy managers should forget about that Week 2 dud and lock-in Henry as an elite RB1 for this weekend.
From RotoBaller
Cincinnati Bengals running back Samaje Perine caught only two passes for six yards in the Week 1 win over the Browns. It's hard to play worse than that. However, that's exactly what happened in Week 2 versus Jacksonville, with Perine finishing without a blip in any statistical category. While the 30-year-old continues to serve as the backup to running back Chase Brown, he likely won't be given many opportunities to produce in the Week 3 meeting with the Minnesota Vikings, no matter if he logs more than the 20 snaps he had against the Jags. With Jake Browning under center in place of the injured Joe Burrow (toe), Perine's outlook remains the same. Keep him out of any fantasy lineup on Sunday.
From RotoBaller
Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba (illness) has been added to the injury report and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints, according to Seahawks PR. The Seahawks' WR1 has had a strong start, ranking second in the league in receiving yards with 227 on 17 receptions. He also leads the league with a 28% target share. If Smith-Njigba can't play, fantasy managers should see an increase in targets for veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp and rookie Tory Horton.
From RotoBaller
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins pulled in three of his four targets for 33 yards in the Week 1 win over the Browns. As expected, that performance didn't sit well with fantasy managers. In all fairness, the entire offense struggled in that one. While the wideout caught as many passes in Week 2 against Jacksonville, he totaled 56 yards. Even better, he scored a touchdown. Unfortunately, the Bengals will need to navigate their way forward without quarterback Joe Burrow (foot). In his place, Jake Browning will get the start. Naturally, many are concerned about how Burrow's absence will impact the offense. However, Higgins will need to piece together more than a few subpar showings with Browning under center before fantasy managers should consider benching him. For now, he's still a starting fantasy option, so managers in all formats can keep him rolling in Week 3 versus the Vikings.
